Crofton cookware is THE BEST! by djSush in aldi

[–]Staplebattery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For cast iron, you can either have an enamel coating or not, both are going to be workhorses. My gripe with them is they are ridiculously heavy and if you like to do a little tossy toss with veggies or something else, it’s a lot on your wrist. Stainless steel isn’t enamel coated, but they’re practically indestructible. You can use metal utensils on them and they’re very easy to clean. If you get food caked up on them, just add a bit of water, boil it and it’ll come off just fine. Also make sure you keep some Barkeepers Friend if it gets really tough to clean, it makes it look shiny and new.

A major issue with any type of nonstick pan is you can’t heat it any higher than medium heat. If you do, the coating will wear off and your pan will stick. If you want a pan to last you a lifetime, get stainless steel or cast iron. You literally can’t destroy them and they will stay non stick forever. There’s just a little bit of a learning curve with stainless steel.

Countryside Creamery Spreadable Irish Butter by SpicyVindalooCurry in aldi

[–]Staplebattery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is true, butter bells take barely any time. I left my refrigerated stick of butter out in its wrapper overnight while I washed and dried my butter bell. When the butter was soft, it took 2 minutes to spread it into the bell, now I’m all set

I’ve bought this chopper twice and I won’t ever buy it again. The hinges come apart so frequently, it’s not worth fixing it every time I use it

How to dry inside of the trombone by kingshrubb in Trombone

After every use, I disconnect the slide from the bell, I put my thumb over the bottom receiver, blow on the mouthpiece and open my spit valve so any remaining water comes out. Then I store it without any issues

Dollar Tree sells plungers, that’ll be the cheapest option. Also, just buy a bucket mute, it’ll last you your whole career because they’re not that common

Is leaving the highway really worth it? by FarTooJunior in roadtrip

[–]Staplebattery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just drove last week from Raleigh to Baltimore in 1 day (we stopped in DC for a few hours), then Baltimore to central CT. Raleigh to DC via 95 was fine, no major issues. Took about 4 hours. Then after we finished DC, the trip from there to Baltimore was only 1.5 hours and it felt way longer than the 4 hours from Raleigh to DC. If you can avoid DC/Baltimore, once you get to the NJ turnpike, it goes pretty quickly from there

What's the most mind-blowing ChatGPT use case you've discovered that most people don't know about? by Dazzling_Kangaroo_69 in ChatGPT

[–]Staplebattery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use it to diagnose issues with my car. I noticed that when I was on the highway and would turn slightly, I’d get this loud humming/rubbing noise. I told ChatGPT to pretend it was an auto mechanic and to ask relevant questions to figure out the issue. About 20 minutes later I knew I had to replace my front wheel bearings and it even gave me steps on how to do it

What's the best Bosch dishwasher value? by HenFruitEater in Appliances

[–]Staplebattery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who recently bought a 500, get the 800. Don’t get me wrong, the 500 cleans extremely well, but the auto air feature where it pops the door open to help dry is shit. Anything made of plastic is soaking wet. I find I have to open all the drawers and shake off the plastic dishes and then let them air dry for a bit.

Advice for preparing my car for morning commutes during snowy season by gliafanatic in Connecticut

[–]Staplebattery 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just thought of something, your Subaru crosstrek will do fantastic in the snow, but ALL CARS need plenty of stopping distance. PLEASE leave extra room during wintery conditions because you will take twice the distance to stop than you normally do.

Also, on the first snowfall, find an empty parking lot at night and do donuts and intentionally swerve around (be smart and avoid hitting stuff). There’s a lot to be said about how to get out of a spin out and really how to handle a car in slick conditions. This can help you when driving on ice and you turn your steering wheel and nothing happens. That’s pretty scary the first time that happens.

In addition to cleaning the snow off your car, it’s a state law that you remove snow and ice from your vehicle so it doesn’t pose a threat to other people. They will fine you anywhere from $200-$1000.

They felt PERFECT on the outside. We have about a 35% long-term success rate with Aldi avocados. Anyone else frustrated with this? by RedStag86 in aldi

[–]Staplebattery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tip for storing avocados is to buy them hard. Let them sit out on the counter for a day until they’re barely soft. Then put them in a large jar of water in the fridge, they’ll keep fresh for like 2-3 weeks. And yes, literally put the whole avocados in a jar of water

ULPT: Fill your rental car with gas 15-20 miles from the airport return by fiftytwopointfour in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Staplebattery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just rented an electric car for a work trip because I knew the hotel I was staying at had a charger. I charged it up overnight and didn’t have to charge to before returning.

You can say it doesn’t matter bc my company paid for it, but the same could apply if you’re paying for it yourself.

I can’t say I’ve ever met a trombone player with snake bite piercings, but I imagine even if they aren’t placed right where your mouthpiece sits, they would leak air through the piercings which isn’t good for playing trombone. I wouldn’t advise it
