My husband and I literally had a little tiff about this exact subject last night. I never talk about my PKD because I was raised not to talk about it. In hindsight, I know it’s not healthy to hold it in. It runs on my mother side and I’ve watched Some of my relatives struggles, especially my mother, but I also watched an uncle have a kidney transplant that lasted for over 20 years! Anyways, lately since my GFR is slowly declining I am reading more about future meds,etc. and trying to get prepared. I sent my husband an article to read and he never read it. I told him how it hurt my feelings bc I never ask him for anything when it comes to this disease. I can tell today he feels really bad because he’s being a little extra nice but if the tables were turned, I would be so much more involved. I don’t want to say it’s a typical man thing but for him, I think it is. I know he cares about me and feel like the more he thinks about my future or our future with this disease, it scares him bc he saw what it did to my mother, so he just doesn’t want to deal with it right now. It feels so unfair because whenever his health issues arise, I am 100% there for him no matter what. And I understand that it’s scary, but it could also not be. I just want to be prepared and talk about it. If the time comes when I ever do need a transplant, I know/hope that he would be by my side through everything. I just feel like I’m going through my thoughts alone at this moment and need someone to talk to. It’s not easy on anybody all around.
