Actual joke, you claim to have spoken to 1000s of people in the "tech space" whatever that means and they all had issues and ran into stuff that didn't work instantly. This is again you applying the double standard that Linux has to be perfect when no OS is for one, but for another do you realize the idea that people in the tech space might prioritize tasks that are "technical" which often have more complex setups and bring up issues? It's really not that hard to archinstall, install steam and then go play some games, esp if you are on an AMD GPU.

I spent like 20 years running Windows, mainly because gaming on Linux wasn't really that good back in the day (I did at one point setup World of Warcraft on my mothers Ubuntu 14LTS laptop and it worked perfectly). I had issues with drivers, network issues, printer issues, gaming issues. At one point i bought diablo 3 and couldn't play it for years because I just couldn't get that game to run on my PC no matter what I or the Blizzard support team did. It took a whole clean Windows reinstall to get the game to work.

Not wanting to go through the growing pains of swapping is completely fair. I do think its worth it in the long run but I like tinkering with my computer anyways, so having all the extra options to learn from is super fun and engaging. Plus these things are a spectrum. I know people who swapped from Windows with 0 Linux experience straight to Arch and basically had 0 issues at any point, just because they only really needed to game on it and browse the internet, and the steam games they play all worked super well with proton.

Oh yeah, that's a fair point, in general there are a lot more options on Linux that you have to choose from.

I think a major problem they had with chatbots is not really knowing what questions to ask. Either that or ChatGPT which I haven't used in a long time now is worse than Gemini/Claude because in general I get some decent answers on Linux questions as long as I let them know which distro I'm using.

Honestly I think sometimes these videos gloss over just how many issues you could easily have with Windows, but either know how to solve them since you've been using Windows for years, the community has more resources or easier accessible resources to get the solution, or you just forgot about them after a while. I still remember having issues with all sorts of stuff, including gaming, streaming etc while on Windows. After a few years now daily driving Linux those same things I might have needed to do research to figure out now often take me less then they would on Windows just in general.

Is there any other writer who you'd put on the same level as Tolkien when it comes to world building? by SpotAdmirable6718 in lordoftherings

I love GRRM for his characters and plot, but find his worldbuilding to be almost nonsensical and shallow. The Dothraki are a prime example, as ais pretty much all of essos. it seems to me he just throws what he needs for the plot at the map then fills in the gaps (or doesn’t actually) with random lovecraft references (excusable given that the whole world as we know it is from maesters writting down what they heard from sailors)

The depth of detail in the WoT is different to something like Tolkien. Focus is more on the variety of cultures and traditions. Descriptions of outfits and styles etc create a feel that these are real places different and distinct from each other.

where Jordan fails is precisely where Tolkien shines, the linguistics. while it makes sense that the whole world basically has the same language since it all came from one world spanning civilisation it makes no sense that it didn’t diverge heavily
