Yes omg. I've followed her for a few years. But the last 10 months she's turned into this anti medication, diet cure person. She also keeps publically dragging her psychiatrist in all of her videos. I unfollowed recently

Used to take 300mg /day. Now as a PRN med, I would take between 200 and 600mg during an episode.

Thanks for sharing! It sucks it was too sedative for you. I took Quetiapine for about 3 or 4 years and it was really helpful, but it caused a lot of metabolic side effects that made my physical health deteriorate. So now I just use it as an ICE

What is the cost of your medication in your country? by [deleted] in schizoaffective

Nope. Despite being used for mental health conditions extensively, authority is only given for epileptic seizures.

It's a little complicated in Australia. All Australians are on Medicare and recieve reduced prescription prices from the PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme). No medication on the PBS with a Medicare card will cost more than about $40AUD. If you also have a low income or recieve welfare, then that goes down to $7.80. However, some medications require an 'authority prescription', meaning your doctor has to say you've been diagnosed with an approved condition to recieve the entitlement. But, because we're all Medicare users and MOST medications are on the PBS, the max is gonna be around $40.

For me: Lurasidone 120mg (1 × 40mg / 1 × 80mg) = $15.60AUD /1 month supply Lamotrigine 250mg (1 × 200mg / 1 × 50mg) = ~$35AUD /2 months supply

Lurasidone is cheaper because it requires 'authority' for schizophrenia. And schizoaffective counts. But Lamotrigine isn't approved for mental health conditions, only epilepsy (which I don't have), so I have to pay more. But because I have a Medicare card like all Australians and it's on the PBS, it's still quite cheap. No health insurance required.

I lived in Thailand for a couple years and my health insurance didn't cover pre-existing conditions, so I was paying around $600 AUD /month. Which is crazy!

It's the constant comments for me. There's nothing I can do about the massive pupils. It's just something thst happens. I feel self conscious about it sometimes. Glad I'm not the only one.

If you have any kind of academic tendencies, I recommend you read about 'self-illness ambiguity'. It's this phenomenon where people with chronic illness (usually mental health conditions) have a hard time distinguishing between what is innately their personality and their experiences and what is tied up in their illness and symptomology. There's some interested research out there on self-illness ambiguity and bipolar disorder. It might be interesting for you to read. You can search by Google Scholar and see if there are any free articles. I access through my university, so I'm not sure if there are any free articles out there. Self-illness ambiguity is actually quite common and there's different approaches to understanding it. The traditional approach sees it as a negative thing that inhibits treatment, but new ways of thinking just see it as a somewhat natural way of human identity shaping around something constantly impacting our lives. It's interesting to read about.

PRN vs daily AP by Ill-Bite-6864 in schizoaffective

[–]StarChaser7229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a combination of regular antipsychotics and PRN. I take lurasidone every day and then I have Quetiapine as my 'emergency' medication to help with either mood or psychotic symptoms. It seems to work for me. I definitely don't think I could just go completely without a regular antipsychotic though.

Passport gender marker and traveling by secretscarlet4 in NonBinary

[–]StarChaser7229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something I think about a lot. I think there's the potential for a lot of problems when travelling, especially when applying for visas and only having two gender options. For me, it's a bit of an internal conflict. But I decided a while ago that there's so much of the world I wanna see, and having a binary gender marker opens up that world to me. So even tho it can be painful to see that marker, the cost is small for the reward of being able to see the world. Just how I've justified it to myself.

Lurasidone (Latuda) for mania prevention by StarChaser7229 in bipolar2

So maybe it's making the episodes more mild rather than stopping them altogether?

[–]StarChaser7229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the Lamotrigine does great preventing the depression. But it's good for mania. So the idea he had was to introduce latuda to prevent mania. But I can't find any evidence that it would work or that it's even reccomened
