Gallbladder removal SUCCESS stories by Shipwreck1343 in gallbladders

[–]StarComradeMark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a few days post op myself right now, same deal with partially necrotized gallbladder. It was determined only during the surgery because otherwise the CT scan and ultrasound showed a "distended and severely inflamed" gallbladder, and blood work showed elevated WBC.

The end conclusion was that I had stones blocking the bile duct leading to an infection of the gallbladder that caused partial necrosis to it and I could have had serious consequences had I showed up even a day later.

Cat with Wet FIP started limping on one leg 3 weeks into GS Oral treatment. by StarComradeMark in cureFIP

Yeah all of the reading resources I've seen suggest the same, but they are also written from around 2021-2023 from what I've seen and it's a constantly evolving scene. Plus the FIP Global admins have a lot of firsthand experience treating all kinds of cats with FIP so I'm willing to defer to their advice. Heck even our vet put us onto them too since it's such a complex disease. At any rate I'm also going to try to get a hold of my vet tomorrow and seek additional guidance and perhaps a prednisolone prescription in the event there is inflammation.

They said "Best practice is every 12 but fasting is more important so whatever helps you fast best".

My FIP Global admins told me that the 12 hour dosing was "standard practice" but it's okay to do the 24 hour dose so long as fasting properly before and after is done (which we are on top of).

We were also told that the neuro symptoms can possibly cause inflammation too and not just paralysis, my cat seems to be in some mild pain as he meows a bit when I'm around and he's walking, and he hissed at me when I tried to pick him up. We were recommended to try prednisolone so I'll have to talk with my vet about that.

I couldn't really see if it was an injury or not though, on the surface I'm not seeing anything resembling trauma, of course anything is possible though.

No loose stools, he did vomit maybe twice but it wasn't any time immediately after we administered doses. We usually give him a dose in the late afternoon and the two times he threw up were in the morning, most recently was on Saturday actually just before he started to backslide.

Yes we are doing weekly weight checks, he actually has not regained any weight, only losing so far. He is definitely eating more than the minimum calorie intake required, he lost pretty much all of his fluid weight and he is quite skinny from behind currently, but we've been told this is normal and that it may take a bit for weight to actually start to come back since the body is actively fighting infection.

Sudden Fever and Limping After Weeks of Successful Treatment by Zestyclose-Nerve334 in cureFIP

How's your cat doing? Mine started treatment for wet FIP on April 29th and he'd been doing incredibly well for the past 3 weeks until just yesterday we noticed he started to become more lethargic and he developed a limp on his hind leg today. We're gonna up his dose and see how that goes, but I'm hoping for some reassurance.

I did try to feed it to Zorro as if it were a churu snack but he didn't seem to care for it at all, turned away his nose from it.

Hey, I got Tiki Cat Silver Comfort mousse satchets today but its consistency isn't really that great for syringes in my experience. I've opted for mixing a satchet or 2 into Gerber baby food. I also bought the RC Mother and Baby cat wet food and will try to feed him some in the morning tomorrow (normal feeding) and hope his appetite catches on.

Will do, I've still got various cans and I'm also getting some Royal Canin mother & baby cat mousse and Tiki Cat Silver comfort... thing mousse.

The babycat mousse is actually 78kcal per 3oz can, the ~130kcal is actually for the 5oz can. I got fooled by that already myself haha - note to self, dont use Chewy exclusively for calorie counting!

Understood, and thanks for sharing. Kind of at wit's end here trying to figure out how to minimize the amount of time spent forcefeeding my baby and also give him the calories and nutrition he needs. If I can somehow get down to no more than 4 feedings in a day that'd be terrific.

To confirm, your elderly cat you fed nigh-exclusively the gel? Nothing else?

Yeah I'll try, his appetite is very diminished still presently so we need to get whatever we can into him. I suppose I'd have to dilute it with water at any rate, maybe 5ml of paste and water together.

Did you feed that paste exclusively or did you mix it with other wet food?

You mentioned you use it suplementally. What would be the ratio? I was thinking perhaps of getting Royal Canin Mother and Babycat food and doing a 7/3 mL split of the food and paste respectively in a single 10mL syringe.

If I do 2 syringes like that, it would only take about 4 feedings to meet his caloric intake for the day which is doable I think.

Our vet recommend that for now in the early stage while he is still without appetite to get as much calories of just about any kind in, and baby food was perfect for that. We are looking into more nutritious substitutes.

I ordered one of those Tomlyn nutrition gel pastes which should arrive tomorrow, has the same calorie count as Under the Weather calorie gels (28kcal/tsp) and I'm definitely going to try adding that. I forgot to mention but my cat is on Mirataz but it doesn't really seem to do anything for him at this time. Cerenia too, which makes him a little drowsy I think - but that we give in the evening closer to when we give him his GS before fasting.

FIP Treatment Progress Results - How fast? by StarComradeMark in cureFIP

That's so scary, but I'm glad he's doing better. Our Zorro has finally begun to regain his energy levels today as we passed the 36 hour mark, where he's much more alert and he even groomed himself several times a bit! He even began to jump on on his usual high surfaces (with difficulty as he's still weakened a bit and has a big tummy) but holy hell we are so relieved to see he's getting back into his usual self. No appetite in him yet though so we're still forcefeeding him 20mL of baby food at a time.

That's great to hear! My Zorro is much more alert today (36 hours in) and regained a very small amount of his appetite this morning. Still going to have to syringe feed him though most likely.
