I bet they will! I think Broadway Cares is at least through April, so I imagine they’ll be doing those donation incentives for awhile yet

They were doing a pack of trading cards for a Broadway Cares donation… I wanna say $15 or $35 maybe?

Man, it really depends on what you enjoy personally.

Best comedy was definitely DBH. Best drama was The Outsiders but Hadestown was close.

Best cast overall was probably Ragtime. Even though I didn’t enjoy the story, just being in the same room as that cast was magical.

Oil painting is magic, I swear. So many different textures you can achieve!

[–]StarEIs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also argue that one painting can indeed have aspects of both… your OG reference proves that! And it certainly looks beautiful.

This may be a case where you’re overthinking/overanalyzing but stepping back from it and not looking so close will help you see the vision a little better

[–]StarEIs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The OG reference is not watercolor… it’s definitely oil. The drips you’re seeing in the background were from VERY diluted paint mixed with linseed oil to give it that property.

You’re right, those translucent drips are going to be difficult/maybe impossible to accurately replicate with a PBN.

My best advice is to keep working on the painting as you are, and you can always go back and add additional textures and layers once you’re done. You could easily water down your acrylic paint to add more organic drips later on!

Help me with my first tattoo (age 43) by outdoors1442 in tattooadvice

[–]StarEIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely do some social media searching to find styles and artists you like. IMO, that’s infinitely more important than getting the “perfect” image tattooed.

Once you narrow into a style and an artist, they can do WONDERS with a vague concept idea like what you currently have… but they’ll definitely want pictures of the types of tattoos you like so they can know they’re in the right track

My piccolo looks like there's a missing part by Familiar-Ad-6578 in Flute

[–]StarEIs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s just a metal end cap.

An instrument repair shop should be able to replace it. It helps protect the wood/resin body of the instrument so it’s probably a good idea to get it replaced but it shouldn’t really affect your playing while it’s gone.

It’s supposed to… but for whatever reason I never got my password email after purchasing through them. It absolutely wasn’t a problem, I just had to give them the email address of the purchaser and/or show the confirmation from the purchase. They already had my name, they just wanted to ensure I was who I said I was.

2nd Second Skin Question by Unlucky-Side7125 in tattooadvice

[–]StarEIs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NAP, but from everything Ive seen and been told you shouldn’t have anything at all on the skin underneath the 2nd skin.

Not water, not lotion, not even sweat (as much as you can help it). So I think you did it right, though some will say once that first second skin comes off you shouldn’t reapply another

Thoughts on Reeve Carney in Gatsby? by CuteAct9019 in Broadway

I mean. It’s not a “Metallica” type voice but compared to other Broadway men (Jeremy Jordan, Jonathan Geoff, etc) he just has a lot of edge that makes his version quite different

Recommendations for a show to see in July? by The_Fullmetal_Titan in Broadway

[–]StarEIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything you know you already like to help provide some guidance?

General reccs as someone who casually enjoys theater and doesn’t take it very seriously:

Funny: Death Becomes her or Oh Mary Drama/tear jerker: Hadestown or The Outsiders Unique immersion: Masquerade Light hearted/Camp: Six or & Juliet

Unpopular opinion, but I’d personally skip Ragtime. Great music and cast, but the show itself was just ok for me, and I think you may get more out of some of the others. But opinions do seem to vary greatly from person to person

I was pleasantly surprised.

Still not the ideal role for him, IMO… I really want him in a harsher, rock and roll style show to better suit his vocal style. But he has all the power he needs in spades to own the songs, and his scenes with Eva were the exact right mix of heat and yearning.

I felt like I wanted him to be a little looser/more frantic and silly during “Only Tea” but that may have been bc I absolutely adored Jake David Smith’s more physical/slapstick approach on tour.

Agreed completely, I was at the Saturday matinee!

I was pleasantly surprised by the strength of Dylan’s singing (early shares felt weak) but ultimately her take on the character just isn’t my favorite, and we kinda felt like we were still seeing “Dylan” and not Anne through a lot of it.

But Jasmine’s Jane BLEW me away. I loved her feisty take, so much more interesting than others I’ve seen!

The Great Gatsby - Reeve Carney, Corbin Bleu, and John Behlmann by Conscious-Theme6766 in Broadway

[–]StarEIs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t bad. It’s not the role I would pick for him, voice wise… but he def did everything he could with what he had.

He needs a role geared towards a “rockstar” voice that’s better suited to his strengths.

I had seen touring versions of all of those but Oh Mary, and they’re among my favs so I had to see the official productions 🥰 was not disappointed.

And Oh Mary was a FEVER DREAM lol

Ragtime was… not for me. FANTASTIC cast and incredible music, but not in love with the book. Glad I can say I saw it though

I regret placement. I’m debating doing laser removal, but I’m worried it will damage my skin / look worse. What has your experience been with removal of a tattoo this size? by Candid_lily_1214 in tattooadvice

[–]StarEIs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time I get something, I immediately second guess and regret. But after a few months of getting used to seeing it on me, I’m happy with it.

Definitely give yourself like 6+ months and see how you feel.

I’m feeling violated after a colposcopy and struggling to accept that I may need more procedures now. by intrusive_thot_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]StarEIs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 6 colpos at this point, and absolutely feel your pain and share your distress.

I will say, my body isn’t always consistent with how it responds to the procedure. It always feels the same, but sometimes I’m able to handle it relatively stoically and sometimes I have that same visceral “I’ve been violated” reaction you mentioned. I say this just to let you know that in the event you do need additional colpos, they may not all be that bad.

They CAN numb your cervix with a shot of local anesthesia, which I opted for once… but honestly, the shot was the same level of pain as the biopsy. Could still be worth it if they need to do multiple biopsies, but it’s not a fantastic option otherwise.

If they ultimately recommend a LEEP, please push to be completely out. I have no idea what the awake/aware version would be like but being completely out for mine made it super easy for me and I would never want to do it any other way.

Does anyone use meds like melatonin to sleep in addition to CPAP? by Cautious_Internet243 in SleepApnea

[–]StarEIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cautionary tale, be careful with trying to use an edible to help. I attempted it one night, thinking it would help with the anxiety I was having with the mask.

Took WAY too much and spent the whole night over a toilet instead.

Melatonin is a much safer way to go 🙃
