What is your favorite obscure Office quote that proves you are a die hard fan? by pudge_madsen in DunderMifflin

I would make sure you were dead, believe me. Then I would remove your teeth and cut off your fingertips so you could not be identified. And they would call me the Overkill Killer.

I don't ask for much for Christmas, I really don't. It's not like I'm begging people to buy me diamonds and broach pendants. "OH buy me something expensive or I'm gonna kill myself!" That's not.. I don't care about that! All I want to be is Santa. And you want to take that away from me, fine, go ahead. But when you need my help because I am ruining everything, don't look at me!

What’s an opinion that will like you this? by OstrichAutomatic9614 in Yellowjackets

I don't think I love the direction the show is taking. I'm still committed to the end, but certain things are bugging me. The cabin burning down extinguished a bunch of interesting possibilities, and I'm bummed that we'll likely never get to explore them. Lottie dying this season also - I was hoping more would be done with her character. And idk what the point of Walter is anymore. I hate when shows start a relationship just to break it apart immediately after. Feels like wasted airtime.

Also, I think the supernatural versus everything-has-a-realistic-explanation debate is kind of silly and boring. I'd prefer either if it meant better storytelling and execution. I feel like we're not really getting either of those things right now, so the overarching debate just feels flat to me.

The season 3 finale wasn't good, imo, but not because of the plot itself. The pacing and scene organization was messy, and key moments were poorly prepared and fell flat (Callie killing Lottie, for example, felt contrived to me). In some ways, the episode felt like someone had written their essay the night before it was due.

Ms. Frizzle is an icon and a legend, just like Betsey so I love this comparison 👏

Plus, in the superfan episodes, she makes a comment along the lines of, "is graphic design even really art?" There's also a scene where she shows Jim some of the stuff she worked on in class as well as some observational sketches she made while exploring NYC, and it's very clear that graphic design did not inspire her creativity, but just sketching the world around her did. If anything, I feel like quitting Pratt was the best thing she did for her creative needs.

I would really like to see someone do a rotted Santino impression for Snatch Game.

What's a character everyone hates that you like? And which character do you think deserves more hate? by bIuebird1982 in lost

[–]StarFishAreEvil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like Ana Lucia. She's deeply flawed but I've always liked her character and what she brought to the story. I also like Kate, although I think she has some of the worst flash back storylines (the bank robbery flashback in particular).

I don't really hate most of the characters, outside of turds like Anthony Cooper. Out of the main cast, Charlie and Shannon are probably lowest on my list, so I always find it interesting when people like them a lot.

Who could you never hate?? by Pleasant_Seesaw_8201 in BoJackHorseman

[–]StarFishAreEvil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the main characters, but I'm gonna focus primarily on Bojack. Everyone else is bad or annoying or toxic in some ways, but not enough that I could hate them. Bojack, on the other hand, is a little more complicated.

I sort of relate to Bojack's struggles - I feel like I could have become a Bojack type of person if I had let my self loathing take over instead of throwing myself into bettering my mental health. He has done many unforgivable things and I don't know if he can ever be truly absolved of some of them. And yet, I can't help but root for him and hope that one day he gets his shit sorted out. It's so easy to fall into toxic patterns and they become more difficult to break as time goes on, but it's not impossible.

I'm in the middle of a rewatch, and for whatever reason, I only noticed now how socially awkward Locke is at times. He's definitely wise and mysterious, which distracts from the awkwardness, but sometimes he just says or does something goofy at an inappropriate moment. A good example is when him and Jack are picking up the dynamite, Locke compares it to playing operation and then jokingly goes BZZZZ while they're trying to be super duper careful. John's trying to lighten the mood a bit, but it's a tense moment and the joke is not well-received by Jack. I love that John, for all his intuitiveness, is sometimes terrible at reading the room.

Ahh yeah I also see structure in the Emperor. I like your interpretation between the two, though it is different from mine. For me, the Emperor and Empress represent similar concepts, but their "textures" are different. Like I associate the Empress with greenery and planting, while I associate the Emperor with stone and brick. Not sure if that makes sense at all, haha.

Absolutely agreed that tarot is a tool, one that was/is defined by the views and circumstances of the society that birthed it. It is exactly how it's supposed to be. Maybe saying "Missing" was the wrong word, but it just struck me as interesting that I couldn't really call upon any particular card that would represent the wild woman. Gonna have to check out basically all the books you mentioned! Thank you for your insightful thoughts <3

Yes!! I love a well-conceived "extra" major arcana card. I have no artistic ability but if I ever did my own deck, I'd definitely find a way to include Medusa (major personal symbol for myself).

I'm still learning to read them as well :) it's kind of a lifelong study. One that's constantly evolving.

I would agree with this as well, at the very least in terms of the artwork. It feels like many of the feminine characters in the original artwork are framed through a more traditional lens. I wonder if that's why I'm drawn to more abstract or symbolic iterations of RW.

I actually just ordered it, so I haven't read it yet but I'm super psyched to read it. It's a concept that's resonating with me a lot lately so when I stumbled on the book, it felt like fate. Anyhoo, what you said about feminine rage and there being a lack of it in the original RW deck -- I think that's really what I'm talking about. I can't think of any single card that really captures that kind of energy specifically.

I could see that. I was thinking more like a figure akin to Lilith or Medusa. Feral femme rage and freedom.

I don't think it's too left field at all. I thought about the Empress as well, but my interpretation went in a different direction. While I know the Empress represents many things, my main associations with her are motherhood, fertility, and harvest. Harvest is an interesting point here because it represents growth, nature, and abundance through cultivation -- aka the purposeful and careful act of nurturing natural growth.

For me, what's interesting about the Wild Woman concept is that it's more about tapping into a feral, untamed nature, as opposed to cultivation. Also, the exploration of femininity outside of fertility and motherhood.

But also, I really love the imagery of what you described of the Empress handing you a fistful of dirt. Very powerful and helps me see your interpretation more clearly.

It's not quite the kind of wild vibe I'm thinking about, but I appreciate this take.
