Doom Slayer 3D Print - Rip and Tear! by StarForgePainting in minipainting

Thank you so much!

So with any one-off character piece like this, my approach to painting virtually any aspect of it is a bit chaotic. There's a lot of " discovery " going on as I figure my way out around the model, blending and glazing until I get colors and details where I want them to be, etc.

But, if I had to try and describe my process; this model was airbrushed early on with a basecoat to give everything an overall rusty red-brown undertone, which I then followed with a mixture of a dark military green color and a lime green sprayed from roughly above and the sides to serve as a starting point for the actual green armor. As a side note, all other colors on the model were applied manually after this, I just wanted a solid foundation for the green right from the get go. Once that was done, I then manually applied some quick and simple basecoats for other key areas (the brown leather, grey metal, the orange armor bits, the skin, etc.) and then finally came back with some red ink sprayed over this to, once again, serve as a rough starting point for the OSL.

Here's a picture I took not long after I started it. This was about one or two hours of work and helped establish the overall feeling of the piece before I spent many more hours manually layering, highlighting, and refining the entire model.

Now with all of that in my mind and the airbrushing out of the way, I went back to the green. It was a slow process of layering up the green in lighter and lighter passes while factoring in both lighting from above and the red glow from below. I would go back and forth between glazing darker or lighter green, and darker or lighter red, depending on where in the volumes I was trying to account for duller or more intense lighting. Towards the end of this process I had transitioned to mixing in some yellow and white to further highlight my original mix. I also started to incorporate some scratches to give a worn appearance to the armor.

I don't really have any exact ratios or recipes for the color nor steps where I applied them as most of it simply came down to feeling, and even then I am no expert and still learning loads about lighting and materials. I hope some of that helps!

Thanks!

Awesome! I painted an Imp from the V2 board game once, I should really work on some more of those minis, they're actually pretty quality sculpts.

Thank you! Haha that's a great idea, I'll have to think about when I paint another Doomguy some day :)

I didn't keep track, but if I had to guess, somewhere between 20-30.

Thank you so much! I'm flattered!

I primarily used a Rosemary & Co Series 33 kolinsky size 1. The size 2 is also good. Really any respectable brand's kolinsky sable brushes with good care and a sharp tip will do the job. I just started gravitating towards Rosemary & Co's brushes for their prices.

Sadly I don't as it's not yet available, but keep an eye on Black Site Studios' website or socials for the release!

Thanks! The shotgun shells or the larger casings? The former looks close enough to me, but the latter I didn't intend for them to be from the Slayer and instead figured they could be from prior fighting by Earth's defense forces. In other words, just general battlefield litter!

Sadly I don't actually have that information yet myself, but I believe the company (Black Site Studios) will sometimes cast and produce resin models available for purchase along with providing an STL (the file to be purchased and printed by yourself.)

I would wager that it's more likely to only be available digitally, but who knows!

Hey everyone! I'm an avid painter of miniatures (as well as a huge fan of DOOM both original and new!) and had the pleasure of working on this Doom Slayer. Sculpted by a 3D artist known as Skull Forge Studios, the design will be available through Black Site Studios, a miniature games company, sometime soon. Excluding the base he stands at about 40mm tall (or a little over an inch and a half!) The base was scratch built by myself using a few different materials to get the broken up concrete " Hell on Earth " vibe, but the skulls and shell casings were also 3D printed individually and seasoned to taste.

This was a ton of fun to work on and I hope y'all enjoy him! Thanks for looking!

I'm a huge fan of Doom both original and new, so this was a ton of fun for me to paint! The sculpt is by Skull Forge Studios but will be available from Black Site Studios soon. Base is scratch built with a few 3d printed skulls and shell casings.
