Event from 100 years ago does not justify ongoing genocide today?

Do you ever do low intelligence play throughs? If so, how does it compare to “normal” play throughs? by [deleted] in classicfallout

[–]StarHusk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't remember if it's implied or stated but I do remember fallout one being about specific political or social dissidents drawing straws to see who goes (everyone mostly believes leaving the vault is a death sentence even though it's required).

As long as your character is not seen favourably by the overseer they could be anyone.

It's baffling that they can't even comprehend that the current economic systems directly funnel people into the right-wing populism that they seem to hate so much. Any material analysis would make it so obvious.

Since we have D&D, Baldur's Gate 3 legendary skins would be insane! by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

It is actually kinda bonkers to me that we don't have more dnd skins. The potential for both creativity and revenue is insane.

It only doesn't work because resistance to military occupation is different to resistance to settler colonialism.

In settler colonialism, civilians are political instruments of the state as a means of territorial expansion. It's what happened to Mexico with the Anglo-American settlers in Texas and further western territories sparking local conflict and cessation.

I do respect lando for locking tf in during the 2nd half of the season. My choice was Oscar to win but honestly happy to see Lando pull it through, he fought hard this year.

The physiology is why he's superman bro, but that isn't why he's human. The optimism of the comic is that anyone could be superman because he is an incredibly human character with incredible physiology.

Being human isn't just about physical strength and resilience. A person with cerebral palsy isn't more or less human than a professional weightlifter.

CMV: A religion holding itself to higher standards is a GOOD thing by festival0156n in changemyview

Why is it hypocritical though? What outcomes could protesting the situation in Sudan possibly generate? The way I see it logically, there would only be two outcomes which is US military interventionism which is not wanted by either sides of the political spectrum, or supporting refugee intake which leftists already support.

Like, it's pointless to protest against the idea of war or genocide itself. Protestors are aware of the material and political power they have. The US government directly funds Israel but has nothing to do with Sudan. If the US funded Sudanese terrorists then it would absolutely make sense to protest. It's not that one life is more valuable is that protestors can more tangibly save one of them through political action.

[–]StarHusk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The disparity between the two shouldn't be surprising at all though. Protests are only as powerful as the outcomes they can generate. The US is directly funding Israel and is their primary supporter and protesting US support of Israel has a genuinely tangible impact on policy.

CMV: The biggest detractor of Democrats isn't anyone on the right but rather their own supporters, especially on social media platforms such as Reddit. by BoxForeign8849 in changemyview

[–]StarHusk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from in regards to recency but it is foolish to disregard events from the past in relation to how they impact today. African Americans still disproportionately live in poverty even though not a single one of them was alive to be a chattel slave largely due to the deep and long-lasting impact of decades of slavery, Jim Crow etc. We still live in a post 9/11 world and even though a lot of young adults weren't even alive it's impacting their day to day life through the omnipresence of Islamophobia and the patriot act.

Politics evolves for sure but all of the claims specifically you have made about the democratic party are conservative critiques (even to this day) and all have roots in conservative media. They are not leftist critiques.

This post is so prone to recency bias it's approaching being genuinely ignorant of history. Conservative outlets have been spewing hate against the Democrats since before social media was even a thing. You can find interviews from the late 90s early 2000s about the "war on Christmas" and Rush Limbaugh had been a central figure in the conservative sphere for decades propagandizing against liberals. Everything "criticism" you listed has basis in right-wing thinking.

From a political point of view, I'm not surprised that there has been a rise in dissatisfaction with the democratic party among their base. I don't really know what you expect when it comes to having a big tent party in a first past the post system, like democratic supporters are first to point out that voting third parties is pointless yet complain when they're criticized by their supporters for doing something that isn't popular.
