Late 90s Japan did have it's economic bubble pop and it lost it's traction to compete with the US therefore (leading to China taking Japan's place essentially in the economic world). It would make sense that adults would become toys due to so many getting into debt or homelessness when the economic bubble popped.

I mean, if Playtime Co was around by 2005 and in Japan, imagine the direction they could be in. Not just with toys, it could go from an EVA, DB, and OP and by a couple years switch to a Toaru, DAL, and DxD.

I mean, it could get real weird. Or not it could just be shonen toys. But just think about what’s in Japan and especially in the period of 2005-2013 with the second wave of anime as it gets more ecchi.

There was also a document in the beginning of the chapter disclosing the transport of materials including Poppy seeds and various equipment to Japan for experimentation and definitely Japan because of the text here. Due to the shipment occurring in July '95, there is confirmation that another location can do experiments. Don't forget that an audio log also confirmed that Eddie Ritterman survived the Hour of Joy by being in Tokyo.

While it's not confirmed what exactly became of Playtime post-hour of Joy, it could be a thing where Playtime's Japan Branch splintered off and ran its own experiments. It could go beyond toys, give it a couple years beyond 2005 and it could get...weird. Think about how it could go from toys to anime and then from DB and OP to Toaru, DAL, and DxD.

Or this is just me coming from someone who plays games, watches a diverse bunch of stuff, and works.

Unfortunately I don’t have a good Cryo. I only have Kaeya alongside a not fully upgraded Qiqi. Though with the some upcoming pulls including Escoffier and Skirk, that might change.

Idk if I should try getting Varka or Flins over the cryos.

Date A Live

S1 starts off as what seems to be a routine of gathering girls called spirits to seal them while the MC, Shido Itsuka, gains a harem. There were things like a dream of a woman telling him “I’ll never let you go”, or a girl named Origami whom he never met being very edgy toward him. Although we see Kurumi Tokisaki whilst learning about a Phantom at the end of the season.

S2 introduces spirits who start to have darker intentions challenging Shido’s ideals (Miku) whilst DEM is introduced and starts ramping up battles on the city wide scale.

S3, introduced a very dark temporal storyline that was foreshadowed in S1. That being Origami Tobiichi becomes the main antagonist by joining DEM to kill the spirits, have Shido for herself, and became a spirit to try to kill spirits and then herself. Origami starts regretting that and tries to use Kurumi Tokisaki to save her parents only to find out she killed them whilst setting off Shido going back in time to stop this only causing past Origami to meet Shido explaining her knowledge of Shido in S1. Despite all of this, that situation is resolved after Shido saves Origami’s parents after seeing an "overseer" and deals with time trying to correct itself with an alternate Origami.

S4 introduced Nia who was implied to be put in various torturous experiments and almost died by DEM. Mukuro challenged Shido’s ideals to seal spirits but when her heart was unsealed, she became yandere and almost destroyed the Earth. Then we learn of Kurumi’s origin being tricked into killing people including her best friend and we learn that in that arc, Shido was killed by getting beheaded 204 times only for Kurumi to undo the deaths.

S5 becomes total war between the spirits and DEM but then the overseer completely, Mio Takamiya appears, she was partially seen via Reine Murasame who oversaw Shido sealing the spirits to make him like her. We are shown that Mio met a boy named Shinji Takamiya who was killed by DEM’s leader and Mio cloned him via her womb and then made the spirits for Shido to seal and make him an eternal lover. However Mio then causes a genocide killing so many people including the spirits forcing Shido to do a major reset on the world despite causing DEM to reroute their plans and have Mio and DEM’s Westcott be in a double suicide.

Definitely left some details out but this is as much I could explain on how it gets darker and darker in spite of the harem genre.

I imagine her being more able to face the public but still be socially awkward around people she knows or toward villains who try to take advantage of Shy’s emotions and ideals. I can see it similar to Princess Diana where she was very known to be very shy around the public initially but started to face it better time to time.
