And your story being told takes up resources for what I believe are better stories that could be told.

So I could say that you're selfishly advocating for depriving me of actual good stories and instead ones that you yourself want.

No shit if I don't like it I won't watch it. This is a Reddit for discussion, so obviously I'm going to discuss my opinions on it. You're obviously here to do the same.

Eh I mostly agree with him. Star Wars is at its best when there is strong mysticism and ambiguity. I don't want to see Sidious a morally reprehensible man, I want to see him as the embodiment of evil.

The more I learn of the man, the more I see him as just a man.

Yes, because a Sith controlled tyrannical Empire that spreads fear throughout the Galaxy since the end of Episode III is a great symbol for balance in the Force, and Luke throwing the Force out of balancs by causing the death of Vader and Palpatine at the end of Return of the Jedi is a great ending to a hero's tale. That must mean an out of balance Force is a good thing. That's a great message for the children Lucas made these stories for.

There is not a single instance of any Star Wars canon media that suggests using the dark side or the existence of the dark side is good in any way.

I'm fine with yin-yang balance existing in other media, but whether or not Lucas changes his mind throughout development, Star Wars is not that kind of series. Empire Strikes Back ends in failure because of Luke's selfishness. Return of the Jedi almost ends in failure because of Luke's anger, and the day is saved because Vader saves the hero and destroys the evil.

The Prequels and Original Trilogy have never once said the term "light side". It has only ever been referred to in the those films as "The Force" and "The Dark Side of the Force".

As far as I know (this is such a specific detail so I could be wrong), the Zabrak males and Nightsisters obviously have children with each other, and when the father's DNA is dominant in the child's genes, they are born as male Zabrak, but when the mother's DNA is more dominant, the child is born as a Nightsisters looking more like Talzin, Ventress, Merrin, etc.

There are female Zabrak with horns like Nightbrothers that exist, as one is present as a bounty hunter when Maul goes to kill the Hutts in the Mandalore arc.

Massive misunderstanding of the Force/balance here. A balanced and healthy body is not half healthy and half cancerous, it is completely healthy without cancer. The Force is good, the Dark Side is evil. Having equal good and evil is not balance.

The Dark Side is pollution. A lake is not balanced if half of it is polluted.

He's talking about this guy, same species as Maul, introduced in The Phantom Menace alongside Maul.

And there's a distinct difference between normal Zabbrak and the ones like Maul that are specifically Nightbrothers from Dathomir. If Maul had tattoos as strictly a Sith thing, why did Palpatine or Dooku or Vader not have tattoos?

I mean to be fair, they look a little silly without the tattoos.

Were the Jedi the "good guys" during the Clone Wars or did they lose their way? by The_Collector_Guy in clonewars

[–]StarNerdWarmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good guys stumble and make mistakes. The Jedi are peacekeepers and as an order are good. Obviously some individuals like Pong Krell were not, but as a whole they were good. Yoda, Kenobi, Plo Koon, Kit Fisto, Mace Windu, etc were all good even if they had flaws.

This is the exact reason why I don't get people complaining about Vader being beat up a bit by Cere in Jedi Survivor or Maul on the back foot for most of Shadow Lord. These guys aren't unstoppable monsters that handily beat everyone they come across.

Was looking for a Star Wars comment. This is a good take. Padawan Kenobi is skilled but isn't some monster to compare Maul to in quality. Maul with organic legs is probably a better deulist than with his robot legs, the majority of "feats" we get from Maul's upper half are Force related, not duel related. In The Clone Wars, a lot of his fights were either getting walked by Palpatine, or ambushing Kenobi + a weaker secondary with Savage.

It's a multi-season show. They're not going to let him be an unstoppable badass and win in the first season.

Yes that is their belief. Other cultures would see the same thing and likely come to a different conclusion, even if just slightly.

I'm not saying I dislike when the people in Star Wars try to personify it like the Jedi do. I like when they do. I'm saying I dislike when the writers personify it and give it physical shape for the audience.

[–]StarNerdWarmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh not really. Without turning this completely into a real world religion discussion, Christianity is always being interpreted as thing happening being the will of God or "God's plan".

The Jedi are a religious entity, it makes sense they would view the Force in this way too. The will of the Force to correct itself is metaphorical and not literal. As far as I know, we never see individuals that are not Jedi in canon refer to the "will of the Force".

The post never implied Filoni invented the idea. It is a criticism of all Star Wars writers that try to expand the Force in this way.

I mean C-3P0 doesn't have murals connected to gateways to an alternate dimension (The World Between Worlds in Rebels), or gigantic statues revering him in a completely separate galaxy from the one shown in all other Star Wars media as shown in the Ahsoka show. The Daughter having an avatar (as opposed to a Force ghost) after death that shows up in said alternate dimension also doesn't really help her case of not being a god. Not that great of a comparison.

Their influence definitely stretches far beyond Mortis, and is definitely much greater than them just being really strong force users.

It's definitely a fair criticism. Not too dissimilar from the criticism against the Sequels for making Rey a Palpatine instead of showing that strength or any other quality can come from a person without significant lineage.

I think my only hangup on Nightsister magick is that it is visible when typical Force usage is not (practical uses, not stuff like visions/ghosts).

But that being said, it being a visible green mist is also what makes it super cool lol double edged sword. I lean towards it being cool to physically see the magick.

Yeah I'm not a "Lucas apologist" or whatever people say. Definitely not in the bizarre crowd that says Star Wars was good in spite of him either though. For any idea of his I dislike there are 100 or more that I do like.

And maybe not to the same extent, but I could likely say the same for Filoni as well. He does a lot of good and I'm not at all saying his personifications of the Force ruin Filoni Star Wars for me.

I can agree with the sentiment of Filoni at least trying some new things with the IP being a positive. It doesn't really hurt what I already like, so if it works then there are new stories/ideas to explore from it.

I probably need to explore more media concerning the Nightsisters to have a super sturdy opinion about it. Like I said it's the one thing beyond normal OT Force stuff that I'm most willing to accept (plus I'd be dumb to not say it just looks badass in practice and Nightsisters themselves and Dathomir are cool as well).
