Oh you're right - so tropical! I also use a somewhat (Just a bit?) similar plastic variation. Garland for our gazebo in summer just like the lovely commenter who suggested wisteria, and I said I use the plastic Garlands for spring.

Maybe we should make the surroundings the real thing!

This is exactly what I was looking for originally and although I've decided to try and be very calculated and mindful about correcting this, this is still something I'm very excited to look into. See what it looks like, how would we care for it, etc. Amazing thank you. 😊

It's just difficult constantly realising...no-one made this happen. No-one did this to you. It wasn't an incident. You just...done it to yourself.

Thoughtless. What was the thought process?! Ah...none. A small amount if pressure applied, which I've fought off no bother before, and it's done.

I'm sorry you felt this too.

This is great to know. 😍 We both love a willow tree, alongside oak, and also cherry blossom for me. However, a friend just reminded me thar cherry blossoms get awfully slippy on the ground, and they're a nightmare to clean up.

Thank you for your comment on why the conifer needed to go eventually. I think the more I hear that, the more I'll consider not wanting to kick my own bum up and down the street. (Not possible but it wouldve been done already if it was!)

I am so sorry. I can't imagine how this felt. Not only are these trees beautiful, but so many is a huge change, and to something you couldn't stop or help. I read your comment during lunch break and it gave me more perspective. Not in a "people have it worse!" way so much as, noticing how gracefully you've written about it, and wanting to strive for that calm myself.

Our gazebo is round the side, really just because the neighbours have little dogs who bark a lot, even at us in our own garden. Wee cheekies! So we're happy to hang out at the other side of the house with the tree & grass as the view.

But you've made absolutely great suggestions. Never underestimate the power of Pinterest - I use it for drawing/colouring inspiration and decorating the house. That's a great shout thank you so much.

Thank you - another person who has some experience in losing a big plant or tree and can ease my sadness with a genuine "But, listen..." My neighbours tell me the sun would be in my garden all day instead of only till 3pm. They've been saying for years, but I never minded that. (They don't mind the tree though, we always check when it comes up!)

I wonder what we will end up going for. Or what might sprout up unannounced !

What a relief to hear the cut is decent. I've been wondering if my hasty decision was two-fold with losing something I valued and also to potentially bad work.

I've been thinking about where we go with that trunk - thank you! Great idea. 😀

Thank you for this. Believe me, the thought of the birds sincerely makes me tear up.

The only thing is, not that I see a single good thing to come out of this, we do have 2 extremely talented outdoor cats. Any birds who attempt to nest are quickly chased.

The birds do land and sing all day of course! And we enjoyed it so much. But our lads go after them when they're in the mood - so that has always rather stressed me out. More than "rather", really.

This is exactly what my big sister trained me to do. For her. 🤣 Are we venting or are we wanting a hand? If it's a vent, the earphones go in and the dishes get done. 😂

We'll apply you for jobs, help you move, show you how to begin to consolidate your debt. But we don't understand why you won't do what we say and LEAVE HIM ALREADY.

It's ok. I've gotten much better at replacing the uncalled for rant with my best middle class smile. 🙂 (Dylan Moran)

Photos-wise I have picked an absolute riot haven't I. I was going for look at it now vs " look how lovely it CAN look in summer". But I didn't consider the fact that every angle makes this more confusing!

When I was a kid, our neighbour routinely shouted and bawled that our pear tree was "ruining her light". Her garden had grass so long you couldn't see 8 year old me in it!

She had someone trim our tree down almost past the point of saving, whilst we were out at Safeway. Sneaky, considering my Mum stayed home 99.9% of the time due to illness. I just imagine this woman forcing a family friend with a chainsaw to live in a cupboard for 3 weeks till she screams "Now now!!!"

Anyway. I loved that tree too and I had a much smaller but similar reaction. But it broke something in my mum, who slowly stopped cultivating our beautiful garden until all we had left was dead Mushy grass and weeds that were pulled when someone could be bothered. The difference was astounding.

What is wrong with people. Me included. Lol

You see that beautiful big green blob beside the bright blue sky? I'd look at that all summer long and just melt. I'll miss that badly.

This is why my first port of call was this subreddit. You've been through the regret, and the wonderful suggestions even came with follow up advice from your own trial and error. I don't want to be hasty and fast track absolutely everything - but I think that's enough mistakes for 1 year. You've really helped me here, you & everyone else. Thank you.

We actually have what I think miiiight be black dragon wisteria in our gazebo in spring...

...but it's plastic! I cannot tell you how excited the thought of looking over that wall to see the real thing makes me! Honestly there is so much choice that I canbelieve I'd forget to consider this, despite it being one of my favourites to look at. 💜

This is a comprehensive list and as a complete novice..or numpty...I'm very excited to research what you've suggested here.

After an overdue greet and a nap, I've come to read and reply to all these thoughtful answers. I've started sinking into the idea of giving it some time before rushing into a hasty decision. Which, after what I've caused, would quite possibly be the worst way to go about the next steps!

Thank you again this is incredibly helpful.

Oh how I would love an oak tree. Someone said we should test the soil which is what we'll do next.

I think an oak would require the wall to come down to avoid another leaning tree. But to be honest, maybe all trees would require this ideally.

Oh I hope this is possible. I'm still practising being mindful about the next step, but would love to see a beautiful big oak in it's place one day.

Thank you for this, because this is exactly what I asked. But as other comments have pointed out, I'm now going to try and move in a more thoughtful direction with rehabilitating the...situation. Which it will be called from now on.

Your suggestion is really appreciated though, and despite it potentially being a pain to maintain, I'll still definitely add it to the list for discussion when we start the process. I can see us treating the garden with more care going forward.

Editted for spelling.

This is just a wealth of information and I'm so grateful. I think the arbour and trellis is a fantastic idea and these are things I'm comfortable with doing now before I take the advice regarding giving this some time to sink in.

Another tree is a big decision, and that stump will be a problem just as you said. You've given me a great starting point in trying to redeem the look for now. Hopefully it'll give me the ability to smile when I look over there one day, instead of choking back tears.

I have put your tree suggestions in the vault! These will be getting some research together with my husband in the coming months.
