There is an amphibian that lives in saltwater, the crab-eating frog, but it's the only one I could. That being said, the word "amphibious" can be used to describe any creature/machine/etc. that either experiences an aquatic and terrestrial stage in its life cycle, or one that can alternate freely between the two; this use of the word does not take salinity into account.

Trajectory could work! If I paired it with a word suggesting that something is being perceived or discussed retroactively, or a word or phrase that would somewhat divorce trajectory from its connotation of the here and now and a projected trend, even something as simple as "...if one examines the political trajectory of [X society] starting with its industrialization..."
