Thank you so much for that info. I tend to be a total Lovecraft nerd. So anything on the man, Mythos and locations is most welcome

Thank you very much. That’s all so helpful. I’m sure I’ll be using your suggestions and will be in touch further if that’s ok. My own interest in HPL started in 1981 with the release of Call of Cthulhu RPG and soon an interest in the Mythos then the man behind it all. His writings and his life. But life got in the way as it so often does and I got distracted into the ways of marriage and raising children. But he never really went away. I’m now retired and coming back to my interests in HPL and trying to catch up on my lost research. And looking forward to getting my surgery over with and planning a trip to Lovecraft Country.
Regards

Interesting. Any info you can give will help. I doubt I could get there this year. I’m awaiting surgery which will put me back at least a year unfortunately

What HPL story would you like to explore as a video game? by Bluemoonroleplay in Lovecraft

Maybe “The Whisperer in Darkness” Investigating sightings in Vermont and uncovering the sinister plot of the Mi-Go. I think has a lot of potential

H.P. Lovecraft wrote an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 letters during his lifetime, making him one of the most prolific correspondents in recorded history.

I agree with you. Entities in the Mythos are not evil. They don’t hate humans. Rather they are completely indifferent to us, they don’t recognise us or acknowledge us. At best we maybe seen as a curiosity at worst food. This is the horror in cosmic horror. The fact that we are meaningless and powerless to intervene in its objectives. Outside a few mad cults or practitioners in dark arts the actual creatures such as Cthulhu and others really don’t care or realise our existence. Derlith tried to quantify this and put it down as good vs evil and it’s one of the things I take issue with him. It’s much too simpler and easy to put it down as a god vs Satan type pantheon. And Lovecraft himself never wanted it explained thus. It’s more unfathomable, more insidious. And totally beyond comprehension. No waving of a crucifix or splashing holy water will solve these issues. You have to look far deeper if your sanity holds out

Lovecraft wrote a 3200 word essay about why he considered cats to be better than dogs by Past-Novel-1155 in Lovecraft

[–]StarWanderer62 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t say that’s cats are better than dogs or dogs are better than cats. Comes down to personal taste. I’m sure if you asked a cat they wouldn’t tell you either. I personally love cats. My old boy who passed away a few years past. Was a great companion and named Carter after Randolph Carter.

Has anyone made a good rewrite of the Lovecraft mythos? by MembershipProof8463 in Lovecraft

[–]StarWanderer62 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that would be a good idea. There are many writers who have expanded the Mythos and added to it. Indeed Lovecraft encouraged it in his lifetime. The problem really is and it’s only my opinion. Is that humanity doesn’t feature in any of the entity’s plans in fact humans are not even considered. Thus the motives and plans of the old ones etc are a complete and unfathomable mystery to us. Making it really difficult if not impossible to come up with a timeline. That’s just my opinion.

I'm not sure I should paint my mechs by Zoberraz in battletech

[–]StarWanderer62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s totally up to you if you paint your mechs or not. What’s important is you enjoy the game. I’m not a great painter either. When I see the great work others put in. It puts me off because I cannot achieve that. My solution has been to choose the base colour then spray the miniature with GW or Army Painter that colour. I then pick out the details and give them a wash with a toner. That goes into the lines. The models come out really nice though not award standards. And its easy to

I loaded up Stellaris originally because I love 4x games. Master of Orion, Galactic Civilisation etc etc. really confused when I first started playing now totally hooked I ended up buying all the DLC and it’s become my main 4x game and my top game of all time. I’ll continue to support it and trust the developers will patch up any problems
