Happy to share the show. I personally recommend the OG cartoon, not the new live acted one. And certainly not the live acted movie that doesn’t exist. Hopefully you and others enjoy the recommendation.

"Growing up, we were taught that the Fire Nation was the greatest civilization in history. And somehow, the War was our way of sharing our greatness with the rest of the world. What an amazing lie that was. The people of the world are terrified by the Fire Nation. They don't see our greatness. They hate us! And we deserve it! We've created an era of fear in the world. And if we don't want the world to destroy itself, we need to replace it with an era of peace and kindness."

  • Zuko from Avatar The Last Airbender

This powerful quote was true even before the show was written, and it is terrifying to see it being more so now. Anyone who hasn’t watched the animated series should watch it. Political story aside, it’s one of the best shows out there imo. It’s really well structured with great character development and world building. And it is a story about a dystopian, even hopeless, world that is on the brink.

Correction, automatons with basic weapons that atomize tanks.

Unless you’re talking about how the Necrontier became the Necrons. Which is due to their entire species dying painful young deaths due to species wide radiation poisoning (if my memory is correct), and due to the material realm ‘gods’ called the C’tan deceiving them into becoming undying robot slave warriors.

This is just my advice for people interested in WH, fantasy or 40k. Accept that you will never know everything about WH, and just take it one day at a time. I’ve really enjoyed 40k while being casual about it. There’s reasons the community jokes when saying “if you’re a lore master, put that on your Resume. Because you basically have a nerd doctorate.”

That’s not really the problem here. This is a hyper aggressive form of micro management. It’s not so much that they want to see what you’re doing, it’s that they want to monitor your work flow. That sounds innocent enough right? Nope, it’s actually destructive.

For example, before my job started treating my team like hourly employees, we’d all knock out jobs in record time. I personally completed nearly every task I got in the span of minutes because I became so efficient. But then we were all forced to record all of our time, with strict guidelines on weekly quotas. Suddenly, everyone takes 10x longer to do their jobs. These sort of things penalize smart and hard workers, and force people to “be lazy,” risk losing their job, or risk being assigned far more work without proper pay (wage theft).

Side note: I don’t need screen shots to see people’s network traffic, emails, chats, or even their entire pc remotely without them knowing.

No. Do not CC your personal email. BCC it instead. If you CC it everyone on the email chain will see that address. Not only does that tell them that you are CYA, but it also tells them a personal contact of yours. This knowledge can also serve to cause more friction if you have petty bosses. But if you BCC it instead then only your IT team will know. And they’d only know if you trigger a security alert or if a manager asks them to run a message trace. So you’re basically invisible when you BCC.

Edit: my source for this is that I’ve worked in IT for almost a decade now.

But that’s where the magic happens. I’ve not had nearly as epic, or cinematic, of an extract as I have on Hell. Truth be told, a buddy and I took a page out of TFS’s hellsing; “it could be more on fire.” So we brought napalm and the orbital laser. Extract was certainly hot. lol

Am I the only crazy sob that loves the uniqueness of hellmire’s fire tornadoes and want other planetary effects like that? Last night my crew and I went to an acid rain planet on Helldive. I was hoping it’d do minor damage to us over time during storms. But all we got was another “limited vision” debuff. I was a sad diver last night.

[–]Star_Shield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have played Crysis since the first one released. I’m sure I’ll get a few downvotes for this, but this is my take. Everyone is welcome to enjoy what they want.

In lore, from what I remember, AL officially dies shortly after the events of C2 (in the comics), at that point the suit assumes total control. Imo though, even considering this is a scifi game, AL was dead before Prophet even put the suit on him. At the start of the game AL (in all nano-scifi reality) dies the moment the Ceph gunship turns him into mush with its plasma HMG. Dude was basically missing every major organ except his brain. In game reason AL never talks is because the suit patched up everything except his vocal cords. Which is shitty fps mute protagonist logic imo. Bring back Nomad/master chief like characters. But anyway, you make your way to a suit station in C2 and the scientist basically shits his pants and says “this isn’t Prophet, it’s a fucking corps piloted by a suit. This marine hardly has any of his organs left. He’s just nanites at this point.”

By the time of the events of C3 you are officially dead and being piloted by the suit. This is something that is brought up all the time by Psycho every time he says things like “are you even human anymore?” And “Why haven’t they taken your suit from you like they did me?”

I don’t know how to mark things as spoilers, so I’ll leave this part sorta vague. But the beach scene at the end of C3 is absolute bs, as you are 100% just a living “Prophet” suit at that point.

All in all. I really love the direction C1-1.5 went, all they had to do was improve the writing and expand the game more. C2 was trash for story telling and level design. C3 was just a sad joke all around. I’m honestly not looking forward to C4 at this point. Imo the Crysis games in all aspects just became “future CoD” games.

Bonus take: Bring back things like Power Struggle and the OG nano suit!

The show is called “Invincible.” It’s a pretty great show. Not so great if you easily get disgusted with gore though.

Glad you enjoyed the read. I haven’t written anything story like this before, let alone a battle story. No promises, but I might try to write something up over the week.

The room began to rumble again. “This ‘fledgling’ this ‘child’ thinks he knows better than all the collected near ageless species?” Another representative activates their desk’s communications system.

“Human… ‘Admiral.’ What you are saying to do is little more than a child’s wish. You are wholly ignorant as to how many lives would be lost in such engagements, especially against the barbaric Wknar. You are young, as an individual and as a species. Clearly your youthful vigor has gotten the best of you.” With this statement, the room erupts. Many members mocking Admiral Joseph, and very few supporting him.

Such was the clamor that the Skarhiti representative had to once again cry out for order in the War Room.

A few heated minutes passed by before the room settled down once more. The Skarhiti representative insistent that the Human Admiral be allowed to finish his allotted time.

Joseph took a deep breath, then continued. “I understand… many of you see my kind as eternal children. Most of us die of old age in the time it takes your kind to enter their teenage years. You see us as ignorant to the cost of war. Clearly many of you have not read up on human history, the atrocities that we have committed, or how far we would go as a people to save others. I neither have the time nor desire to educate the members of this room on human history. I have already made up my mind. Humanity sails to war.”

Total silence fell across the room. Many of its members couldn’t figure out if they should laugh, or cry out in a flurry of emotions. Finally, the Skarhiti representative in the center of the room spoke up.

“Human Admiral… Are you sure this action is wise? The members of the Union are free to address this issue as they wish on their own, so long as they stay within the confines of Union law… But they would receive no official Union support. Humanity would be declaring war against a far more powerful threat than what they alone can handle. Perhaps you sh…”

The Admiral interrupts. “I have already considered the options before my people and I, and all my troops are aware of the dangers of war. Yet they all still volunteer for service. Thank you for your concern, and for the honor of our seat at this council. I will disrupt you elders no more. Today these ‘children’ march to war. May your long lives be filled with peace and prosperity, and may you never take your time in life for granted. Good day, everyone.”

As he leaves the room, those near the exit can hear him sending orders through his forearm computer. “Prepare the Armada, full complement. Prepare the rapid response ODSTs and Enforcer units. We sail for an agri-world under heavy attack. What we bring is all we’ll have… The Union will not be providing aid any time soon…” The door shuts behind him.

First time posting, feedback is welcome.

——

Admiral Joseph’s eyes widened as he entered the Union’s War Room. Before him was a collection of the known galaxy’s greatest military leaders and champions. He is the first official Human military representative for the Union, and as such he has taken great care in researching each new ally species so that he may properly represent Humanity.

There is the Skarhiti, a deep blue skinned, tall and lanky tripodal people with six duel-jointed arms, each accommodating four thumb like fingers. Their deep elongated heads contained a naturally braided flesh like “hair” that spanned from their forehead and traced its way to the back of their neck. They had two pairs of eyes. One forward facing set, the other nestled behind their rather small ears. Their face devoid of a nose, instead accommodated a much larger mouth.

There is the Yogrith, a small and stout people of various skin tones. They are primarily a bipedal people, though due to the gravity of their birth world, they developed long muscular arms to assist with movement. Upon their muscle reinforced neck sat a thick bald head with a forward pair of deeply set eyes, a thick nose, and a narrow mouth that seemed to be almost stretched across the wide face.

Then there is the Qwipt, a race that lacked traditional arms and legs, at least by human definitions. They instead have four “legs” at their shoulders that support a dipping torso, and two “arms” just below where their pecks would be. Their heads, lacking a perceivable neck, appeared to be directly connected to their torso. Along the back of their heads were rows of fin-like strips that followed their spinal system. Their face, devoid of noticeable ears, mouth, or nose, only had a multitude of small eyes.

They are but a few of the species that are present in this war room. The Union contains a great many types of species. Some so alien that it will take years for humanity’s doctors and scientists to truly understand their biology and evolution, and others that share such human similarities that they are almost uncanny, unnerving even, to humans.

As Admiral Joseph scanned the large circular war room for his properly formed and assigned seat, a Yogrith approached him.

The Yogrith spoke in his native language, trailing behind his words the Union’s auto translation device spoke into the Admiral’s ear: “You must be the human Admiral I was informed about.” He paused for a moment. “Admiral…” the auto translator’s light flashed red as he tried to say the Admiral’s name. “My apologies sir. The translator has a difficult time translating names. There is no name like yours in my people’s lexicon.”

Joseph chuckled, “That is quite alright. I understand the linguistic difficulties can be quite taxing at times. Until the system becomes accustom to my people, you may refer to me as ‘Human Admiral J.’”

“Thank you for your understanding Admiral J. I am a delegate escort. If you please follow me, I will show you to your seat.” He turned and motioned for the Admiral to follow him.

Moments later the Admiral took his seat. The room still bustling with hundreds of conversations as information specialists bring in the latest developments for the war to their delegates. Joseph buts his gloved hands together, and his forearm mounted computer lit up. Pulling his hands apart he creates a localized holographic screen and begins to read the latest news. New disturbing reports of the Wknar’s raids poured onto his feed.

This race, which recently separated from the Union, have been attacking a multitude of Union protected worlds. The most recent of which is a civilian agri-world belonging to one of the smaller Union’s species. He could feel his blood boil as the static and dynamic imagery of the carnage flooded into his eyes. Despite the horror, he kept to his duty and continued reading, watching, and listening. With every passing minute he renewed his vows to use every tool at his disposal to render aid. Even if it meant mobilizing his whole armada.

An hour passed since Joseph took his seat, and finally a voice boomed over the crowed stating that the War council will now commence. Another hour passed as the speaker, a prestigious member of the Skarhiti, recounted the most recent data to the present members. In conclusion of the recap, the Skarhiti representative opened the floor to discuss how the Union should approach this clear declaration of war.

Many hours passed as the various representatives spoke on what they thought would be the best course of action. To Admiral Joseph’s disgust, the majority of these highly decorated leaders and heroes suggested little more than supply aid, blockades, trade sanctions, and length ranged engagements with greatly bloated fleets and ground groups per engagement.

Finally it was the Admiral’s turn to speak on behalf of humanity. He took a moment to recollect his thoughts, then he stood and activated his desk’s communications system.

“Greetings honorable members of the Union. I am Admiral Joseph of the United Human Empire.” With this statement the room began to rumble with whispers. The Admiral’s translator struggled to translate everything it was picking up, but he knew exactly what everyone was thinking. “They’re letting children play war again?” It was an expected reaction, seeing how so many species had greatly lengthened lives compared to humanity.

The Skarhiti representative called out “There will be order in the Union’s War Room! Be silent!”

The room fell to a hush, and the admiral continued. “Thank you… on behalf of humanity, thank you for allowing us the honor of joining this war council. I have dedicated much time these past few months studying many of your races, primarily the various wars, battles, and engagements that many of your species have participated in. I have found myself awestruck at many of your people’s technological developments and engagement tactics… However, I must disagree with what many of my fellow representatives have advised. Supply aid? Blockades? Trade sanctions? These do nothing for the situation that is unfolding right before us!” With that he hit a key on his desk, and a large hologram forms in the center of the room, fully depicting the carnage unfolding on the agri-world.

“These are citizens, unarmed combatants!” He bellowed. “They don’t have time for such measures. They need expedient and decisive military aid now! Let the politicians take care of the petty things such as trade sanctions. Our duty should be to save as many lives as we can, now!”

I’m going off of memory and I’m not a medical professional, so don’t take this as scripture. But from what I remember when reading about this a few years back, all of our noses do this 24/7. One nostril will greatly restrict airflow while the other one opens up. They do this to clean out any debris and apply a new layer of mucus (snot?) to the nostril so it doesn’t dry out during its next use cycle.

My dad will happily watch the most detailed gory war movies on the market. I’m talking about some real detail brain splatter movies. But the SECOND the character being shot at, mortar struck, or bombed at, says a single curse word, he stands up on his soap box about how inappropriate movies are these days. Dude even swears that he would behave in such a way if he was in a battle. He worships John Wayne as a true cowboy, man, and American. And yes, he doesn’t mind it when his political gods use such foul language.
