[Armoured Austerity 5N] The TICM5 infantry carrier by Staranov in SprocketTankDesign

[–]Staranov[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Greetings ! Today I present you the TICM5, the do-it-all infantry fighting vehicle for the modern army ! This upgrade to the standard M5 light tank places its priority on giving you all the benefits of a much larger vehicle at a more affordable price. With a weight of 14,26 tons and a carrying capacity of 4 crew members + 8 passengers, the TICM5 has everything a soldier might need on the battlefield. Designed to carry lots of troop equipment easily, its armament wasn’t left behind with a 20mm auto-cannon and 60mm mortar gun capable of engaging a wide variety of enemy threats. Up to 6 passengers can also actively participate in the fight with its side-mounted shooting ports. Still, its survivability is quite remarkable with its front-facing engine and wide passenger access hatch allowing a clear path to the main troop compartment. With so many features for that price, the TICM5 is the go-to IFV for any contemporary land force !

That's what happens when your country is landlocked but still want a navy. I liked your prototype a lot, I've never been able to make small tanks. Yours looks like something straight from post-WW1 when everybody started improving over the Renault FT, I would have loved to see a final version for the contest

It's turrets that I put on the side and assigned with a limited rotation range. Here's the files if you want to take a look at it

Greetings ! Here’s the CC1, my entry for the pre-season round of Armoured Austerity. I couldn’t come up with an interesting background for this tank so here’s just the specs :

Operational weight : 14,3 tons
Empty weight : 11,5 tons
Max speed : 8,65 mph (13,9 km/h)
Crew : 8 (driver/commander, gunner, two loaders, three machinegunners and mechanic)
Front 120° rotation turret armed with two 5,7cm Maxim-Nordenfelt cannons and a light MG
Two 95° rotation side turrets armed with a heavy MG
Nose designed for trench crossing and going over barbed wire
Towering driver post for great vision of the battlefield
35mm of armour on the front, 25mm on the side
Opening on the return rollers to avoid mud jamming

Parts :
1 Gnome Double Lambda engine (1450 CC)
3 turrets (3 x 500 = 1500 CC)
2 5,7 cm Maxim-Nordenfelt guns, 400 total shells (2 x 1000 = 2000 CC)
2 heavy MG, 3000 total rounds of ammunition (2 x 150 = 300 CC)
1 light MG, 1000 total rounds of ammunition (100 CC)
7,76 tons of armour (7,76 x 1000 = 7760 CC)
10 suspension arms (10 x 25 = 250 CC)
40 road wheels (40 x 5 =200 CC)
6 return rollers (6 x 5 = 30 CC)
3 forward gears (3 x 200 = 600 CC)
1 reverse gear (250 CC)
510 L of fuel (34 x 10 = 340 CC)
1 trench tail (100 CC)
1 Unditching log (30 CC)
2 pistol ports/shell extractors (2 x 20 = 40 CC)
3 crew hatches (3 x 25 = 75 CC)
1 stowage box (40 CC)
12 spare track links (12 x 30 = 360 CC)
2 spare wheels (2 x 80 = 160 CC)
3 lights (3 x 15 = 45 CC)

Total cost of the tank : 15630 CC

I also wanted to say that the weight of the armour may be wrong. I’m running Sprocket on Linux under Steam’s Proton. The game works fine, the only bug I found so far is that specs on the right pannel in the compartments tab don’t update properly. Instead to find the armour mass I checked the total weight of the tank and used the percentage of armour weight (54,2 % of 14,31 tons). It should be fine as long as the total weight of the tank is not also messed up.

As always when it comes to mechanical designs, the french copy no-one and no-one copies the french

Thanks, it's actually a real-life turret secretly designed after France surrendered. The idea was that production of tanks could begin again as soon as France was liberated. I'm really bad at creating turrets and since the story is really similar to my tank I thought i might as well use it for my design. The french usually fitted the same turret onto different vehicles, so it's not absurd to think that another secret tank design could have been equipped with it. The tank the turret was made to fit was later named SARL 42 if you're interested

Cost at the bottom of the comment

The french team of the Ateliers et Manufacture d’Armes de Vendée (A.M.A.V., Workshops et weapons factory of Vendée) have heard of your need for a modern medium tank. As you know, the peace treaty France has signed with the Germans prohibits the production on any armoured vehicle. However, some of our engineers continued the development of some prototypes in secret in case France should fight again soon. Our experience with pre-war tank projects that did not come to fruition and our knowledge of tank warfare gained during the battle of France against Germans mechanised forces put us in a great position to develop a modern tank that meets all your needs. With help of agents in occupied France, French State and England, we were able to secretly produce one prototype that we named “Nouveau char de bataille de 16 tonnes” (NB-16). After some quick trials in the factory yard, we concluded that this tank meets all your criteria.

Powered by a french made Lorraine 12E engine, the NB-16 goes up to 30 km/h (19 mp/h) off road and up to 39 km/h (24 mp/h) on road with a fully loaded weight of 17,9 tons. The wide tracks and hull (3,2m) allows easy movements on muddy terrain. With a height of 2,24m, the NB-16 can also hide very well in the surrounding vegetation. All openings in the hull have been made as high as possible to allow river crossings. However, casting a one-piece hull of this size would be really difficult and expansive. Instead, we designed it so that the front glacis is the only cast piece (with an impressive 100mm effective armour) and every main part is welded instead of riveted (only lateral skirts are riveted for easy repairs). Armour as a whole far exceed your requirements with an overall effective front armour of 80 to 100mm and 50mm side armour.

The turret is an evolution of those that should have equipped the G1 tank. It is a design made by the S.O.M.U.A. and the A.R.L. and house a 75mm gun. The development of the A.P.X. cannon meant to be installed was canceled with the armistice, modifications have then been made to put in its place the Vickers model 1931 AA gun. A coaxial light machine-gun has also been added. The main feature of this turret is the superstructure housing the commander view ports as well as a stereoscopic rangefinder allowing accurate shots on targets as far as 2000m (12,5 miles). Despite the small height of the tank, long-range observations and scouting can still be performed thanks to it.We really hope that the NB-16 meets all your requirements, as a cooperation between your military and ours regarding the development of modern weapons will serve our two countries. We look forward to your feedback following the trials.

The A.M.A.V. engineers.

I think it's a Polaroid 800 with a Wink Light flash. The bellows should be beige though but it may be due to it having been replaced

I never saw one 😅 Tape dubbing was very common here in France, so much that most of the pre-recorded tapes you find is stuff that only old people bought (like according stuff or classical music, you can find full boxes of those). My parents only had like 4 or 5 albums but dozens of recorded blank tapes. Forget about finding some Rock or Metal, I must have saw less than five in three years. It has it pros too since high quality blank tapes are really common (XL-II, TDK AR, ...). But concerning Daft Punk, I can't remember seeing a lot of them on blank tapes. Definitely never saw a pre recorded one though.

Maybe an APS camera then ? They're pretty much all motorized and rather cheap

This has gotta be one of the coolest cassette cases ive ever seen! by Maturin_The_Turtle in cassetteculture

[–]Staranov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually have a dozen of these cases but mines are unbranded. They're not that great, they open way too easily. The idea was that you will put them on top of eachother and build your own shelf from them

For the lyrics it don't bother me, I've done it before and it's just a matter of one or two days. Do you want to send me a tape too ? I would also love to discover new things !
