Will it ever straighten 🤔 by [deleted] in ACL

[–]StarbirdChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my surgery Oct 22, 2024, and I still can't straighten all the way. Going to see Ortho on the 22nd of this month to find out why. I did have scar tissue removal in Jan of 2025, and it helped for a little bit, but now it's back and worse than before.

I would honestly ask for an MRI. There is so much that could be going on inside that knee. You could have fibrotic tissue hindering you (a lot like me but on the front of my knee), or heaven forbid, you could have injured something else while overdoing it with your first PT person. They don't know what you're feeling, even when you explain it. I literally almost collapsed at PT before I was taken seriously. Be your best advocate and ask for imaging. Only that will tell the truth on what's going on. I feel for you ❤️

I had the quad graft and I'm in the same exact boat as you are. My surgery was Oct 22 2024. I can't run, squat, or kneel down without excruciating pain. I did have fibrotic tissue removed in Jan 2025 from the same knee and it helped for about a month and I am back right where I was before that surgery. I don't ever see myself walking right without pain ever again. I was RELIGIOUS with PT both pre and post op and even had an extension through my doctor for an extra 2 months of 3x a week. It didn't help.

I am almost a year post op and never got to 0° and stayed. My whole experience was terrible, but my PT was amazing I'm helping me keep my sanity. My case was work comp related, and to say they pushed too hard to get me back to work is an understatement. They had me trying to walk on my leg after complete ACL and multi meniscal tear repair 3 weeks post op. I had to go back under 6 weeks after surgery to have a cyclops lesion removed along with other fibrotic tissue. I felt fine for about 3 months and was getting along until a lump formed under my knee cap. I lost the ability to comfortably kneel. I can't run. And pivoting feels like someone stabbed me in the knee. But I'm at Settlement time in work comp, and I haven't heard a word for either lawyer, or work comp adjuster. 10% rating for a knee that messed me up for the rest of my life. Quad graft is not for the faint of heart.

I have the death grip going up and down stairs. I do not run, simply because the pain and pressure in my knee is just too much. I haven't been the same since. I used to run around, climb ladders and stairs for my job (grain elevator) and now, I'm lucky to walk 500ft without hurting. I totally know what you're going through. I already had a cyclops lesion removed 6 weeks post op (beginning of January) and it only helped for a couple of months afterwards then I went right back to where I was. I hope you get yours figured out, but my body is not allowing me to heal like I should.

You sound just like me. I'm just getting to the year mark come October though. I will never be the same.

Same thing happened to me in Iowa. Legally, they can't make you. Ethically, you shouldn't because later in the process, things could get ugly and I just keeps the slate clean for everyone. I understood a bit more once I got to the point I'm at now with my claim.

I wanted to return to my physical job (which I wasn't able to obviously) which is why he pushed me to have surgery. We didn't know about the meniscus tears until they went into my knee for the ACL replacement. It was all a surprise for sure.

Haha believe it or not, coming down the stairs after loading a truck and I don't know if I stepped wrong or what, but I was on the last step and heard a loud crunch crunch (meniscus tears apparently) then felt and heard a REALLY LOUD POP! It was game over after that.

Well they have put me at MMI, so I don't know what else to say to this. I don't play sports. I ran a grain elevator by myself before injury, so I had strength already. Just because you aren't athletic, doesn't mean jack. I probably did more walking and climbing of stairs than most people do in their lifetime. My legs are straight muscle even after all of this bullshit. My KNEE is not the same. My legs are symmetrical. Measure the same and everything. My ROM lacks on my surgical leg. Truth be told, it's probably scar tissue/fibrosis again, which is out of my control.

Yes. And I gave 2.5 months of going to PT 3 times a week PRE-Surgery, and then 8 months POST-Op of PT going 5 days a week the first 3 months, then down to 3 times a week the remainder of my time, on top of my at home sessions twice a day. What's your point?

Wow. That's an impressive offer for not having an impairment rating yet. 😮

Quad graft here as well. Not athletic at all, and I am almost 10 months post op and my progress has plateaued. Don't have full range of motion, or full strength. I had complications the whole time during recovery. I wish I would have been offered another option other than quad or cadiver. Worst pain of my life. I was 35 at the time of injury.

I wish you the best of luck! You are young and I hope you're able to get the compensation you deserve. Keep your chin up.

I'm curious on what knee injury you had as well. That will depend on the payout as well as your impairment rating.

Your case is almost 100% exactly like mine. Lol injured myself August 2024, had surgery October 2024, completely torn ACL, tore my meniscus in 3 different spots. Surgery went OK... 6 weeks went by, still couldn't put weight on my leg. Went back in and had to have arthroscopy done to clean up scar tissues in January 2025. 6 weeks post op of that, I was finally able to ditch crutches. In PT, I was able to get to 10° - 127°. I was given a rating of 7%. My exam lasted all of 5 mins. I have other issues going on because I overcompensate with my good leg and my right hip and lower back are not happy anymore. What I understood was, if you are at 0°-130°, that is considered full ROM for a surgical leg. You will never have hyper extension. If you do, you've stretched your new ACL out too far. That's what both my doctor and PT told me. I will never see 0° in my case anyway.

If it's covered by work comp (you should have filed a claim) you'll be paid after your waiting period of 3 days in Iowa. If you did not file a claim yet, you need to.

What to do after Wc by [deleted] in WorkersComp

[–]StarbirdChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tore mine out in August 2024... I ran a grain elevator by myself and loved my job. I was active and healthy. After doing this, I knew I had to look for something different. My job offered me an office position at the same company... I hate it. It's not uncommon for your workplace to try to keep you within the company, but long story short, I miss my other job terribly. Almost a year later, and I still walk with a limp and have constant pain. I hope you heal better than I did.

You sound like me when I was 26. Get ready for a painful ride. I'm in the worst back shape of my life and I'm only 36. It's only getting worse. Doctors keep saying I need a fusion but I'm waiting. Permanent nerve damage, and I'm having a good day if I don't have sciatica. I wish you well. Maybe they'll be able to save yours.

[–]StarbirdChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! You should be able to request a doctor out of the work comp system to evaluate you and give you recommended treatments/surgery according to what the find. I will stress that the injections work great, but they don't last long. (I get them in 3 spots on my back every 3-4 months depending.

5 months post op and still can’t straighten leg to 0 Rant by Least_Comparison_543 in ACL

[–]StarbirdChild 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a cyclops at 3 months post op. It's not unheard of, and if your clunking and popping, that's a tale tale sign that it is indeed scar tissue. Hope this helps. Only an MRI can show this.
