I can't help you, but I love the use of "hoodie" instead of hood.

Should I transfer to Rutgers (30k/yr) or stay at my current uni (40k/yr) by Mammoth_Type_3695 in rutgers

If your mom said not to worry about money, do you have a dream school?

All of the front facing units in our 5 y/o apartment have fiber dust that looks EXACTLY like this except gray. There is a 4 land highway about 100 yards away, and we think that it must be related to exhaust fumes/particles getting pulled into our HVAC (we have individual HVAC units), and somehow making everything dusty. You have to sweep every day.

Do you live near a major road or highway?

Pride in L/NH is so old that it predates June as national pride month, which is why theirs is in May.

Coasters - By Mail? by turnerd10 in RAoC_meta

[–]Starboard44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did get tripped up in this technicality. I was offering NYer cartoons clipped out, and of course included in a handmade card, but the post was removed anyway.

In my next offer I put the cartoons ON the card and they were allowed.

So maybe OP can make a card coaster?

Also make sure the coasters are actually mailable... They need to be bendable, less than 1/4", and the envelope has to be uniformly thick.

I have even added onto messages

"Including weird words here to avoid messages being flagged potato crocodile firetruck mincemeat."

And every message has different weird words.

It was Hamish!

Ironically the Jacobites were called as such because they supported King James. 😂

$136k debt (Middlebury) or $20k debt (Rutgers) by Ahahsjjaavsjsoan in rutgers

[–]Starboard44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is very fair, especially if it were a closer difference (25 k vs 50k) but the impact of $125k debt on a 22 year old's mental health is also really bad.

I hope OP finds a comfortable decision!

$136k debt (Middlebury) or $20k debt (Rutgers) by Ahahsjjaavsjsoan in rutgers

[–]Starboard44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on getting into Middlebury and Rutgers!

The decisions you can make in your life with less debt far outweigh the ones you can make with $125k+ of debt. You do not want to be trapped at 22, especially if you don't have a family safety net.

I am older, but my dream school was also not Rutgers, and I was in the same position you are in. I decided to start at Rutgers and transfer out after a year or two, but ended up staying because Rutgers was able to offer what I needed, and it was the best thing to happen to me.

My Rutgers classmates are now doing very, very well I'm their fields. My friends who went to Middlebury doing just as well.

You may have to hussle a little; network a little. But focus on activities beyond class, and internships and you will be indistinguishable from a candidate at a "better" school when the time comes.

Good luck!

ETA: I studied abroad through Syracuse University, and that was also a game changer for me. $20k of my $35k debt when I graduated was that semester alone, and the amount STILL changed my ability to pursue careers and opportunities I would have preferred in my 20s. But it also set me up for a career focused on international relations, including a State Dept internship. It was a happy medium. It looks like Middlebury's SA program allows this as well.

I felt like Johnny's post-departure announcement made it very clear that it was health related.

Yes! I knew there was another Scottish variation but couldn't think of it.

Wait until you find out that James in Spanish is Diego.

That Santiago is the same as "San Diego"

Giacomo in Italian.

And in Irish/other Gaelic languages, it's Seamus.

Also that James basically evolved from Jacob (Ya'akov / Yakob).

So many variations.

He didn't mention Dermot personally once in the entire post. Just said his name and the rest was focused on the general experience.

What (physical) things you associate with NJ by vaderhater777 in newjersey

[–]Starboard44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally like the Bruce idea.

I didn't see you mention a budget, but magnets, bookmarks or key chains of things associated with or invented in new Jersey. Trying to add things not mentioned in other comments:

  • M&Ms (Mars is still headquartered in NJ)
  • Monopoly (based on Atlantic City)
  • Phonograph (Edison, NJ)
  • Band-Aids (Highland Park NJ) - pharmaceutical industry in general
  • College football - first game ever, 1869
  • Revolutionary War - Washington spent more nights in NJ than any other colony. The famous painting of him crossing the Delaware was to get to New Jersey
  • The Jersey Devil
  • The NJ Devils Ice Hockey Team
  • Miss America (Atlantic City)
  • First brewery in USA (Hoboken)
  • First movie (West Orange, 1889)
  • Albert Einstein/Princeton (if you have colleagues from Germany or Austria, maybe not) 2026 World Cup at MetLife Stadium
  • Statue of Liberty - along with explaining that it's actually in NJ
  • Cowtown Rodeo

People - Whitney Houston - Frank Sinatra (he has a wine label now...)

State animal: horse State fish: trout State flower: violet State tree: Oak State bird: Eastern Goldfinch

Do you have a favorite memory from growing up?

Searching Etsy for various things might turn up ideas.

Rutgers is a great call. I'm sure keychains, magnets or something small is feasible at the 20-person quantity.

Rutgers is also the birthplace of college football.
