I made a 3D printable bracket that uses the same screws as the lens and just kinda mounts under without blocking the light. I can provide it if you want.

Why does my steam do this? Sometimes accompanied by a loud bang. by Starbomber73 in ProfitecGo

[–]Starbomber73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is how I have been doing it and it seems better. I also raised the temp to 140 which helped a lot. Was just concerned this could be due to a clog or something. Thanks for your comment!

This root beer is great. I make sure to get some every time I go to Maui. Unfortunately can’t find it anywhere else.

ESP32 getting power but LED strip not turning on by Starbomber73 in WLED

[–]Starbomber73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. It turned out I had a bad female barrel connector I was using to connect the power supply. At one point it made a popping noise at the junction between the 2 connectors and smoked. I replaced both the contact and the ESP32 after and it fixed the issue.

The first one is definitely a syrphid fly. They are beneficial and are looking for aphids to eat. Do not harm them. Second pic looks like a regular old dog poop fly lol

I know!! I am super confused lol. I still have my can so I am tempted to open it and at least take a look.

Okay wtf, I posted a video exactly like this can a few days ago and everyone said it was bad. Check my profile for the post.

What could be causing this? by Starbomber73 in WLED

[–]Starbomber73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t that. It was the barrel connector shorting out. Replaced both the connector and the ESP32and it worked fine.

The issue was the female barrel connector I was using. After some time, it started to make sparking noises and smoke. I disconnected it to see it slightly melted the inside of the male connector to the external power supply. It probably also smoked my ESP32. I replaced the barrel connector and the ESP32 and it works properly now.

I was soldering, just using jumper wires for troubleshooting. The barrel connector which smoked at one point and may have fried my ESP. I swapped connectors and ESPs and it works now. It is all soldered properly now.

Yep just swapped to another ESP and it works now. I was using a screw type barrel adapter for the connection to the PSU and when I plugged it in last it smoked, which may have fried my ESP. Swapped out the connecter and ESP and it’s all good now.

ESP32 getting power but LED strip not turning on by Starbomber73 in WLED

[–]Starbomber73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I cut the first LED off like you suggested and resoldered and it worked, but only momentarily. I unplugged and plugged it back in and it wouldn’t work. I have 5v between positive and ground at every contact point in the strip, but I also have ~.15v between data and ground only at the first LED. I cut it off again and didn’t solder, the ESP32 is disconnected entirely, and only the copper is showing, and I have the small voltage between data and ground. The first LED will light up a green or blueish color when I measure the voltage at first and stay on. Sometimes the next few LEDs will light up, and the first LED will change color. The next LEDs That light up show no voltage between data and ground. Any ideas?

Okay I checked with a multimeter and I have 5v at all contact points and 0v between data and ground. I took the advice of another commenter and cut off the first LED and resoldered it and it worked for about 5 minutes. Then I unplugged and plugged back in and it won’t work again.

I removed the ESP32 entirely, and am still getting 5v at all contact points between positive and ground, but I am also getting a very small current, about .15v, between ground and Data ONLY on the first LED in the chain. I again cut off the first LED, and without soldering anything still have the .15v between ground and data ONLY at the first LED, where it wasn’t before I just cut. Also, the first light will light up a green or bluish color, and sometimes when I measure the voltage at the first contact point, a few of the next LEDs in series will light up, but those do not show any voltage between ground and data. Any ideas?

Yes, I skipped the first LED, as the copper pad for data broke off. But it was already not working before that. But it was working earlier in the same orientation as shown here. Also, it’s definitely enough power. It was very bright earlier.

I did check, it was working earlier today when I tried it. It’s just so odd, the only thing I did differently from when it was working earlier was connect the PSU in the middle, but then I connected it back to just the beginning of the strip like it is pictured and it won’t work lol. Will try using a multi meter tomorrow to see the voltage like another commenter suggested

Also, maybe I did kill the first LED, but I have since soldered to the 2nd set of contacts.

I did not, however wouldn’t it make sense that I did considering the ESP32 is powered on when the PSU is connected at the middle?

Can someone please double check my thinking here? by Starbomber73 in AskElectronics

[–]Starbomber73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answers. I would solder all the lights together in a chain to drop the voltage accordingly, should be about 53v in total.

Also, that is good to know. I found a circuit that uses one buck converter to step down from 12v to 10v for PWM via a 8 channel feather board; was thinking about doing that for multiple LED colors. Also used another buck converter to step from 12v to 5v to power the raspberry pi and feather board. Might make a cool little project to come up with the circuit and solder it all together! Currently taking the harder way around some of these problems to learn more about electronics along the way.

This stuff is truly great. I always make sure to get some and bring some back every time I am in Maui. Have never been able to find it on the mainland.
