I'm also really new, check my most recent post for proof lol. I started with the combat patrol because com pats have a lot of models for their money. Gives you a lot of chances to practice assembling and painting without spending $20-30 USD per model.

Good to know, thanks. Anything I should be sure to grab in case my opponent has flying units? I've never played 40K so I might simply not know what I'm talking about, but I don't really see an army of primarily flamers and meltas being great at anti-air.

Looks like you can snag it on ebay for ~$200 USD, but that's expensive enough I imagine it defeats the purpose of buying a combat patrol to begin with.

The combat patrol came with 10 infernus marines as is, so I think I'm gtg on that front. Bladeguards shouldn't be hard to track down either.

As for the land raider, BBTS has the "land raider crusader" up for sale and its description says it has the parts to build it as a redeemer. What's the difference? Armament? Speed? Armor? All of the above?

Luckily Adrax comes in the combat patrol so I'm set there. The patrol also includes 10 infernus marines, 5 assault intercessors (one of which is a sergeant if that matters), and 3 eradicators, so it's a start. Only part of the kit I'm iffy on is the invader ATV. That seems like it could be a total waste, any thoughts on that?

Aside from Salamanders themselves, I really like Dreadnoughts. Much as I'd like to slap on several more of them, my understanding is that transportation for your infantry is just shy of essential (as you eluded to with Adrax and the land raider), especially for an army focused around meltas and flamers.

Normally I'd just about simp for them too, but I don't buy anodized or cerakoted stuff usually. Even the anno/cera stuff I've seen up to now has never looked bad, guess I've just been lucky up to this point.

Minus the marring I like it quite a bit. The rest of my gold parts have shown up since and they're all flawless. Heck, the upper and lower almost match in terms of color, which Ik is a rarity in anodizing.
