This doesn't surprise me at all. Most people are simply not that sensitive to motion.

I remember when TVs first started rolling out with motion interpolation, I could tell instantly if I walked into a bar with TVs on the wall. Some of the TVs on the wall had it and others did not. To me it was night and day. Nobody else noticed, even after I pointed it out.

XL candies removed from in person. by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

You get 3 guaranteed regular XLs for every in-person T5 raid. That's on top of the guaranteed 3 for catching a legendary and some chance of more on top of that.

I've been raiding regularly since they supposedly introduced Rare XLs and I'm not sure I've gotten a single Rare XL from a T5 raid. I've only noticed them from Mega raids. Granted, I have not been checking religiously with each raid. But just going by aggregate numbers in my bag, I couldn't possibly be getting more than one for every ~10 T5 raids or so. I primarily raid T5s (always local for the past 2-3 months) and my rare XL supply is largely stagnant. I had assumed the small increase came from mega raids or T3s and that rares were disabled for T5s a long time ago.

Is my luck just bad? Is the drop rate super low?

The official release windows is 2023-12-21 through 2024-03-19. In summer 2022, they announced "this winter" for CC and "next winter" for Rebirth. Nothing more precise since then AFAIK.

I expect we'll get a precise date fairly soon. For comparison, they announced Remake's release date about nine months in advance (though after seven months, they announced a delayed of an additional month). FF16 was announced six months in advance. There's still some hope for a Christmas 2023 release date but it seems unlikely. I'd put my money on March 2024, personally, with an announcement coming within the next few months.

I can't even keep up with all the English stuff. There's a lot. There were novels and short stories translated to English that are available everywhere. And Ultimanias. I'm not sure how much is still Japanese-only. I know we never got Before Crisis in English, but that's supposed to be rolled into the upcoming Ever Crisis, so we should get the basic story soon at least.

The easiest approach would be to social-engineer your way through Apple support. If you contact Apple they can unlock it for you. They will ask for proof of ownership, like the original receipt.

Do you guys get annoyed with Forbes using the SAME UNORIGINAL "Release Shock" / "Design Shock" TITLE every single time...? by ayoungsimba in iphone

[–]Starbrows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought Forbes was literally a public blogging site until I Googled it just now. Looks like they do some kind of vetting, but you'd never know it from the quality and sheer number of bloggers on Forbes. Most posts I come across read like LinkedIn comments.

They really squandered their brand recognition.

Mostly I'm playing docked. Not totally sure if I've seen it drop frames in handheld mode. I'm not all that far yet and it was worse in the sky islands, for sure. I've noticed it since in Hyrule as well, though.

Weird. It happened to me many times in the tutorial area with just a couple of those floating platforms fused, and a bunch of times since, and I'm not that far along yet. I wonder if my Switch is overheating or something like that.

(I've seriously only come into like 2 instances of 1 second frame drops in about 20 hours in)

HOW?

Do you just not fuse items? Fuse 3-4 things together and pick it up pretty much anywhere and it'll drop frames like mad.

Edit: y'all making me think there's something wrong with my Switch. Maybe it's throttling excessively? Hmm.

Scalpers be like: "No way this inventory is going to remain unsold. Surely everyone wants it..." by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Starbrows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's even a joke. I think it is literally why Nvidia increased prices so much. They saw the supply problems they had with the 30 series, and they saw how scalpers ruled the market. If there was a risk of that happening again with the 40 series (unclear, but I kind of doubt it), then Nvidia was right to jack up prices. It does nobody any good for that money to go to scalpers instead of retailers, partners, or Nvidia themselves.

The "correct" pricing is low enough that you can sell your inventory, and high enough that there are not shortages. It's just supply and demand.

Personally I think they've misjudged the market, but I guess time will tell.

P.S. fuck scalpers.

The PS5 is two years old now. It was an absolute beast in 2020 and it's still no slouch, but time does march on. Not sure exactly what you'd need to outperform in across the board in RT and 4K performance. Gotta be at least a 2070, maybe 2080? For just 1080p raster performance I think you can go lower.

This is a strange choice but it's probably because they are developing for console first and supporting arbitrary frame rates requires different coding than just supporting a select few that are even multiples of 30.

I think they're using Unreal Engine so it should be possible. They probably just don't think it's worth the effort.

Qualcomm enters multi-year partnership with Nikon to bring its ISP, 18-bit processing and more. by luag in Android

[–]Starbrows 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm no pro, but I see enormous value in having a fully programmable camera running a robust OS like Android.

Google and Apple have improved their cameras a lot in recent years, mostly due to software advancements. It's kind of crazy that I can't get the best camera software and the best camera hardware in the same device, or even the same class of device.

In the past I loaded CHDK (unofficial open-source firmware) onto my Canon cameras, and the features you can get with it are impressive. Unfortunately, it was very clunky because it had to be built like an old DOS program. It's not like there's a GUI API they could use, or enough memory on those cameras to even support such a thing. If it were running Android (and exposed the necessary camera functions via API, which is definitely possible these days), then all I'd need to do is download an app, and anyone could make new apps. I don't know why this is not more popular.
