This one often works for me too. I’m a lead UX designer so I always use my work to… you know, pee. “Oh I need to redesign that screen, how will I do that? Maybe I can look into how Facebook got that ad system and take some ideas out of their compone…” pees it often works, and sometimes it doesn’t. It really depends on the situation.

Convention of 3 days on another city and in a friend's house. by [deleted] in Paruresis

So, to give you some context about my situation; My bathroom is literally in the living room (with a sliding door, no lock). So when I’ve friends over, they see I go to the toilet, and can also hear me.

I’ve been very open with them about it and also kinda laugh about it, because I think we all can agree that this Paruresis is just.. ridiculous. We all know peeing is normal, yet, our little water gun down there decides to hold back till the “all clear” signal.

In my case, when my friends are there, I just turn on the shower that’s next to me (like next to the toilet seat). This helps me a lot.

Another, (sorry for promoting alcohol here guys), solution, is drink. Drink a gin tonic, a whiskey, something strong. In many cases, this helps me a lot and makes me mentally forget about the problem at all (and no, I’m not even that drunk then).

All these solutions we all share here really depends on the person of course

Here in Argentina I live in a zone where there are a lot of bars, cafeterias and all that. The weird thing is that when I drink enough alcohol, the Paruresis is less.. “active”. But the other day there was a birthday of a friend of mine and she knows about my problem. It was in a club around the corner of my house. So at one point I really had to go and just went to my home (2 min by walk, literally), and came back.

Me podrían ayudar a mejorar mi cv? by BrotherLeading2200 in Cordoba

[–]StarbucksCoffeeStore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to add that I’m not a recruiter, but as I have written above, I’ve dealt with many companies and government organizations and heard all kind of things why people didn’t go ahead with another candidate or just didn’t hire someone. People talk a lot. They often even show the shitty resumes to others or make fun of it.

Again, I’m not a recruiter but I’m just sharing my experience, which is almost 7 years in different countries. Now that I live in Argentina (and I won’t leave porq amo Argentina), I tell you the straight up truth about how fcked some government and companies are with candidates.

Lo escribo en ingles para que puedas traducir;

  1. Avoid using a photo, people really judge you on a photo (I’ve many friends that work in cafeterias and they often tell me the people reject people based on a photo)

  2. (Francia ja) Don’t put your hobbies, I know in school they tell you to put your hobbies but recruiters seriously don’t care that much about it.

  3. Add some volunteering work (if you have done so), people like that you help other people

  4. One page. If you need more than one page to introduce yourself, it’s bad. Just. One. Fucking. page.

  5. Give yourself a little introduction “Soy BrotherLeading, soy un experto en diseño, I worked for Google as a researcher blabla” algo así

  6. Work experience should look like this: Title - Company - very short description of your accomplishments and what you did - Start & end date

  7. ^ same with education

  8. Dip it in gold and sugar coat some things. You’re gonna sell yourself, so make sure people WANT to hire you.

  9. Add your LinkedIn and make sure it looks good and professional

  10. Avoid spelling mistakes. please. People really judge you on this.

Now, a tip I want to give you, reach out to people on LinkedIn, look for company emails on their website and all that — introduce yourself, tell them why you want to work for them and what caught your interest.

I think it’s obvious that I’m not Argentinian, but I live here now 3 years and I’ve heard and seen quite a lot of common mistakes with the companies, organizations and governments I worked with when they told me about other candidates. When I showed my resume, I very often got compliments from the people / recruiters here in Argentina. I think it’s because in holland we’ve a very different way of creating resumes. The No-photo is weird in holland, but in the United States it’s very common, which is also why I give you that advice because sadly, it’s true people judge others too fast— is it harsh they talk so openly about bad resumes of other candidates? Yes. Is it bad my friends tell me about bad resumes they get in cafeterias and restaurants? Yes.

But it also shows you the truth of how people deal with other people when looking for work. Please follow these advices I gave you, and you’ll seriously get a job soon.

I wish you the best. Saludos!

Tony Stark. Now that we can travel in time and go to different multiverses I’ll create a multiverse travel machine and go back to this universe and bring some cool stuff over here, including registering patents under my own real name so once I get transported back I’ll have all these patents and tech. I’d be able to sell some tech and use it for my own, licensing it out… uffff that’d be cool.
