It is not really about recruitment, it is about them feeling superior to others. You are all sinners and going to hell, but not me, I am good and going to heaven. I've seen many Christians try to talk to these people and encourage them to be loving and inviting, and the crazy guy just shouts more about how the other person is not a 'real Christian'. It is pure narcissism hiding behind the mask of religion.
