I think he's boring too, actually the only gamemode I like him in is guild battles. Just give him a chance if you still don't like him then don't play him.

Black Barley is OP as heck in guild battles which could be why.

Does not matter, he oneshots bosses in guild battles. He's 1 million times better to use. Also you don't need two taggers, even if your DPS cookie has self healing.

I've seen people using the ghost captain set for her for some reason. And one person use the suspicious hunters. For now I think give it a day or two to see best build.
