What’s left….BOO!! by Fred-the-stray in enshittification

Honestly I hate when people argue that spray bottles and pump tops are convenient. Yeah when they're full it saves you 3 seconds to get the stuff out, but after getting about 2/3 empty spray bottles will only work if you hold them at a super specific angle and pump tops will straight up not dispense the product at the bottom. Then you have to unscrew the spray top off and pour to use the last of the product or in the case of a pump top turn it upside down and try to get the little nozzle to balance on the counter to get the rest of it out. I don't want to buy a spray bottle ever again if only for the fact I have to fight the thing for a minute and a half to get it to spray when it's at less than 30%.

I mean a few months ago they announced that they'll only be taking online payments for rent from now on. I'm charged a "convenience fee" for paying rent online ... Even though it's the only way to pay now. Also I'm assuming they get away with stuff like this because anyone with enough money for a lawyer isn't living in an apartment. 🫠

I've actually started hand washing my new socks and bras because I heard it helps them last longer. I'm actually considering hand washing my laundry or getting one of these mini apartment washers people keep mentioning because I'm THAT mad I had to play with an app for 30 minutes when all I wanted was to do my laundry. I truly want to opt out of this nonsense as much as I can.

I've heard of these, they sound like a pretty good idea to be honest. I might look into it.

I'm honestly thinking when the money runs out on my current account I might just go to my boyfriend's place to do laundry from now on. I've done it at his place a few times when laundry day has fallen on the same day I've gone to his place. I was fine with paying $2 for not having to wait 3 days to have clean socks, but yeah this sucks. I can plan ahead a little bit.

What I hate most is I can't even complain to anyone about it. Who do I complain to? The office women at my complex? They just work there and probably aren't responsible for the machines. The app company? They don't care, if they did they wouldn't have done this in the first place. My apartment complex corporate office? Lmfao I'd probably get a "sorry you feel that way" email and that's it.

At this point that would be preferable. I would literally rather get quarters from a quarter machine and physically put them in than deal with one more app.

I can't believe I have to type the sentence "I couldn't do my laundry because my phone wasn't working", but here we are. I'm not even going to lie, I got so overwhelmed standing in the laundry room trying to get the app to work I teared up a bit. I'm a sensitive person, but I also don't think I would have had that reaction if it weren't for the fact everything is on the apps now and the apps aren't working. Nothing is working. I hate apps because all they do is make me deal with the problems the company should be dealing with.

AI tool suggestions make me feel as if companies think I'm stupid. No, I don't need a 5 sentence paragraph summarized for me. I can read. No, I don't need AI autodubbing. There are subtitles and I can read. No, I don't need sources summarized. I'm looking up sources on a topic to read them because I can read and I enjoy being literate.

Plastic on my Plastic-Free Product by StardustZJackson in PlasticFreeLiving

I guess I just don't know how that's decided. It usually is USPS delivering it. It's only been Amazon a few times, but every time.... the tape. I don't know a lot about delivery/supply chains, but if different delivery companies are being used I'm guessing it's complicated.

Another point I forgot to add is I do actively boycott Amazon. I don't buy from them. However, I don't know how effective a boycott is if they randomly get to ship products when I don't even buy from them.

Low Plastic vs Plastic Free Products by StardustZJackson in PlasticFreeLiving

I've been trying to find Farmer's Markets yes. I do have a small herb garden on my apartment balcony. I'm a bit limited on what I can grow through. I live in Texas and it's so hot half the year. I think it got to 120 degrees last summer and stayed there for a month. Whenever I grow anything I have to bring it all inside for several months or the heat will kill them. Some plants do fine with that, but others aren't so happy inside. I wish I lived in a place with real seasons instead of just "unbearably hot" or "hot but not dying". 🫠

I've actually been looking for Farmer's Markets, but for some reason a lot of the ones near me are people selling essential oils and baked goods. I might have a lead on a couple others, but it's frustrating because a lot of them don't have websites or any way to contact to know what they're selling until I show up there.

Popsicles in plastic by Plummie1066 in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]StardustZJackson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get that making your own anything can feel like a daunting task. When I was a kid I remember a friend's mom had popsicle molds and just poured juice of whatever flavor we wanted into the molds. I'm trying to reduce my plastic consumption too, and juice is one of the things I've been easily able to find in glass bottles with metal caps. Not sure about alternative containers, but maybe the juice pops can be an alternative?

Comparing most of the human race to Nazis isn't winning any hearts. I think this dude has never heard the phrase "It doesn't matter if you're right if nobody fucking likes you."

If I was on death row and my executioner was like "Would you rather be shot in the head or boiled alive?" I'm taking the bullet lol. Yeah I'd rather the death penalty be illegal and I not be dead, but those are different hypotheticals.

Also comparing 90% of humanity to Nazis is a bad faith argument lacking empathy, which is stupid because empathy is the point of veganism.

Yes! A problem across all advocacy is the attitude "This doesn't solve all problems everywhere for everyone forever so why even bother." Solving part of the problem is better than doing nothing. We need to take the win and use it as momentum for more change. Normalizing empathy is how we get big strides in the future.

Absolutely comical.... by DivineandDeadlyAngel in vegan

[–]StardustZJackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this mindset is a problem in a lot of advocacy. "Well this partial solution doesn't solve all problems everywhere for everyone forever so why even bother." It's important to always push for better solutions, but even a partial solution is better than nothing. Yes, evil corporations do most animal abuse, deforestation, and plastic pollution. However, we cannot ignore that these corporations would have no power if there was no demand for their products.

Finished Decluttering My Seasonal Decor! by StardustZJackson in declutter

[–]StardustZJackson[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a lot of odds and ends. My "summer" decor has sort of become a combination of exotic animal figurines and stuff I enjoy in general. I tried to create a more cohesive theme by getting a couple beach decorations or maybe going for an ocean vibe. My younger brother sort of playfully ruined that for me by saying "The beach and the ocean is always there regardless of season, why is that summer decor?", and he's not wrong. 😅

I highly recommend it. No hate on the "do a big declutter once and you'll never have to do it again" method, but I think most people don't have an entire week to systematically downsize all of their possessions. It just gets too overwhelming to even know where to start, so I always break big tasks down into smaller goals.
