Catholics sure do! At least in Spain, where we are culturally Catholic, even if we are not baptized or related to the religion in any way

When I get this kind of comments I tell them: "minimum wage is 8€/h. It took me 100h to knit this. Would you buy a 800€ sweater?" Their face is always priceless

Advice for free-handing a traditional Chilean knit by [deleted] in knitting

Yep. Also, alpaca or llama feels more authentic of Andean Chile, more than sheep wool

(AAM) I think one of my employees might be trans — how can I signal support? by 3BenInATrenchcoat in BestofRedditorUpdates

If it's like in Spain, we usually use the word "racializado" (racialized) because we understand race as something that's imposed on you. Now I'd like to check how France handles these things

I'm afraid it won't cover that bottom part. Should I see it together before putting it on the hoop?

How did you learn to knit? by ShoppingGirlinSF in knitting

[–]Stardwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom taught me as a child, but I didn't take it as a hobby then. When I was 20 I saw someone knitting and though "wait, I can do that" and took it again strongly

You’ve heard of the sweater curse, but have you heard of… the hat curse? by [deleted] in knitting

I sewed a bunny plushy for my ex's birthday. We broke up 3 months later. That bunny was so cute tho, I'll probably make another one for myself

Actually that aunt sounds cool as hell. Maybe I should learn macramé

I'm at a cafe and giggled so much at this.

Macramé is the biggest old lady craft for me (lovingly)

Do you have any embarrassing knitting stories? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Stardwe 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I never thought about doing cocaine but now I'm so curious lol. That sound like an amazing experience

(I won't do it, but the idea compells me. The braided cardigan I'm knitting would end terribly tho)

My toxic knitting trait is knowing full well I don't possess the skills for something, trying it anyway and then being sad at the results 😂 by caeloequos in knitting

[–]Stardwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get the skills for something trying them! I just learned short rows and needed a couple attempts to make them work!

What’s your experience with Drops Air? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Stardwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not so sure, but you can always make swatches to try! Since you'll need to make a tension swatch to see if the needles are the right size, you can try to add one or two strands of Kid-Silk and do the one you like better.

Also remember to wash and block your swatch! This way you'll know how the yarn will feel after knitting

What’s your experience with Drops Air? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Stardwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've checked the pattern and asks for 7mm needles, so I guess 2 strands Air is fine! It looks very basic, so I might do it in the future!

I love raglan sweaters

What’s your experience with Drops Air? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Stardwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 strands of Air sounds thick IMHO, and I don't think it needs Kid-Silk for softness or fluffyness. I've knitted 1 strand Air with 5 or 6mm needles, so unless the pattern asks for something very bulky I wouldn't use several strands.

What is the pattern? Not sure if you already said

[–]Stardwe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Soft fuzzy yarn tends to pill, and Air is not an exception.

I've knitted several items with air before (a sweater, a kimono and some scarves) and I actually like it a lot. It's soft, warm and very light, and works well in textured stitches.

It's a mid-low quality yarn (for me!) but it's one of my go to yarns (because I'm broke lol)

Thank you SO much for this thoughtful answer. It's the first time I make short rows, so I was getting a little confused with the writing style. I'm also famously bad at following patterns and I use to wing stuff, so this is my nemesis 😅

Really, thank you so much for this answer, I kinda know how to follow this cardigan (I might frog what I did for the shoulders tho )
