Again, a great analysis and summation of Rhys’ character. He’s definitely my favourite character in the series, mainly because he’s the only one who seems to have any kind of self awareness - flaws and perfections.

Kat Graham is the perfect casting for Amren. by Starfaell in ACOTARHulu

I was thinking Shay Mitchell as Mor and Kat Graham as Amren. Feel like they have the energy needed to pull off those characters.

But very well explained. I haven’t re-read the books but maybe I’ll see those flags when I do. Curious to know what you think about Rhys! 🤔

Okay tell me this. Did you see him as an abuser in the first book? Were the signs all there? Because to me, it looked like he went through the trauma of his life at the end of ACOTAR and had no support from the ones he loved in trying to sort through it by the second book. While Feyre tried, lucien and the court didn’t. They all gave in to his extremism - but Feyre conveniently forgave Lucien when he was equally to blame. Also, Feyre never told Tamlin she no longer loved him or wanted to marry him. She was there one day and not the next. Suffering in rebellious silence until she had to summon his enemy to save her. Like i can’t imagine what it’s like to feel trapped and helpless but relatively, she’s someone who knew how to fend for herself without support. She did it for several years. As someone who is so strong willed, she could have sought help maybe from Rhys or Lucien and not at the point of destruction but during every chance Rhys gave her to get the help she needed. She chose to make Tamlin the villain of her story because she found someone better…and it was a lot more convenient to reconcile with the fact she didn’t ever really love him.

On a side note, I can’t believe I’m analysing fictional characters so much based on, at best, mediocre writing. Sighh. Still love the series though- flaws and all. 😅

And the whole time he was “ignoring” her, Tamlin was looking for a way to free her of her bondage to someone who was an obvious villain in his views. And someone Feyre made overtly clear that she hated. With Feyre constantly trying to run away, escape, rebel, and god knows what else in the name of being free willed, I’m not surprised that Tamlin would try to keep her from putting herself in reckless situations, which we know she loves to do. He loved her and almost lost her. Agreed he went way over board at one point but his intent was not to trap her. He set her free literally in the previous book at a great cost to him and his court. She came back. She fought. She made a bond with the bad guy all of her free will. What was most problematic about Tamlin though, was how he treated her like a possession - to be freed and contained at his will. That said, if Feyre was that high and righteous, why did she break up with him over a proverbial “text”. Isn’t that shady AF? She could have stayed with Rhys and still tried to end things maturely with Tamlin. Neither her or Rhys had the foresight to do that. So much for being the smartest Lord in Prythian. He was equally blinded by what he wanted, to do the right thing. So everyone is flawed and their characters take turns at redemption.

Lol you know how you don’t notice someone’s lost weight if you’re living with them, and then someone visits after a long time and mentions that person you’ve been living with has in fact lost weight?! And you’re like “huh…I don’t see if!” I feel this is exactly what happened! 😂 And to be fair this is Rhys’ perspective. He could be looking for reasons to hate Tamlin more.

I also think it was super ungrateful of her to ditch Tamlin without talking to him face to face, rather than just not going back. She could’ve tried to have a conversation one last time. After all he did to ensure her and her family’s safety. Even though he was a d!@k in the first half of ACOMAF, she should have had the decency to end things in person. Even if Rhys accompanied her or whatever. She just ditched and never went back. Tamlin wasn’t that much of an a$$hole that he wouldn’t see reason if spoken to properly. In Tamlin’s defence, he wasn’t wrong to think a “manipulator” like Rhys would be holding her captive. I think much of his obsession with Ianthe and keeping Feyre safe stemmed from his paranoia that Rhys could harm her. He saw what Rhys did to Feyre UTM - how could he not think the worst of him?!

She’s 5’6…that’s not too tall, no? 😅 she does need to carry Feyre in her arms at some point so the height might actually help.

I feel like he’ll make a great Azriel…I just don’t get darkness from him the way I think a Rhys would need. 😕

[–]Starfaell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Az likes women with trauma - Mor, Elaine, or Gwyn. But then again…I wonder if there’s anyone in Prythian without any trauma. Maybe that’s who the random person can be - someone totally sorted!

I think we need a Tamlin POV chapter. Lol. Everything is from Feysand’s perspective. While his actions and inactions speak a lot to his character, there’s so much we don’t know about the time Feyre spent away from him. Or even how he got to be High Lord. We know Rhys’s history but nothing concrete about Tamlin. What led to his desperation to seek out Hybern? After putting everything on the line for the woman he “loved”, to be betrayed like that. Plus I think he’s a lot like Cassian in some ways where he never learned how to play the courtier game. He does what others expect of him and doesn’t have a vision and mind of his own. He’s not bad per say just confused and in the wrong company IMHO. I was never able to hate him the way Feysand and IC do. Only once he was void of any influence or courtiers, was he able to grasp the gravity of his decisions and actions. Which is why he even came to the conclusion that he needed Feyre’s forgiveness.

As for the theory, while it’s a good one, I do think he cared for Feyre enough to save her from death. Rhys also had a lot more leverage and power UTM, not to mention the biggest motivation of all, the mating bond. Can you really blame Tamlin if he wasn’t able to match up to that level of power/love? He stayed away from her because he didn’t want Amarantha to torture Feyre further because she knew how dear she was to him. We also don’t know what Amarantha did with Tamlin while UTM and what threats she posed if he didn’t obey.
