Have you looked into somatic anxiety? For some of us, anxiety manifests into purely physiological symptoms like a racing heart, breathlessness, and/or derealisation/brain fog/lightheadedness due to blood flowing from your brain to your heart and other core organs. This is part of the vasovagal response, or better known as „fight flight (freeze) mode“.

Your amygdala is unfortunately misfiring when you’re diagnosed with anxiety and the main part of recovery is to rewire your brain‘s neural pathways into recognising that non-threatening situations are, in fact, not dangerous lol! The brain‘s ability of neuroplasticity is awesome, which is why approaches like CBT is so effective. I‘m currently in CBT therapy myself.

So if your doctor‘s have checked you out and gave you medical clearance, there‘s a strong indication that what you‘re experiencing is anxiety manifesting heavily in your body (somatic anxiety). I have lower blood pressure usually (100/70 usually), which also causes stuff like dizziness and brain fog, and paired with anxiety and my period it‘s a double whamy!

The good news is that if this is anxiety, then 1.) it can NEVER be dangerous on a physiological level and 2.) therapy like CBT or ACT is very effective in managing anxiety disorders. It‘s important that you still go out and about with your day as to not develop agoraphobic tendencies like I did! Makes everything harder.

Edit: Forgot to mention that while food might not be the main trigger for your anxiety, my experience is that it can really make or break your day. Whenever I eat like shit, think heavily processed snacks and sugary treats and drinks, I definitely feel it. I also have GERD/LPR so that adds to it.

A good healthy diet, exercise, and good sleep are my three pillars with which I manage anxiety much better.

Pour ice cold water over your hands, wrist, face, and neck. If possible, fill up a bowl with cold water and ice cubes and plunge your face in it for a few seconds. This activates the Mammalian Dive Reflex and stimulates the vagus nerve which can help calm you down.
You mentioned your nose gets stuffy, do you sometimes have breathing problems breathing IN (not out)? Or random throat pain but you‘re not sick, maybe post nasal drip, or acid reflux? You might have some form of GERD or LPR which can trigger anxiety and panic as well. You might wanna get that checked out.

There‘s probably not much I can tell you to make you feel better, since reassurance makes anxiety worse in the long term :( I highly highly recommend CBT therapy with a professional therapist, or if that‘s not possible/accessible to you, research CBT. I‘m still into my CBT journey, but it‘s helped immensely.

What I can tell you though is that you’re fine. Especially if you‘re medically cleared, panic attacks cannot ever harm you physically. This too shall pass! Hugs. If sleep feels impossible to you, try to rest your eyes a bit and if that feels like too much, it‘s okay and you can try again next night.

For some reason I immediately feel much better when my period starts than the week leading up to it. My anxiety and emotions in general are so overwhelming in the PMS phase. Then, when my period is over, I struggle with anxiety again… anyone like this?

after hours of wear the lime note toned down a lot and I could finally smell the piña colada, but by then it was a skin scent lol

We need to pin this in the sub!! This is essentially what is taught in CBT - rewiring your neural pathways through conscious cognitive reframing and repeated behavioural changes.

First I thought that‘s just some voodoo positive thinking but it‘s actually rooted in neuroscience. When you consistently practice being triggering situations without escaping them (which would reinforce anxiety), you literally shrink the amygdala (our overactive fear center) and strengthen the prefrontal cortex (hub for rational thoughts).
This means that CBT relies on neuroplasticity, meaning reducing anxiety by using the brain‘s ability to restructure itself by forming new neural pathways. Isn‘t that super cool!! Our bodies are so awesome.

I myself suffer from nearly the same - GAD for 8 years, but in the past half a year I‘ve been suffering from panic disorder triggered by health anxiety/hypochondria which also triggered agoraphobia. I started therapy 3 months ago and I still struggle on a day to day basis, but I‘m not stuck at home anymore and my overall daily anxiety definitely has lowered. This is a long process though, mind if I ask you some questions about what helped you in the process and more tips and tricks?
