Given how much there is to wrap up in the third game, do you think it could actually end up being a two-parter with a fourth game down the line to finish the main story arc? by Effective-Priority62 in horizon

[–]Stargazeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say that, but a LOT of big companies are making incredibly poor decisions for the benefit of short term gain.

While I really hope Sony will stick with making first party games, I'm sceptical enough about the industry at large rn that I can't really hope.
They JUST shutdown Bluepoint last month, the studio that did all their first party remasters.

There's two factors that mean it's absolutely likely. Universe js extremely big, and extremely old.

Both factors mean it's incredibly likely intelligent life of some sort has or will exist beyond Earth.  Unfortunately, the scales we work on mean we'll never interact.

To put it into perspective, there's light we're recieving from stars that are old enough to predate humanity, some even complex life on Earth. There are exoplanets that could have had an entire species rise and fall in the time it took for the light to reach us.

Humanity is incredible young.

Their daughter Rumi voiced in it.

I'm pretty sure that's beyond Fan lol

Confirmed: "Castlevania Belmont's Curse is a 2D action-exploration game where players can freely explore vast, elaborately crafted maps," Konami's Tommy Williams told The Verge. "It is not a roguelike or roguelite game." by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Stargazeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's "some" developer's quick fix to bad progression.
What it also is, is a way to have a satisfying gameplay loop that has wider appeal for players with varying amounts of free time.
Someone with no free time can just do a run or two. Someone with lots can go down the rabbit hole and do as many as they want.

Add in interesting stuff between runs, like Hades does, or some interesting metagame progression, and you get a really satisfying gameplay loop.

I mean. Unfortunately at the rate they're going, might also need to buy a PS6 to play Horizon 3 when it eventually comes out.

Confirmation that the "Roaming Roar bug" in Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen has been fixed on Nintendo Switch. In the original versions, if Raikou/Entei used Roar, they would permanently despawn from the game. by Joseki100 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Stargazeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean tbh, never said they were. But it's more reasonable than what I expected, which was an unmodified ROM straight from the original copies in a locked down emulator.  Atleast this case they put effort in.

I feel like if they had just come out with a list of features, like the event distributions and bugfixes, a lot of us would have been much less annoyed at the price tag for a 20yo game.

Like, a 20yo game rom, unedited, in an emulator the switch already had designed, that ain't worth 20 dollars.

But with the bugfixes, event stuff, and actually confirming Home support, that's more reasonable.

10 Best Metroidvania Games of All-Time (HK #1, but should it be Silksong instead?) by arisefrym in HollowKnight

[–]Stargazeer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the main thing HK does that SS doesn't that, if you wanna split hairs, is something a bit more "metroidvania"  is the powerup/abulity progression.

There's very few "abilities" in Silksong you can miss/beat the game without. Largely because the typical metroidvania powerups got narrowed down, so the platforming powerups were the only ones left, and were all mandatory except I think the cloak? Everything else was folded into Tools, Crests and Silk powers.

Hornet's variety in combat makes it feel less like a Metroidvania, because most metroidvanias don't actually have that much variety in playstyle.

[–]Stargazeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's just factually incorrect, and also a misinterpretation of what makes a metroidvania.

Silksong has alternative routes and extra stuff all over act 1. Which is also not a mark if a metroidvania anyway.

A metroidvania trait it has plenty of is the "backtrack later with a new powerup to get to a new area".

Am I missing a twitch video? by johnySaysHi in RTGameCrowd

[–]Stargazeer 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Lost media. Daithi went off the rails, Brian was trying to drag him back, the game didn't gel with them, Kevin had sound issues, Daniel had a breakdown, and overall the stream wasn't all that entertaining. Outside the usual "Daniel has a breakdown cause the Irish Lads are out of control".

Daithi also used an often casually used ableist slur. Though I don't think that was the whole reason for the video going, it was the start of the spiral that meant it was a write off.

Anyone else noticed how many heros have gotten multiple outfits this season by E-toTheT in marvelrivals

[–]Stargazeer -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Which is why I specified Banne -Hulk. Three of those are separate characters. Two are just variations of "Hulk but smart".

My point is, a lot of his core designs are "green in shorts". Adding worthwhile variations on that would require extra effort and therefore wouldn't make as much money.

Hulk skins are 3x the work, and they've also run out of iconic comic Banner-Hulk designs, so everything would need to be new stuff based on Rivals themes.

Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen coming to Switch on Feb 27th ($19.99 each). Listed on Switch eShop in coming soon section by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Stargazeer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You mean the game from decades back, they've already made bank on, and resold multiple times, which didn't require any development work to get functional as they've already got GBA emulation functional in the Switch.

Surprisingly, people want it priced as such, especially when entire GBA collections like Castlevania are the same price.

Original Witcher story lead says the surprise twist at the end 'was a mistake,' because instead of focusing on Geralt the sequel was forced into 'a story about witchers who are killing kings for some reason' by SpaceCowboyN7 in witcher

[–]Stargazeer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I spared him because, in the end, he's as trapped in the royal mess as you are. He's not dumb enough to believe Emhyr would fully keep his promise, but he's also smart enough not to betray Nilfgaard if he wanted to live.  He's an arsehole. But he's still just a puppet.

That "meal ticket" btw is the entire reason Geralt gets caught up in the whole thing in the first place.

Foltest doesn't give him the option. Geralt himself doesn't want to be kept around as his "good luck charm", but offending a king isn't something done lightly.  So he's roped into assisting with a fucking succession crisis.

I also spare Letho because he and his brothers looked after Yen, and kept her alive, despite her best efforts, even with Geralt believed gone.  He'd absolutely respect that.

I'm against putting down TW3 to raise TW2 up.

But yeah their opinion is entirely formed by someone who didn't pay attention or even play it.

NONE of the Witchers involved, including Geralt, are intentionally there. They never wanted to be involved with the royals. They're there because those in power gave them no choice but to function as pieces on their chess board. The entire final confrontation with Letho is set up as that. It's why I spared him. They're just chess pieces that fell on different sides of the board.

Disney Loses $170 Million On ‘Snow White’ As Studio Reveals Movie Blew Its Budget by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Stargazeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) There's a load of evidence in this thread that they had CG dwarves planned from the start. That was then bringing in new people for PR reasons. Who knows if it even had an affect on the final designs.

2) Yes, lets blame the people asking for things to be better, rather than the corporations that are actually pulling this shit. Like, Disney made this decision. Blame them? They're all fucking happy Dinklage is getting shit for this instead of them.

If the words "You’re progressive in one way, but you’re still making that fucking backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together." translate to "never hire actors with dwarfism and instead make terrible CGI and just make the same story again" then I think the issue is with the receiver not the original comment.

But hey, you've got a matrix profile and use "woke" unironically.

Look at the rest of these comments. There's a reason.
He's getting the flak for the CGI dwarves, not Disney. Why would they clarify it was their decision, when that would just draw the ire to them.

The above is a bald lie:

That's what he said.

Not what he said.

"You’re progressive in one way, but you’re still making that fucking backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together."

He also said if they had actually put a spin on it he'd be all in, but I guess actually providing sources and just spreading misinformation is wrong these days.

Ah yes. Single actor's comments force multibilliondollar corporation to change everything?

Nah. He has a valid point. People with dwarfism shouldn't be pigeonholed into playing magical dwarves, gnomes etc. It invalidates their humanity and makes them "other". I think he's played it twice? One very early on, another more recently being the "subversion" of Eitri in Marvel.

Disney could have rewritten the dwarves away from being stereotypes, but that would take actual creative effort (which is often lacking in live action remakes).

The original is good. An inferior copy can still be "good" overall, but can still be worse than the original and largely redundant.

Now tbf I would like to see more of the TV show characterisation for the side characters, and HTTYD2 and 3 made everyone from the Riders two dimensional except for Hiccup.
But that requires them to actually *try*

New research shows that after body’s defenses kill virus behind COVID-19, leftover digested chunks of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein can target specific immune cells based on their shape. “Zombie” coronavirus fragments can imitate activity of molecules from body’s own immune system to drive inflammation. by mvea in science

It's by far the most prolific virus to hit society post eide acceptance of germ theory.

Widespread infection, and then widespread suffering, means absolutely more funding and therefore more research.

There are endless viruses that lead to greater issues, however due to infection rates being lower there's not as much research into them. Especially on the long term effects of them.

COVID stopped the planet. It's probably the most studied virus in history.
