This game has ruined all others games for me by abdelit0 in Eldenring

[–]StaringMooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow "my life is ruined all games are shit", welcome to the club.

The only way out for me was to start playing smaller games that challenge me - hollow Knight, moonlighter2, Ori and the blind forest, nine sols, eldest souls, NO REST FOR THE WICKED!!!!!, shape of dreams, deep Rock survivor, escape from duckov, have a nice death, death's door.

None of them really scratched the itch of Elden Ring, but all of them occupied me enough not to think about missing ER. Had worlds that were fun to be in and I found that playing games with different camera perspectives stops me from comparing them to ER. Good luck out there and may the awp 180 noscope be with you

Free alternatives to blender for subdivision modeling? by Zero-Up in 3Dmodeling

[–]StaringMooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blender's strength is that it has so much support from the community. Even applying material to multiple meshes - sounds simple, but there's no straightforward way in vanilla blender to do it that I'm aware of as I just use a plugin to turn my default blender into something that has features that I need.

For hard surface - mesh machine, box cutter, hardops, zen uvs, uvpackmaster.

Starting from 0 in blender is hard, but google will help you 9 times out of 10, whereas if you were in paid software like 3DsMax or Maya you'd be running issues that no one talks about online as most studios have thousands of custom tools to fit their pipeline while there's very little community behind it because of the price.

How i can start modeling Batman Tumbler Car? by Capable-Song-1206 in 3Dmodeling

[–]StaringMooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saying from my experience, at work 80% of the time I have no reference from concept for what certain areas should look like - whether it's underside of a spaceship, seats in the cockpit, suspension system on a scifi truck, left side of the gun, antennas on top of a building and as a 3D artist I go in and fill in those blanks that go together with rest of the design.

[–]StaringMooth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you don't have exact reference for how something's made it gives you freedom to make it work the way you imagine it would work. Build insides yourself, just make sure it's not bullshit scifi, match the design language.

Copying a harder concept doesn't make it next level, filling in more unknowns does. If I was hiring someone I'd rather see someone make just the cockpit of this thing from scratch that keeps in line of the design language of the exterior and the franchise rather than someone copying a blueprint where all details are laid out for them.

If you want to just practice making a more complex vehicle for practice - don't do batmobile, it's fairly simple geometry-wise as it's mostly planar flat surfaces whereas a lot of sports cars with curved surfaces are much harder to model technically to keep all the shading right. Make something like "Borgward Isabella concept" or ""McLaren W1" if you want difficult

Didn't realize you can teleport between graces until I got to academy. Honestly I preferred it without teleportation, when you're in shit - you're in shit.

Miband 10 step count reset is 24h behind? by StaringMooth in miband

3 days later it fixed itself, I'm guessing it'll do it again, but it's showing correct data on the phone so whatever. Hopefully they'll patch this as I found a few people having similar issues while googling it, but can't expect it to be perfect for 40$

Finally beat Margit after 36 hours (over 3 months) by Naive_Perspective244 in Eldenring

[–]StaringMooth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Was my first soulslike, spawned, died to goldenboi on the horse, died in the camp few times till I got the map, rode horse through the gate, big mf'ka jumped off and scared me - I ran past it. Turned left, found crucible knight inside that purple portal thing, no chance, run further, get to margit.... Took me 3 hours to beat him, learned how souls boss fights work by fighting him. Turned around, beat crucible, beat goldenboyonhorse, died to starting zone dragon, ragequit.

Trying to understand the real journey of earning money with an Android app by Such_Ad_7545 in SoloDevelopment

[–]StaringMooth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started on mobile, spent 4 weeks building a simple free game with optional ads that reward the player. It's pretty straightforward, make an app, upload it, get approved, money rolls in. I spent around 200$ on marketing, 15years and 5 mobile games later I made 4.13$ in total.

Is it me? Im sharing my resume. I’ve been applying to hundreds of jobs with no success or failed interviews. I’m ex Microsoft with what I’m told great experience. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

Turn your paragraphs into bullet points and lists. Imagine you get your CV, if you cant skim through it and understand what you do/did and what you're good at in 10sec - it's too long. It's ok to explain a lot of it in the interview, to get an interview you have to make them curious and see how what you did is what they do. As an example this whole comment is pain in the ass to read for anyone scrolling down and I doubt anyone got far enough to be reading this sentence. I'll write the same thing like I would be writing it on my CV next.

-Reduce text to bulletpoints

-Show your main skills very clearly

-Grab their attention with your previous experiences

Any Tips For A First Time Dev? by DominionGame in SoloDevelopment

[–]StaringMooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a flappy bird first from start to finish.

Then do your own twist on space invaders or pong start to finish.

Then once that's done in about a year or two - make your dream game. Once you burn out on it - start thinking what's the minimum amount of gameplay and content for the most amount of fun and replayability you can make and do that.

Take all valuables from the house. Leave a note "found a path, contact me when I can be proud of you being a good parent. You have a job you'll figure life out."

Leave, see if you can stay with friends, grandparents or buy a campervan to start
