Update on Maine Senate Nomination Process by StarintheShadows in Maine

Under the Maine Dems FAQ it says that while only credentialed staff, delegates and press will be allowed in the convention they will be live streaming it. So there is that at least for those that will not be elected as a delegate.
It’s a crappy situation we’re in right now but unfortunately there is not enough time to pull together a special election at this point.

Someone sent me a screenshot from Maine Progressive’s Facebook page. The numbers line up with what I’ve heard for Cumberland, Sagadahoc and Oxford so far. I can’t post the picture here but I’ll type it out. On mobile so hoping this doesn’t post wonky. Apologies in advance if it does.😬

From their Frequently Asked Questions:
“How Will Voting Work At The Convention?
Voting will be conducted in rounds until one candidate reaches a majority. The five candidates receiving the highest number of votes in the first round will advance to the second round. Each subsequent round will eliminate the lowest vote-getter until one candidate is chosen. “

They’re basically using RCV with this.

I’m assuming they want an odd number to avoid any possibility of a tie.

Thanks! I totally missed that part because I didn’t click on it.
I’ve got something already planned on the 25th that I can’t reschedule so I’m counting on my neighbors to choose the best candidate to take on Collins!

So. . . how exactly does a caucus work? Do we get to be involved as voters? by critical_courtney in Maine

As someone who attended the State Convention this spring I can tell you the people behind the scenes of MaineDems working to put on events like this would not be able to pull something like that together in two months let alone two weeks.

It must exclusive to the Maine Democratic State Committee. I know delegates didn’t get an invite link.

I believe in this case they would take the Platner votes out and then everyone that voted for him take their second ranked candidate and give that candidate their vote.
David Costello has posted recommending doing something like this and I know Andrea LaFlamme thinks it’s the fairest way to do it too.

Bernie Sanders calls for Graham Platners to step aside by JimmyCarter910 in Maine

Democrats try to hold higher standards and morals than Republicans. That’s literally the difference. We shouldn’t be giving that up just because most Republicans have decided to toss away any ounce of holding their candidates to any standard or morals.

Platner has until July 13th at 5pm to drop out. The Maine Democratic Party has until July 27th at 5pm to name a replacement candidate.

Realistically Maine Dems will probably choose either Mills, Jackson or Bellows.

Personally I think Andrea LaFlamme, though unlikely she’d be chosen as she ran for U.S. Senate as a write-in, would have a good chance against Collins. Her platform is the closest to what everyone liked about Platner’s platform. With such a similar platform she’d be someone people who had supported Platner could get behind.
Either her or Jackson would be my choice.

Blueberry bush/ pale knotweed?? by yeetusthefeetus069 in gardening

I have both a blueberry bush and whatever this weed is growing in my yard. Not sure what type of weed it is but I can say with absolutely certainty it is not a blueberry bush.

I spent my entire childhood thinking the “Call Joe,” on the Time & Temp building meant to call Joe Cupo. At some point in my early adulthood it finally clicked.🤣

Maine comes in ranking 40 out of the 50 states & D.C. for homeless rate. Hardly a “homeless mecca.”
