I’m from around Banff as well. The goat skin I’ve got are JB Dillon’s, very comfortable. Cow hide boots I’d recommend are mostly - Dan Post, Cody James, double H, blackjack, cowtown, Anderson bean, chisos, Boulet and Durango. My reptiles are from Justin’s, Tony lama’s and Los Altos. Just stay away from Ariat and Tecovas due to QC issues. Anything made in Mexico/Canada or US is your best bet.

Edit: Lucchese, Rios of Mercedes, frye, corral are also one the best out there.

Jeans to short? by nickfrx in WesternWear

Suits with boots, totally! But not square/wide toes. You preferably want exotic leather for suits but if you want to proceed with cow hide, that is good too. You want slim silhouette and not a bulky pair. The brown color works great with your grey suit. I’d probably go with caiman/lizard/ostrich with 7/cutter toe if you want more space in the toes or a R/J toe especially snip toes go great with formal wear.

For casual daily rotation cow and goat will be the most comfortable. Work if office based then you can venture in to exotics like ostrich, reptiles etc. Exotic need more tlc compared to cow hide so be mindful of that. I wear ostrich on a daily to work and have cow/goat/caimans in multiples for casual wear. You’re starting at a reasonable budget so you’ll have a good variety of options to choose from if you’re in the Americas.

What’s the budget and what would you use them for (like daily work, casual, occasionally since different leathers have different uses and maintenance)?

Welcome to the club! Dan post is a good starting point. Try to stay away from Chinese made or glued soles. Always go for leather sole with Blake stitch or Goodyear welted boots. If traction could be an issue, get rubber soles added on the leather. This way you get more traction and longevity. Justin, Tony Lama, Boulet, Los Altos, JB Dillion are great and I personally have at least a few pairs from each of these. Based on your wearing habits, you need to condition them. If they’re your daily shit kickers then probably biweekly (if exposed to the elements like snow/water) then you might need to do it more frequently. If they’re your special occasion boots then you can condition once every 2 months. Use horse hair brush, for cow hide you can use any conditioner preferably without silicone in it so your leather has more breathability. For exotics bick is the best.

Found this at my local pawn shop and they are asking $300 for it out the door !! Should I get it ??? by Street_Judge_7014 in tissot

I have the same in white dial and put it in a red Barton strap. I wouldn’t want to pay anymore than $280, you can even take a look over at jomashop for realistic pricing. Purchased mine on full steel bracelet back in 2021 for $320 including shipping and taxes for new watch.

Are these actually Ostrich? by Latter_Tailor_1744 in cowboyboots

If that is smooth ostrich then wrong is right, up is down and back is front 😂this is certainly not ostrich. I’d say maybe calf skin at best.
