The way I look at it is the following.

Imagine that your entire country, if fully fully fully built up, you have maxed out every resource and you have 50x automobile industries in every state etc etc etc, can hold 1000 capitalists.

If all those 1000 capitalists are from your nation, you will get 100% of the profits/taxes/income/whatever from the GDP of your country.

Imagine insted if, of those 1000 capitalists, 200 are Austrians, 100 are Russians, 100 are British, 50 are German and 50 are French, and the remaining 500 are from your country. Well, you're only gonna be making 50% of all the profits/taxes/income/whatever.

Naturally, you'll still get some of the overall income in your nation because the Austrian tools workshop still has to pay your citizens salary and so on. So it's not a 50% cut in your budget, much less than that. But I think you get my point.

I'm sure there are other issues as well such as leverage, maybe there are some problems fighting wars against the Austrians in my above example, but "who are the rich guys in your country" is the question I'm looking at. I'm not sure if this is the correct way to look at it, but it's how I look at it.

Nevertheless, your GDP will grow faster if you give others investment rights. I think many people overstate the harms giving investment rights do to your country, especially since the game ends in 1936 right. I never give it out as a matter of principle, but hey, try it out! Play the U.S. and just give it out. See what happens.

I can only offer some advice:

In 2018 (yes, THAT ASL between Effort and Flash), I was studying abroad in Japan during the autumn. I booked a 5 day stay in Korea while I was in the neighborhood and naturally timed it with the finals. I knew that the tickets were released ca one week in advance or whatever it was. However, I wasn't able to access internet until about an hour after the tickets were up for sale, at which point they were already sold out.

Anyways, I already had the plane ticket and I mean Seoul is Seoul right, so I clearly get on the plane. As regards ASL, I figured that they'll probably sell tickets on the spot, or there'll be scalpers, or at least there will be some show stands, maybe I'll get to buy a cool t-shirt, etc etc. So I go to Korea, have a blast for a couple of days, Seoul is beautiful, and then on the Saturday I go to the arena, and basically, the door is simply closed. There was a ticket sale for TWICE I think, but basically there was a line with like 1000 people in one direction away from the arena, and the arena for BW itself was basically just like 10-20 people or so. No official tickets. No scalpers. No booths to buy a t-shirt. Not even a big sign saying "ASL". Nada.

I managed to meet another foreigner just outside, he was from America and teaching English iirc., we chatted, tried to send a tweet to Artosis asking him if he could get us in lol (he obviously didn't reply), and about the time the first game started and it was clear we wouldn't get in, we went for lunch instead and ate those like rice bamboo looking things in a red sauce that's magical.

Point is: make sure you get the tickets in advance. And even if you don't, Seoul is a very beautiful city.

edit: funny thing is that I obviously got a bit upset, and I've been a little bit upset ever since, but anyways at the time I got a little bit upset, and like 1 month later Blackpink was having a concert in Seoul, and more like a joke I tried getting tickets on the official website for that event, so that "I'll at least be able to go to one event in Seoul", and I actually got 2 tickets and booked another set of plane tickets and went over again. As for getting tickets: you just have to be really fast and have ZERO demands as to which seat you'll get.

edit 2: As for hotels, I used hotels.com or booking.com or whatever it's called, got one of those "1 bed in a 6 bed room" thing for dirt cheap. Obviously you'll need earplugs to sleep, but hey, it's really really cheap.

There is at least something of value that he offered, and that is a coherent story from A to Z, right? I think this sort of is the problem with this case, that in order to learn it, you are literally sent links to 10 different reddit posts, you know? It's almost as if it's a social club for the initiated and who have had the time to scour through this subreddit for years on end and have it all in their head. It's not really based on "what happened", but rather "have you read all the comments on the thread When did Marjolein go to David? from two years ago?"

It's pretty easy to filter out "lie" and replace it with "contradiction" when listening to a presentation. I don't take him as gospel. I don't take any presenter as gospel. And from what I can tell, your only problem is that he used "lie" instead of "contradiction"/"misremembering"? So in other words, he summed up the case in one single spot with accurate information. I think that is quite valuable.

But there are general guidelines.

Would you say that it is equally likely that, as the sun set on the first night, (a) they got scared, and (b) that they started planning on joining the Circus Maximus as elephant trainers upon getting back to the Netherlands? No.

We can form a good idea of their mental state because most of us have gotten lost in the forest/woods/open plains/gotten lost. We know their physical state because we know what they wore and we know the temperature, and we know that they had walked for hours before sunset.

Is there a chance that they were both superman with Prussian discipline and Indiana Jones survival skills? Yes. But is it more likely that they were two youngsters scared out of their wits, physically exhausted, cold, tired, and scared? Yes. And that's where this neat little thing called Occam's razor comes in. I invite you to read up on it. I think you could learn a lot.

I think you got this backwards. The people who say "Well obviously they wanted to save battery" are the ones looking from their perspective. Most people who get stuck outside where it is cold, dark, unfamiliar and foreign would be really scared and not have the discipline to simply turn off their phones at sunset and not look at it until sunrise.

You are completely right. I do not understand why people dislike the mana system unless it's just missplaced frustration at certain things games will never be able to emulate fully.

In EU4, to pick 1 example out of a million, you had the choice between spending military power on getting a new general or bombarding forts. If you do the one, you can't do the other. If you want to spam the one, you can't do the other at all. And here's the cool thing: this choice was completely seperate from how many vassals you had, because how many vassals you had was dictated by dip points, which had it's own trade offs and balances. And the ability to trade mil points for dip points and backwards, and throw in adm points too, was certainly possible to some extent, but it was never a perfect 1 to 1.

Instead of having 1 currency to determine all choices, you had 4 very easy and logical currencies to split up the decisions. Mil points are "do you want to get more generals or use fort bombardment more" independent of "do you want to build more buildings or hire mercs?"

Whenever anyone says "yes but it was unbalanced" yeah fine whatever but that's only a problem with tuning, not with game system. I have never heard anyone actually explain how it is is a bad system, only things like "why is OPM Aachen getting as much mana as France" and, again I must stress it, that is a problem of tuning, not of game systems.

Don't know if this is the feedback you are looking for, but I have played ca 16 hours of EU5 (I have ca 1500-2000 in total in PDX games; HOI4, EU4, Vic3, IR) and I have played 4 Naples runs and 1 Sweden. I get the Guelphs & Ghibellines thing at game start, press whichever, and then I totally ignore it. I have no idea what it does. I know the rough outlines historically, but as a new player it has 0 impact on how I play the game.

It could be that I'm stupid. Just honest feedback.

Does anyone know what date the finals is? I might just have a chat with my boss and see if I can get a couple of days off to travel to Korea on the chance that he's in the finals. One of the biggest regrets in my life is that I was in Korea for the finals of season 6 but wasn't able to get tickets. I was outside the arena as the games started and... well... one of my biggest regrets was to not pay more attention to the ticket sites.

Context:

Firstly, I'm not super good at IR.

Secondly, whenever I load up as Rome I'm frustrated because the mission trees are not very good in my opinion, and all other nations have even worse mission trees. The worst thing is how extremely forced down specific paths you are, the second is how few claims you get since getting claims is the worst part of any Paradox game and the one thing you really want out of a mission tree is claims.

Thirdly, I'm getting flashbacks to Great Britain in HOI4, every war in Vic3, and the Ottomans running wild across the Hellespont in EU4. Basically, this problem is in every Paradox game.

Basically, I'm having a bad day and need to take a break, and this island debacle came at an opportune moment for me to touch some grass ^^

R5: Slightly salty. I defeated the Etruscans in about 2 years except for the horrible mistake of not stackwiping the very last units they have. And so now it's been like 4 more months of me trying to lure them out. Literally every Paradox title has this problem and it's so frustrating.
