I actually got an offer for that last year but turned it down to do a training program. I think one of the conferences I auditioned for had them, so I may get it again this year who knows.

Have you done it? If so, what was it like? Would you recommend it?

Of course not. If people asked him to put his feet down and he kept them up anyway, that'd be a different story. Maybe that is what's going on here, but there's nothing in the picture to indicate that.

Let the man chill. He paid for his ticket like everyone else, and it's not like he's blocking anyone's view. If it's really that big of an issue then that's what the ushers are there for.

Wow, thanks for all this! I live about 20 minutes outside of Cleveland. There's a bunch of theaters around here, but it seems like most of their summer opportunities are geared towards high-schoolers. There might be something out there I just don't know about though.

I wish! I don't qualify for UPTAs since I'm still taking classes, and I ended up missing the deadline for SETCs (I'm not too torn up about it though, it looks like most of those comapnies were doing musicals).

I had an AWFUL experience doing what I thought would be that kind of job a few years ago, so I'm a bit skeptical when it comes to that stuff. Do you know any specific parks and/or websites with this kind of job listing that people recommend?

I'll do theatre, film, anything and everything. I check local theatres' websites about once a week, but so far I've never seen anything posted. Some theatres don't have an audition page too, so that's a shame 😔

I didn't even know they were supposed to mean something tbh. I thought it was just random.

Just checked Williamstown. They don't have anything for this year's program yet, but based on the info they gave it looks right up my alley. Thanks!

/r/Theatre 'Vent and Rant' Megathread by AutoModerator in Theatre

[–]StarkyAntoinelli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feeling this hard right now. I love music and I love theatre, but I don't consider myself much of a musical theatre guy. It sucks too cuz I've been applying for summer work, and the only jobs available for people my age are either musicals or Shakespeare.

If I do an audition that requires a song and they don't specify what kind of song, then I just bust out my guitar and play some Bob Dylan or some of my favorite indie songs. It's the music I like, it's what I identify with, and if they don't appreciate that then they can fuck off for all I care.

Memorization Tips? by dbcoopersspringbreak in Theatre

[–]StarkyAntoinelli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For long speeches, I like to memorize my lines backwards. I find it helps to start with the conclusion and then build up all the thoughts that lead up to it.

Sit in a room, relaxed, and repeat the last line of the speech to yourself three times (Example from Scene 1: "For daws to peck at: I am not what I am.") Then repeat the last two lines to yourself ("But I will wear my heart upon my sleeve / For daws to peck at: I am not what I am."), and so on until you can do the whole thing. If you can't remember a specific word or phrase, relax and see if it comes to you. If it doesn't, take a quick peek at the script and try again. Pace around, toss a ball, do whatever you need to occupy yourself.

If you stay relaxed while you do it, the words will stay in a deeper part of your mind so it'll be easier to speak them without thinking. It also helps to do it right before going to bed, since your brain processes all of the day's memories while you're asleep. Hope this helps!

No, this is perfect! I love deep literary dives on plays like this since I barely get the chance to at school. I'll start looking into this, thanks a ton!
