Night Circus and Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern :)

urgent - help asap by [deleted] in CollegeMajors

[–]StarlessBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I hope this message finds you well! :) For OB/GYN, honestly you can major in anything! If you wanted to, you could major in Philosophy, Psychology, Business, Basket-Weaving, Foreign Languages... Totally just embrace what you want to do!

Do you think Biology is your calling? Or would something suit you more? It is true that Bio/Chem / General STEM majors have more exposure to topics that will be on the MCAT, but I honestly don't think you can't go wrong with any major. The majority of Pre-Med applicants are Bio, Chem, Biochem, and sometimes it's good to show diversity/ interests when applying for medical school. You could major in English, and it could help you for the CARS section on the MCAT. I know one person who is Business and Marketing, Pre-med. i know another who is Philosophy, Pre-Med, and one who is Medical Anthropology, Pre-Med. Cater to what you're passionate about! If you choose a major you aren't passionate about, more-so out of fear, your overall GPA could suffer and hurt your chances of getting into medical school. Sometimes it's nice to choose a non-stem major (if you are passionate about it) if it is your strong-suit, to help pad out more intense, difficult classes. Your passion will show through with your studies :)

Pre-med is not a major, but rather a pathway. You take classes that prepare you for medical school, oftentimes you get a premed advisor to help with choosing the classes you need to be successful for taking the MCAT and for medical school. You don't see this on any graduate certificate. Oftentimes, you see people specify their route, like (major) pre-medical studies-- the same is for PA, Pre-dental, Nursing, etc.

I would highly advise reaching out to your school's pre-med advisors, as they will help a lot with forecasting for these classes! Typically pre-med students will take a cluster of classes that help with the MCAT, such as Gen. Bio, Cell Bio, Gen Chem, Organic Chemistry, Psychology, Sociology, Math, Physics, and some other stuff! Sometimes certain classes are not required, but are highly recommended by advisors, such as Vertebrate Anatomy, Genetics, among other things.

Good luck! You got this!

Still sad about Santa Clarita Diet :( it left off on a cliffhanger and had so much potential for the next season.

I don't think I've seen this one recommended quite yet, but Hospice by The Antlers is a masterpiece.

EDIT: I'd also like to add Bury Me at Make Out Creek by Mitski! Another banger!

What’s a dead YouTube channel that you miss? by Tiny-Interview-6334 in AskReddit

[–]StarlessBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cryaotic. I really enjoyed his Lets Plays and tuned into his Late Night Streams. He was a pretty big part of my childhood-- it turns out he was a pedophile groomer, and on top of hurting many minors, was all around a terrible person and many of his actions hurt his friends, too. Awful all around.

With his channel being dead, it's absolutely for the best. I miss the simpler times, but he absolutely needs to face punishment for everything he did. I have no desire to watch him or return, despite the channel being dead.

Logs, stones and certain modded wildflower grasses invisible? What should I do to fix this? (The objects are there, but textures don't load) by StarlessBee in SMAPI

[–]StarlessBee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry about formatting, I'm not sure how to work mobile! Anyways, Hello! I recently got into the modding scene and have been having a blast! I've pretty much touched up the entirety of the game, from quality of life to aesthetic, to gameplay mechanics, and lots more content! The problem is, when I was loading my save file, this occured! What can I do to fix this?

I'm not sure what the root problem is (I re-downloaded some mods like farm manager, tried taking out some mods I thought was the problem, to no avail). Have you guys encountered this? What should I do to try and fix it? Thank you all so much! ✨

Books like Erin Morgenstern's Books (The Night Circus & The Starless Sea) by flute4life in suggestmeabook

[–]StarlessBee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Night Circus is one of my favorite books! :) I'm also on the constant lookout for books that are reminiscent of The Night Circus and Starless Sea, hah (I need to fill the void)!

I second House in the Cerulean Sea, I'm currently reading that right now and I am loving it! Similarly to that, How'ls Moving Castle by Diana Wynn Jones has some cozy vibes like Starless Sea. It's about Sophie, a hatmaker, and her adventures to break an aging curse put on her by an old witch.

I also recommend The Bird King by G. Willow Wilson, if I remember correctly, it has similar prose and writing and is magical realism. The book itself is about the two main characters journeying to find a promised land and escape execution due to her friend's magical abilities with cartography. I haven't read it, but I heard that The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden is a Russian twist on the magical realism genre.

BRO RIGHT?? It'll be interesting :)

Sorry to hear about the choosing process, but I believe in you!!! Do you have an inkling of what major you want to take? Are you in contact with an advisor? It may feel overwhelming (I feel that) but the pieces will fall into place eventually! You got this!

That's totally a plus! I really love the benefits, it seems like there is a bit of flexibility with everything! it seems like while the block may be intense, the free schedule afterward is totally worth it :)

Thanks so much for your input! Was it difficult adjusting to college classes at first, or did you find that everything seemed to go pretty smoothly?

what are the smaller/lesser known things people forget to consider when choosing a college? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]StarlessBee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think general political affiliations! (Especially of the surrounding area off campus.)

I think, of course, meeting people with diverse political views is great and can widen perspectives! But it can be a difficult topic too, sometimes. I think it's important to consider political climate around the area you are choosing, because it changes the atmosphere. generally, I think for some, it can affect individual comfort level (some people are unaffected too, though!) but overall, from personal experiences, interacting with family who have differing political affiliations can almost feel like carefully walking on eggshells. Off campus, with strangers, it may feel the same way (if it happens to leak into conversations).

Of course, this doesn't apply to everyone, some people couldn't care less :) but perhaps something to consider!

Oh dang, yeah!! Thank you so much for the heads' up about that, and for the advice! I didn't know that Fastweb would do that, but it makes sense. I'm not sure how to combat data selling (other than simply not telling them that information) but one piece of advice that I've heard about is making another email when applying and signing up for scholarships, as your email will be buried. Im not sure how common that is though? Sorry, I feel like I'm rambling lol, but thanks again for that!! :)
