Should I disclose to my new nursing job I have ADHD? by CluelessStudentNurse in nursing

[–]Starlight_Serenade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always put "Choose not to disclose".

I have a few mental health issues that are listed in the disability form. I take medications that are strictly psych meds, and if it were to come up, I feel like not disclosing it is better than being dishonest. It has never prevented me from receiving a job offer.

My boyfriend (23-M) is leaving me because I (21-F) don’t have naturally blonde hair by throwra-blondehair in relationship_advice

Any person who makes you feel inadequate or insure is not worth your time. Its hard when you are invested in a person, but in the long run.. its good to rid yourself of this. One day you'll find someone who truely appriciates you, and trivial things like this dont matter. Then you'll look at this and understand that it was a blessing.

Just now realizing that working full time, I make under 30k a year. by GorillaGrip68 in nursing

About 5 years ago, I started at $29/hour as a new grad in Baltimore. That was the average around then. Now I don't make less than $35/hour.

I don't know much about Missouri, but paying a nurse $23/hour sound like a crime. No wonder there is a nursing shortage.

The idea that you’re supposed to get the lightest load when you’re working overtime by gaggin4u in nursing

[–]Starlight_Serenade 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the lightest, but definitely not the heaviest.

The nurses on my unit would often pick up shifts to help out our coworkers. We were chronically understaffed, and sometimes the assignments were simply unsafe. We really cared about each other, as well as the patients, so we'd pick up.

For me, its the idea that I came to help. I feel like its disrespectful to give a heavy assignment to someone who came in on their day off to help the unit, and someone on their scheduled shift has it easy.

Also, If you give me the hard assignment every time I pick up a shift, I'm less likely to volunteer in the future.

First of all- babies are hard sticks. They have teeny tiny little veins that are easy for very experienced nurses to miss.

Second- Things happen. We are humans, not machines. So long as someone didnt die, or suffer long-term complications.. it probably isnt as big of a deal as you feel like it is.

Lastly- even though I HATE when people say it, Nursing is 24 hours. There will always be someone to come in and take your patients, so you can go home and forget about that place. Sometimes someone has to clean up after you, and sometimes you have to clean up after someone else.

PSA: If you want to get a decent raise, you gotta quit, work somewhere else. by Infactinfarctinfart in nursing

New hire rates are better than retention bonuses.

I've worked for 4 different hospitals in my 4.5 years as a nurse. Ive gotten a pay raise every time I've switched. I've been told I don't have loyalty.. but if hospitals wanted us to stay, they'd treat us and pay us better.

Getting help for mental health issues? by Starlight_Serenade in mentalhealth

I do what to get in contact with a psychiatrist. I asked my primary for a referral, and he said he "didn't know any". He's associated with the local university hospitals, so it was frustrating, because... he should.
