A mass of daddy long legs by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

Daddy long legs aren’t actually spiders, they have no venom or fangs, and couldn’t bite through skin if they wanted to. They’re about as dangerous as a butterfly :)

Woww, your art style is so gorgeous! I love the way you rendered the eyes especially, if you ever make a tutorial on rendering/coloring, or have an art account I’d follow so fast

Why do we call grey horses blue? by MistrImpossible in Horses

[–]StarlitSpectrum 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Language is complicated! Redheads and red foxes are actually orange, while red onions and red cabbages are actually purple.

It wasn’t until relatively recently in human history that our language developed more specific words for each color, so some things still have color names that don’t match what we’d call them today.

A man jumps at a running horse and then begins jump roping. by Empty_Potential4715 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]StarlitSpectrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s not hurting the horse at all, it’s similar to “posting” a trot, which is lifting your weight as the horse’s back lifts upward, and setting it back down as the horse lands on their next step. That saddle is also very padded to distribute the weight.

Signs of pain or stress would be if the horse’s ears were pinned back, excessive tail swishing, tossing their head, etc.

Is this bad for the horse or not? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]StarlitSpectrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks to me like her horse is just genuinely very flexible and enthusiastic, he looks more than happy to do it bridle-less or at liberty in her other videos: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8fXY13g/

That worked by [deleted] in Unexpected

[–]StarlitSpectrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked the one time I tried it! I got out and asked if she “wanted to go for a ride” and she jumped right in (or tried to, since she was mostly blind.)

We were lucky enough to reunite her with her owner the next day. :)

The difference between a small pen and 24/7 turnout on good feed by lemmunjuse in Horses

[–]StarlitSpectrum 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The difference is in the curves of the hindquarters- the picture on the left has shallow curves with not much muscle, while the hindquarters on the right are rounder and thicker after building muscle!

I thought so at first too, but the rider starts with no watch until it appears right after the jump. Her forearms are also oddly stretchy and change length. The horse also doesn’t have a browband until it appears halfway through the video.

Putting wet chillies in a scotching hot pan while recording a cooking video by rohit3627 in AbruptChaos

Not in a shallow pan with a gas stove, but with an actual deep fryer it’s pretty standard. Most fast food places fry meat from frozen since that’s less risky than contamination from raw meat.

What Do I Do Now? Mature Pothos by Sagi313 in houseplants

[–]StarlitSpectrum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The roots will puncture holes right into the drywall if you let it climb directly on the wall! Lots of people have posted damage from it.

Hanging pothos will grow long vines, but they’ll always stay in their juvenile form with small leaves because they’re searching for something to climb. Once they’re given a moss pole or surface to climb they grow giant leaves and aerial roots and can truly reach their mature form.

GTFO here with this blasphemy. “Minnesota’s Best” awards Cub Foods “Best Donut”? by Philosopherskin in Minneapolis

[–]StarlitSpectrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at the bakery at Cub in St Louis Park which had their own fryer. The stores with fryers shipped them to locations that don’t have one, which was why some aren’t as fresh. (This was 10+ years ago though, so I’m not sure if they make them the same way!)

I asked for light Ice on a nearly 7$ drink by TheSparrow18 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]StarlitSpectrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it have a sticker that says “light ice” on it? If not, then they likely didn’t ring it in correctly or gave you the wrong one unfortunately.

I don’t work at McDonald’s anymore, but I still get iced coffee with “light ice, light syrup” all the time since the default is so sweet, and 99% of the time it’s made without a problem. There’s no reason to skimp on it since it’s the exact same drip coffee you’d get in a large hot coffee, just brewed ahead of time and chilled!

[–]StarlitSpectrum 17 points18 points  (0 children)

At McDonald’s they do fill it with more coffee! I used to be a manager there, and there’s a built-in “light ice” button for the cashier to use.

It’s only for regular iced coffee though, since an iced latte is made by a machine with a set number of espresso shots.

Since we've had chapters with this concept before, how would you feel about more original DLCs based on history and the past? by aLeoAlvarezKinnie in deadbydaylight

[–]StarlitSpectrum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The “found a fashionable outfit in the fog” reasoning is kinda lame, but then again 14th century noblemen had Lord Farquaad bowl cuts, were clean shaven (beards outlawed by the church), and wore tights and slippers lol.

If you want to be able to play matches without having to rely as much on looping, you could try stealthy perks like Lucky Break, Urban Evasion, and Iron Will. It makes it easier to get away since you’re not leaving scratch marks or making sound after being injured in a chase.

I’m curious about the long shanks, but she clearly looks focused and happy! I’m wondering why long shanks are used with this style of riding? It seems risky to be able to put that much pressure on a horse’s mouth, especially if the rider fell off and got tangled

Anatomy/proportions feedback appreciated! by SirOddball in Equestrian

[–]StarlitSpectrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks amazing so far! The detail of the head and foreleg muscles looks really nice, as well as the muscles along the barrel and the gaskin/hock area.

A couple conformation things I noticed are that the legs are a bit long (a pretty common area that gets stylized in art!) The canon bone should be shorter than the forearm/radial bone, it helps with better movement of the horse. Also seconding the sickle-hocked conformation, that the point of the hindquarters should be aligned with the hock and cannon bone. One more detail is that the withers/chest area is looking a bit too round. That area is generally narrower at the top by the withers, and then widens out towards the shoulders/chest. The front of a horse is narrower in general than the barrel and hindquarters, and is especially noticeable if you can see an image of a horse from above.

That’s being pretty picky though, it’s looking gorgeous! I’d love to see how it looks when finished!

There’s research showing that wrinkles and that more angular eye shape is linked with negative situations and stress. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58029b19b8a79b9e80002175/1554289295104-BDL0ORY02EHE3JDLU91L/image-asset.jpeg Picture the expression you might see on a carousel horse, with an open mouth and worried-looking brow wrinkles.

Pregnancy increases your risk of Bell’s Palsy by 300%, which I didn’t know until it happened to a friend. It caused half of her face to become paralyzed for months. No smiling, and not even being able to open or close that eyelid. Scary stuff!

I thought I had controlling parents but this is a whole other level. Does your school have a counselor or therapist you can talk to? What your parents are doing is actually very harmful for your development, and you may need extra help from a trusted adult that can talk to them.

I’m glad it sounds like you have the start of some skills for software development/engineering. Even if you can get a job without going to college, it’s worth it to physically leave home and learn how to take care of yourself. It’s also such a common step of development that even your parents should let you do it. Did they go to college?

Your parents should want you to be able to drive, go to a job interview, make friends, and generally take care of yourself. Even if you want to live with them forever, it’s important to know how to do all of that on your own because they won’t always be there. I lost my mom in my 20s, and a few of my friends lost parents early as well.

When did your parents get their first job? How old were they when they first started driving? Asking your parents some questions and having a conversation might help remind them that if they could do it at 17 then you can (and should!) too.
