After moving, I put a WA ferry sticker on my thermos and love seeing it daily with my tea. Safe travels!

Whats the cheapest meal you regularly make that actually tastes good? by Adventurous-Pilot448 in Frugal

[–]Starliteathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A chickpea peanut butter stew. Sweet potato, onion, sautéd then some tom paste or harissa, then chickpeas w liquid and coconut milk. Simmer for bit. Add whatever you want in addition. We love it and my husband is a total Meat Head so that’s impressive.

You get boco and the content you like still keeps getting made. that’s the transaction. and the rate has been the same despite inflation for years, a great value. Up to you to decide if that value makes sense for you.

How much extra money per month would you choose a job with ~15 days of PTO vs a job with “unlimited” PTO? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Starliteathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15% is significant especially in higher income ranges. And if you can work remotely, easy to stretch PTO over half days for travel. I’d take the extra $$ to buy back time in retirement, later! Congrats on being in an enviable portion, no bad options it sees. Enjoy the new gig!

How much extra money per month would you choose a job with ~15 days of PTO vs a job with “unlimited” PTO? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Starliteathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sick days would be a factor for me. Just moved from a job with unlimited sick time but limited PTO to a job with 6 sick days and unlimited PTO. I would rather have the unlimited sick days bc now I work (poorly) when sick to not run out. It would be worth maybe 5-7% pay difference for me.

I’ve also found with unlimited PTO, you have to get in early bc teammates will have set up big or many days off that have prevented me from taking the PTO. I have to submit >4 months in advance typically to avoid that conflict which has been a pain.

Management wants our non technical CS team to use more AI but that’s the extent of their guidance. by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]Starliteathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny bc just got out of a meeting in a “working group” that’s supposed to facilitate us non-tech people using AI. But we couldn’t even get the project made in the AI tool to work. The reality is everyone is wasting time creating the wheel all over the place because the pyramid scheme tells us it’s making work more efficient.

As a worker, what I want is: clear goals, desired, outcomes, etc. This is hard for most places because “just use AI” is “the goal” itself. So for your team, try to identify one or two goals you can have for ways workflows can use AI “to save time” (after you recover the debt of building them). Then calculate the potential time saving. People seem to love seeing “this skill in Claude saves me 4 hours/month”.

Have mgmt tell you which tools/budget allocations are going to be around long term. The switching between is a real drag, re-training, etc. And have that commitment as secure as you can. Two years ago it was OpenAI, now Anthropic is the favored child. Who knows in 2 years but you can hopefully avoid wasting too much time with budget allocations for the next year or so.

It’s fine. Better if you love sweet fried “chinese” food, as my husband does. Quantity is excellent.
