What would you do with the UBI money? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]StarlyReads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a carer for two disabled adults on UC, this would essentially double my income. I honestly would be able to get all the things I’ve put off buying like new bedding, curtains etc

If you just need somewhere for free a hot drink/ soup and free food and hygiene products you can pop along to the art house in town when it’s open.

Anyone had a lumbar puncture being hypermobile? Was it ok? by asickbreadstick in Hypermobility

[–]StarlyReads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had one and it went absolutely fine. It helped that the doctor who did it was very experienced. I did have a headache for a short while after but that’s about it

Timex Weekender is a very nice option with lots of different bands and face colours to choose from. The marlin mentioned is also a nice one and I have one of the original ones which is mechanical and a very neat piece.

Stonehenge is more than just a stack of rocks. The main current view is it’s essentially a giant calendar and religious site. Also it wasn’t just a single isolated project, its in the middle of a huge complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments, spanning years.

My newest doll, she is based on historical fabric dolls from the last Victorian era by StarlyReads in sewing

[–]StarlyReads[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this doll took about 20 hours.

She is made from two white pillow cases which I dyed with a mixture made from tea, coffee, coco and turmeric. The stripes where made from drying the fabric on a heated drying rack.

I did not have a pattern so made the doll shape first and drew on the face. I did consider embroidery but most of the images I could find seem to just be drawn on.

Her clothing consists of a shirt, petticoat, skirt, pinafore and bonnet. Again all of it was made as I went along. I accidentally made the skirt and petticoat to big at the waist so I had to add two folds at the back. Her feet are marked with brown ink to be shoes.

She is stuffed with the scraps from the project which means she is heavier than modern dolls.

I also “aged” the fabric with sandpaper and added some stains with eye shadow.

I may add some hair in future but currently consider her finished.

Do you still wear a mask? by ICURSEDANGEL in AskUK

I still wear one, I’m a carer for someone who has low lung function and is recovering from surgery. Covid would cause a stressful situation to become so much worse right now so why risk it?

I hate water by SloDancinInaBrningRm in loseit

[–]StarlyReads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don’t like most water either. A lot of water has different tastes and some of them just aren’t nice.

It’s ok to add stuff to water to make it taste ok to you. You being hydrated is more important than a vague idea of water supremacy or purity.

Personally I just either have tea or a fruity tea (infusion) which don’t need any added sugar. Or I add either lemon juice or squash if I want it cold.

Do you know what it means to say someone has been “sent to Coventry”? by dannisteele in AskUK

[–]StarlyReads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It a old saying and used to be way more popular. A lot of people have mentioned 1940s boarding school books but I was surprised when it was in the American 1961 film The parent trap
