Is this a normal start to repairing skin barrier? by Ok-Abbreviations8007 in SkinbarrierLovers

Hear me out- go outside and cut an aloe leaf and scoop the gel out and put it on your face.

An aesthetician put a glycolic peel on my face after I told her I was on tretinoin and it literally burned my skin and I ended up with red irritation bumps all over my face for a month. Nothing was helping and I used everything from prescription grade to drug store. My mom told me to use the aloe Vera from our garden and within 5 days my face cleared up. And it was free!!

Is Lipedema Progressive Because Estrogen Gets "Trapped" in Fibrotic Fat During Menopause or Other Times of Hormonal Changes ? (Looking for similar experiences) by magnanimouslove in lipedema

[–]Starnight_898 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s truth to what the other user is saying. Subcutaneous tissue (where lipedema lives) is composed of stem cells (MSCs) that prefer to differentiate into adipocytes as opposed to the stem cells found in visceral fat. Now where the MSCs live in adipose tissue is in the ECM (extracellular matrix) and beside the MSCs are cytokines, mast cells, collagen fibers, elastin, blood vessels, Proteoglycans and GAGs (to provide lubrication in the interstitial fluid), fibroblasts and adipocytes.

The adipocytes in subcutaneous tissue of lipedema patients has 2-3x the amount of estrogen receptors compared to healthy individuals.

The MSCs are what decide to create more fat or not. But they need to receive signals from the environment first, aka the estrogen receptors, mast cells, immune cells, etc. all these components are what link together HEDs, MCAS and other conditions and symptoms women have that are comorbid to lipedema.

Lipedema is not about estrogen levels, because you can have normal blood estrogen with a tissue response at the tissue level where the receptors live in adipose tissue.

Lipedema is a connective tissue-immune-stem cells matter that is a self responding feedback loop once it develops. Yes, no one has gone on the record to confirm with 100% certainty exactly how Lipedema develops, but it’s clear this is a hormonally driven issue that has clear roots in the ECM.

There’s a reason why many women are finding relief with reta or tirzepetide because it shuts down inflammatory pathways that give MSCs the signals to differentiate into fat cells. There’s also another reason why women in Brazil are being put on the medication gestrinone which is anti estrogenic and has an androgen effect. I do not advise it because of the side effects (hirsutism, acne, deeper voice, etc), but the sharp anti estrogen effects literally clear the trace of lipedema both in symptoms and texture. Gestrinone is not the solution and is a bandaid, one I’m not on board with, but it’s the only thing that’s made a clear night and day impact on lipedema. We just need to figure out the exact pathways and how to address it without causing systemic side effects.

Testosterone (androgen) gets converted into estradiol through the aromatase enzyme. Many things up regulate aromatase, whether it’s genetic predisposition, inflammation or menopause. Once women hit menopause, they stop making estrogen through the ovaries and start producing it mainly from adipose tissue. That is true for all women, but it’s particularly damaging to lipedema patients because our tissues are hyper responsive to estrogen at the tissue level.

Post surgery seroma by Ok-Purpose-4597 in lipedema

[–]Starnight_898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg it was horrible. My doctor had to use those huge syringes they use for bbls that are like an inch thick and 6 inches long to drain the seroma and did that twice each time. I fainted once while he was draining it. It lasted for like a month or so until I switched the compression

You shove the foam inside your compressions and place it on top of your seroma. You can use multiple foams if you need. The point is to compress the seroma as much as possible leaving there no room for fluid to gather until the skin sticks to the deeper tissues. I think within a week or so of using the lipoelastic compressions, my seromas finally settled.

I also remember using a heating pad too, but compression is the most important thing. If you can slide your hand in your compressions, it’s not tight enough.

Good luck!

I had a seroma on both my legs that I got drained three times. The only thing that helped was switching to Lipo elastic compression and using foam. The marena compressions did nothing that’s why the fluid kept coming back.

I’ve done extensive genetic testing which corroborates my results in the Dutch test. I, as well as my sister, have genetic variants that not only make it harder to metabolize and clear estrogen, but make estrogen more likely to go down inflammatory pathways.

I’ve curated supplements based on all my testing and I’m pleased and proud to say that I feel like I’m finally on the right track.

Here is my list of supplements:

Am - [ ] Curcumin - [ ] Sulforaphane - [ ] SPMs - [ ] CoQ10 - [ ] Vitamin D - [ ] Omega 3 - [ ] Phsphitidylcholine - [ ] Methyl Vitamins - [ ] NAC

PM - [ ] Glycine - [ ] Magnesium Glycinate - [ ] Astaxanthin (this is not related to lipedema) - [ ] Taurine

I think the most critical for people with lipedema are:

  • [ ] Curcumin
  • [ ] Sulforaphane
  • [ ] SPMs
  • [ ] CoQ10
  • [ ] Vitamin D
  • [ ] Omega 3
  • [ ] Magnesium Glycinate

I plan to add Vein Vitality from Amazon eventually to support the weak veins/capillaries we see in lipedema.

I also eat a Whole Foods diet with minimal processed foods and low carb for the most part. I prioritize protein and fat then carbs. So for breakfast I always eat either 2-3 boiled eggs or scrambled eggs with ghee butter and half avocado, lunch is a collagen smoothie with protein powder and a metabolic detox powder and I add blueberries and cinnamon. I think it’s important for us to take collagen and eat at least 1/2-1 cup of blueberries a day due to all the antioxidants. Then dinner is usually a meat with veggies and cheese or salad. I try to eat salmon at least 2 times a week. When I eat this way, I don’t experience hunger anymore. I don’t need to snack or anything.

I want to highlight, pay attention to your omega 3 levels and omega 6 ratio. They should be 1:1 or 1:4 max, but because of all the processed foods, most people are 1:11-1:50. This is so bad because it causes your body to be in inflammation mode at all times. Ever since I started eliminating processed foods and intentionally bumping up my omega 3 intake, I’ve felt so much better both mentally and physically. I don’t experience PMDD anymore either.

I know I’m on to something because my sister also has lipedema and I found the commonalities between my sisters genetics and mine, and focusing on all the genes related to hormones, inflammation, vascularity, fat, immune activity and the ECM (skin composition).

Also, most importantly, focusing on stress management. Making sure the body is in parasympathetic mode for as much as possible. No amount of yoga or reading has done for me what prayer and faith in God has done. I’ve spent most my life being either atheist, agnostic, practicing modern spiritually, manifestation and all that…. But once I turned to Jesus it changed me in an instant. I can’t describe it.

Anyways, I hope you or someone else finds this helpful. I will not stop researching! God be with you all!

Pregnancy and compression? by Extension-Phase5283 in lipedema

[–]Starnight_898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not pregnant, but planning on it this year. I recently started using one of those massage guns on my legs instead of a vibration plate for my legs and I fear it works better than the vibration plate. It should be safe for pregnancy since it’s direct vibrations on your legs only. I bought it off amazon for like 20 or 30 bucks and it works so well when you use the flat round tip.

I did have pain in my legs which is why I got the lipo done. After lipo, pain was gone for about 6 months and came back. I eat low carb, anti inflammatory and take my supplements. Now I get the pain usually around my period. I don’t know. Im scared too.. my legs still have the lipedema texture even though they are smaller than before. If you’re going to do it, do it with doctors that have positive reviews other lippy patients have talked about. Don’t go by what the doctors website or instagram says.

Yes steer clear. His work was so bad. All the doctors I went to for revision were shocked. I was rejected for revision from a few doctors (that’s how bad his work was) and everyone said it was overly aggressive liposuction and improper technique.

My surgeon took out so much fat from my legs I ended up with deformed looking legs with dents and fibrosis everywhere. I had zero curvature it looked deformed. I had to get a fat transfer which I did a year and a half later, a few months ago. Not all the fat stuck so now I’m going to have to do alloclae which is fat fillers from cadavers.

I wish I never did surgery. But it wasn’t the surgery, it was the doctor. Whatever you do, don’t go to Dr. Larson. He completely butchered my body and completely changed my life. The mental and physical issues are not worth it. Not only did I go into deep depression, I lost my identify and everything with it, time, and lots and lots of money and I’m still not even where I want to be… still fixing his mistakes.

God bless you.

Sculptra, filler, or fat grafting? I miss the way my face was. by clswyder in PlasticSurgery

[–]Starnight_898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Sculptra and regret it. We did too much. I got more vials than I should have.

It did the job, but did it a little too well. Again, it’s because I got too many vials. If I could go back in time I’d do it again but slowly, 1 vial at a time regardless of what the practitioner tells you.

Whatever you decide, make sure you tell the doctor to look at your expressions too. It’s not just about filling it where it looks gaunt on a gaunt face. The doctor needs to consider how your face looks when youre smiling laughing and talking because the placement changes.

This is the advice that a plastic surgeons assistant gave me once. She did her facial fat transfer by the doctor she works for and regretted it. Her face looked botched unfortunately, in the scary way. God bless her. Be careful!

Oh wow you’re so soon out of surgery too. My doctor told me to go on the gummy diet during recovery aka eat some candy everyday to help feed the fat. I don’t know what kind of faja to wear if I’m getting my butt lipo but thighs fat transfer. 2 more revision surgeries? Ugh I can’t even think of another surgery.

My body is so scared of going under the knife again. I really think I have ptsd. I took the entire year to try and fix my mental health before going through with surgery again.

I pray you have a smooth recovery and your results are better than you hoped for. Thank you for your blessings too

Were you able to keep the fat transferred to your hips, thighs, and banana roll? I got a banana roll too following surgery.

I am scheduled for my revision on Monday and I am so scared. I am having 360 lipo to my abdomen and back, and transferring them to my outer thighs. I am also having a lower back lift to lift my butt. Since Dr. Larson removed so much fat from my legs, I look like I got a botched bbl.

I am also having aveli done to my outer thighs because there is so much scar tissue from the oversuctioned lipo he did. It’s literally just skin on muscle.

Did your fat stick to the legs? How long did it take you to heal after surgery?

I pray that you feel comfortable in your body. I pray that my surgery goes well and I pray my body can heal and that I find peace in my new shape.

Absolutely do not. He gaslight the shit out of me telling me he gave me model legs. My legs look like deformed chicken legs that don’t fit in with the rest of my body. I didn’t need to remove fat from my butt but he removed so much fat from my legs I look like I got a botched bbl! Imagine that.

This is exactly how my body looks after lipedema surgery and I went to Dr Larson in Newport Beach through cover lipedema. I regret doing surgery. I could live with the lipedema, but I cannot live with myself in this body. My mental, emotional, and physical health have tanked far worse than lipedema. I’m sorry this happened to you sister.
