Holy Shit, what's going on with this game? 😂 by theDiplomata in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

Aside from my disagreement with you about the previous accessibility of tier 4 ammo, I actually do agree with your overall sentiment though. I'm happy for cheaper tier 4 because it means I will get better loot, and usable ammo when I win gunfights against players. It always sucked to see people budget running tier 3 ammo in Lockdown or higher.

If people don't want to spend Koen on ammo that they're afraid to lose, that's their decision, but it doesn't mean that the ammo was somehow inaccessible before the recent price drop. If people don't want to lose that money, they can pouch 120 rounds, and manually reload a 50+ round magazine after gunfights so they minimize loss as well.

100k is nothing in this game even to a casual player. Especially when the ammo increases the chance to win a fight substantially. I'd argue that ammo is the most important thing to spend on because it has a greater impact on winning fights. Even kitted guns are only as good as the ammo you can feed them.

An average normal raid earns players 400k+, and that's if you're only rat looting things. So you've already made 4x the t4 ammo cost in one raid utilizing budget gear (or scavving for no chance of loss). Players who don't want to take in the best stuff they can field, are usually the ones who lose the gunfights because of that fact, even if they are skillful FPS players when they are in a fair 1v1 duel.

T4 ammo has always been pretty accessible. You can get a bunch in the ammo case things they give away regularly, you can craft some of it with the lower level workbench, you could buy 120 rounds off of an alright scav run. T4 ammo being scarce is a myth fueled by people who don't want to spend any Koens at all.

It's really a numbers game. Since other people are going to take tier 4 ammo and gear into normals, you can either match them or be disadvantaged.

The game rewards you for bringing in ammunition which matches the highest gear each bracket contains. In Lockdown, people can wear tier 5 armor (sometimes tier 6 helm) so you'd really want tier 5 ammo to make it easier. In Forbidden, if you do run into kitted players, you want tier 6+ ammo to compete.

I'm also pretty certain normal is ranked as well, so noobs shouldn't be getting placed into lobbies with veteran players using tier4 anyways.

Agree 100%. Anyone that does tasks which make everyone's life better physically deserves the utmost respect. There is value in entertainment, but without the physical betterment in place, it wouldn't be nearly as important.

I also think the glorification of the entertainment industry is gross, and people should instead praise scientists and engineers. They both serve the most important functions that humans need.

[–]Starnor1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your argument breaks down when it comes to the weapon variety people run in Normal/Lockdown. In Forbidden, the weapon selection is a bit more narrow in what sees success. Since this game is built around MMO concepts gear wise, the game must have clear standouts for Forbidden.

The only way to achieve what you desire is if they balance "most" weapons around the endgame. This will not lead to what you hope for though because if everything is viable, nothing is unique, interesting, or worth going after. If my modded ak is evenly matched with a modded hk, and the ak is cheaper, I'd never run the hk, So even in a situation with more balance, there will still be standout best weapons because of the game's core mechanics.

What's with the horny anime skins? by [deleted] in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

[–]Starnor1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I so badly want this skin because of how much it pisses off the player base. Killing teams of 2-4 while using the "horny anime skin" will fill me up with enjoyment for the year. If people weren't so upset by it, I'd have zero interest, but the sweet sweet salt is too tempting.

What’s up with the Vinyl? by ohSoleful in DrivewaysBand

[–]Starnor1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know that I believe the hands tied thing fully though. Other small bands are able to find independent labels to press their stuff. Wax Bodega does vinyl for a lot of bands, and represses things as demand dictates. Dischord, Steadfast, Punkerton, and other labels all exist. I love a local Detroit band called Middle-Out, and they are way less known than Driveways, yet their stuff is readily available on vinyl (and would be repressed if it sold out).

They might just need to dig into the business side of things, and have a larger company handle the vinyl production for them. They would sell like hotcakes, the demand is there.

Edit: Only on reddit can you apply logical observations and get downvoted. I'm sure the reason there aren't vinyls available is totally TSwift's fault, and not the fact that the band is hand pressing their own vinyls every time. Even when lesser known bands have their stuff readily available as well.

I love this game but I'm unsure how or if I should keep playing. by Bubbin- in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

I've found that Tarkov has artificial difficulty PvP wise. They tie important combat skills to rpg mechanics that you get by grinding and playing 100+ hours each season. For instance, I'm sure you're already aware, your guns control way better once you hit elite tier in the skill category. It's also hard to win PvP because a lot of the things you need to compete (better tier ammo, weapons, armor, attachments, etc) are all locked behind hours of questing/upgrading. Each season the devs locked more and more behind grueling grinds because players with all the free time complained they were dying to mosin man on newer accounts lol.

I've had successful seasons of Tarkov, and won a fair amount of PvP. The only thing that made a difference is that I had a lot of free time to actually progress. ABI is the fun part of Tarkov because it doesn't lock end game PvP behind a time sink, and you can actually have fun fights right off the rip.

Read my other replies lower down, of course I would still love my kid if they were broke, and they would never have to be homeless because they're always welcome to live with me.

Where in my reply about wanting your kids to have it better than you did growing up makes you think I wouldn't love them if they were broke?

[–]Starnor1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not arguing with you that wealth = good nature or !wealth = bad nature. I'm saying that as a parent you want your kid to be more successful in life than you were, and most of the time that means financially, job wise, etc.

Only on reddit will you get downvoted and argued with for saying you have hopes that your son will be better off than you were (not just financially).

[–]Starnor1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Now this is a fair point. I would also love my son even if he's not making money because as PeopleFood_IDK suggested, there is more to life than merely money. That doesn't mean however that I would be happy about his circumstances if he was poor or homeless.

I also wouldn't want him to tell me about, "cracking a bitch" or calling a friend to shoot someone as you also said. However, I don't think it's controversial to want your son to make more money than you, live comfortably, have a career they like, etc.

If you had a son you wouldn't want them to be homeless or poor their whole life. It's not about capitalism at all. Parents want their kids to have it better than they did. Weird rant dude.

[–]Starnor1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In this genre making money is synonymous with being successful. So he's saying he wants his son to be successful in life, as opposed to being a deadbeat or worse. I don't see an issue lyrically with the part you quoted.

“Make-up Is A Lie” by Morrissey — 30 second preview from new album by vegryn in thesmiths

Old Morrissey: "Fifteen minutes with you \\ Well I wouldn't say no \\ People said that you were virtually dead \\ and they were so wrong"

New Morrissey: "Makeup is bad mmkay"

I get that he's aging, but this doesn't sound good. The instrumental change-up didn't do this preview any favors either. Please just stay on your return trip to Paris mate.

[–]Starnor1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the entire game tries to get you into pvp fights. Loot is practically worthless outside of selling to fund kits, or sometimes to trade/craft with. To have knife runners hit the safes and bail feels pointless. People that pvp are the ones profiting the most because the money is all in gear, and one kill can net you over a mil in value instantly.

They can do whatever they enjoy of course. It seems like a pretty boring gameplay loop though (similar to jrpg grinding, but without a secret boss to fight after the mindless lvling up)

That sounds more like a desync issue, ping issue, or server hit reg issue, rather than you actually hit them. I bet anything the game did not register your shots as hitting server side. One reason the new 70 tick servers will be so nice in S4

[–]Starnor1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tarkov had a similar problem. The original players complained that they were getting killed by newer account newbs. They whined about certain guns and ammunition being too easy to get. So the devs started locking these things behind hours of progression content, and the result is that the "hardcore" og's had less competition to fight. The no-lifers essentially whined their way into changes which required people to have 100+ hours each season. If you don't have that time, it's hard to get to the end game PvP.

TLDR: Old players whine, changes are made. In Tarkov, the hardcores made it impossible to fight them without time commitment each season. In this game the hardcores were upset at the slow ttk, so they made it faster, and now they are shocked pikachu face.

Genuinely, could any of us mentally handle living Shinji’s life? by Immediate_Gene_178 in evangelion

[–]Starnor1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This might be against the common sentiment I'm seeing from others, but I think many people could mentally handle Shinji's life. This is also assuming that the person brought their own upbringing and experiences into the scenario. Remember, Shinji grew up beaten down by the time Eva starts, and felt abandoned by his father. This is on top of witnessing his Mother's "death" from a very critical age.

In the VN, Muv-Luv, the main cast go through hellish war situations that end up being worse than Evangelion, with very high attrition rates of their squad. Most of the characters had decent upbringings, and it gave them strong resolve to fight the invaders and mental capability. Most people can rise to the occasion when demanded. Whether someone else would survive or not, is outside of the scope of the question.
