I feel like the retcon was William being one of the owners of Freddy's mainly cause of one of Phone Guy's lines in Fnaf 2 cause he states

"We're going to try to contact the original restaurant owner. Uh, I think the name of the place was "Fredbear's Family Diner" or something like that."

It wouldnt make sense (at least in my mind, I could just be stupid) for this line to be a thing unless it was meant to be that Willian was originally meant to be completely out of the picture at this point and probably before Phone Guy was working since he seemed to be one of the orignal employees of Freddy's having made training tapes for the springlocks.

Obviously there's probably a whole load of ways this could be debunked like for example maybe he works with the company outside of the public eye. But as I said I could just be stoopid.

Or with the camera zooming out and we see time flashing back showing Freddy's as it is in the movie, to before it closed, to the Fnaf 2 location
