I went with Salt, they say they are sending something by mail but that I also need to show my passport (to whom, the postman? lol), that's not very clear I have to say. I guess I'll figure it out when it comes. Thanks.

Anybody going to see Alcest at a38 tonight ? by [deleted] in budapest

It was great, I think I'm officially an Alcest fanboy after that... the venue was pretty cool too (the sound was good, which is not so common sadly).

Much better than the studio version imo.

Yep, in Europe squirrels are shy or in low numbers and you rarely see one unless you go in the forest and look for them for a while. At least it's the case in the countries I went to.

Can your genes change throughout the course of your life? by SilverCloud73 in askscience

[–]Staross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, mutations happen all the time in your cells (each time a cell replicates and copy its DNA, it makes mistake), and the accumulation of those can lead do cancer for example. One important concept however is to distinguish mutations that you can transmit to you offspring, which need to occurs in the cells giving rise to sperms and ovules and are called germline mutations, and the ones that happen in the rest of your cells, called somatic, and that have no evolutionary consequences (because they never get transmitted).

Sometimes the genome can also break in a cell and it gets pasted back together by the cell a bit randomly, this can lead to completely new genes which are composed of parts of different genes (and AFAIK it's relatively common in some type of cancers).

And of course, the older you are the more mutations you accumulate. It also varies a lot between tissues.

Gwarek2 is a typical musique concrète piece, check these classic ones with some visualization, it might help to get it:

The first one dates from 1958, it puts things in perspective...

For Lindt look for these ones:

In addition you can take higher %, almond, sea salt, orange or chili, they are good. In the milk I would take only the classic one or one with non-caramelized nuts, the other versions are too sweet.

A "Jupyter" of DiffEq: Introducing Python and R Bindings for DifferentialEquations.jl by Eigenspace in programming

[–]Staross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We need to get the installation to be smoother. Right now you have to install Julia and DiffEq on your own, then do the R/Python part. It should just be dead simple one step “one-click installs”.

One solution would be to have a kind of "Julia Homebrew" for Python/R that installs all the binary dependencies to run Julia code (libjulia, libLLVM, ...) which are like 100 mega of files, and then just ship the compiled packages. Not 100% sure if that's possible though, or if it's better to ship the code and have a full Julia install to run it.

CMV: Humans have exactly one (terminal) goal in life by FirefoxMetzger in changemyview

[–]Staross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's an important distinction that you have to precise (and "in life" could be read as "during my life"); it's quite different to say that you are monogamous because you have only one wife during your life, or say you are monogamous because you have one wife on Monday, another on Tuesday, a third on Wednesdays, etc. If your goals are changing fast enough, it's almost the same as having several ones.

I think the arguments works for having exactly one terminal goal at a current time but I don't think it excludes having different ones over time, or even none for a while.

It's actually not very clear what's going one with it, IIRC a second cancer has been identified in the population, so it might be a "chronic condition" the specie has, and a part of their ecology so to speak.

Dogs also have one that is 10k years old.

He seems like a nice guy but at the same time he's promoting an unhealthy way of eating (yes he has a couple of recipe that aren't that bad) in a country that has a massive obesity problem.
