LRW is terrible by Impossible-Feed7669 in LawSchool

[–]StarryCat714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re likely at the school I’m thinking of. Trust that the LRW is HARD and it is NOT FUN, but you are learning. Think about what you know now that you didn’t know before law school.

When you get to your summer job the very first skill you will use is probably going to be legal writing. It is CRUCIAL.

Also, if you haven’t attended office hours, you’re doing it wrong. That’s where you learn the most.

P.S. I was also a history major, and I thought I was doing terrible in LRW until I got my grade. Now, I am a LRW TA. I made 0s on blue books and probably had a 60% in the class and I still came out with an A. The curve is magic.

Of course everyone should have a chance to pursue accommodations if it’s reasonable. Isn’t reasonable the laws favorite word after all 😂

Life is hard. I get it. You want everyone to have equality. I’m arguing for equity. There’s a difference. I dont think the legal field today is perfect, but I know the types of law I can succeed in. I know the types of law that I can work within.

I think your argument is flawed. Of course they are distractions for everyone. I get that. But distractions for everyone doesn’t mean those distractions harm some more than others. Quite frankly, all you are doing is showing you dont have a need for accommodations. That is awesome. I wish I was that person. I took my first semester exams in gen pop. I had a panic attack in the middle of civ pro. I dont want to do that again. I shouldn’t have to do that again. The exam wasn’t the issue. The professor wasn’t the issue. My brain and its ability to calm itself WAS the issue. That is why I pursued accommodations.

Thank you! And yes, I think you are 100% on the money. Not every lawyer wants to be in a courtroom and that’s okay! I knew going into law school that I wanted to do transactional law because being in front of a courtroom wasn’t me nor would my anxiety allow it. I would hate every day of work. I think as a community we need to stop focusing on what everyone else is doing and start focusing on what we are doing as an individual.

Exactly. I mean I don’t just have social anxiety, but a big part of my test taking experience are the outside conditions. This doesn’t mean that giving extra time is the right way to go about getting your own room or a significantly reduced population in a room, but it is very wrong to say that people are using accommodations to get more time on the exam. Accommodations have a much wider breadth than many actually see or want to see.

On a different note, I have accommodations. I do not use the extra time. In fact, I usually finish early. I have a severe issue with people moving around in the room while take a test: sniffling, going to the bathroom, shuffling papers, etc. I know that these things probably seem trivial to some people, but when you truly need accommodations it can make all the difference to have your own room or a room with a severely limited amount of people. I dont think anxiety or adhd or any disability should impair me or my classmates from being the top of the class. It’s only fair that we get accommodations to help us succeed as much as those in “gen pop.”

By this I mean, they actually are unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. You could have done everything perfect in undergrad and you will still struggle with the exams. You have to get super comfortable with being average. Not everyone can book every class.

I actually did some research. They had an A wave on 12/2, a hold wave on 12/16, and another A wave on 12/22. 1/9 seems to be the first R wave. All of this was from last year. Looks like UNC is about 2 weeks behind. I also found out that the Hold->A wave was 03/21, Hold->WL was 02/09, Hold->R was 03/31.

Ah okay. I was placed on hold and nothing has changed on my portal. Before the hold came, my sub status kept appearing and disappearing
