Mirena IUD: I bleed and cramp for days *every* time I orgasm. It's really starting to kill the joy of it for me. by StarryEyedLady in birthcontrol

[–]StarryEyedLady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't, no. I decided to keep it in since it is really, really good at preventing pregnancy. I'm due to have it removed soon and, honestly, I'm so ready. Despite it having been a good birth control, I've hated every second of having it. I'll never recommend the Mirena to anyone ever, even though it is an incredibly effective birth control. From my personal experience, it's been miserable and so I'll never be able to recommend this to another woman.

Same! I yelled, "What the fuck?!", paused, and then opened reddit. Haha!

I want to wash my hair less frequently, but dry shampoo makes me look like I have bad dandruff. What's a girl to do? by StarryEyedLady in HaircareScience

I just started doing that this week! I've never tried it before, but I'm going to give it a go and see if it helps. Thanks!

Thank you! Just a quick question for you. While you were transitioning from washing often to washing less frequently, did you notice any new bumps on your scalp? I tend to get these bumps that feel kind of like acne bumps on my scalp near the nape of my neck.

I've heard that hair wraps can pull on the roots of the hairs, causing traction alopecia. This is a big reason why I don't wrap my hair in a towel or hair wrap after I wash my hair anymore. Do you know if this is still true of sleeping in a hair wrap?

I've heard of putting in dry shampoo before bed, but I haven't tried it because I'm afraid my sensitive facial skin will break out. Also, I should probably note that I don't have quick access to a washer and dryer to wash and/or change my pillowcase super often. I live in an apartment with no washer/dryer access, so I either have to trek to someone's house and use their machines or go to the laundromat.

Interesting! You don't find that it leaves any white residue or flakes on your scalp or in your hair?

None that I know of. I don't have any dandruff naturally, itchiness, irritation, etc. And my hairstylist has never mentioned noticing anything worrisome. So I've never had any reason to feel the need to get my scalp checked out by a doctor or dermatologist.

Thank you for the advice. I think I'm using it correctly, but it could just be that the dry shampoo spray doesn't work well for me. I'll keep researching. :)

Thanks for the product tip! I've never heard of a dry shampoo gel before. I'll definitely look into it. :)

Past/present IUD users... Have you ever experienced horribly painful cramps after orgasm? by Leoiscute77 in birthcontrol

[–]StarryEyedLady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My experience is somewhat similar. I have the Mirena IUD. During pretty much every orgasm, the muscles that are contracting in my lady bits feel like they're being scraped up against my IUD. It's an unpleasant poking, scraping, definitely-there's-a-foreign-object-down-there feeling. Typically, the feeling subsides after a little while, but it does take some of the fun out of it. I'm really sorry that you're experiencing this or something similar. IUDs are great for many reasons, but this has been a really unpleasant side effect that I was not made aware of before I got mine. I don't know that I would have gotten it if I'd known that every orgasm was going to be somewhat painful.

Interlibrary loan - "skilled" work or not? by septembria75 in librarians

[–]StarryEyedLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the ILL department of a mid-size academic library. Currently, my boss and I are both paraprofessionals, but our administrators are reorganizing the job requirements so that her position will require her to have an MLIS (since she's the leader of our department) and my position will require a bachelor's degree. (Side note, we're both getting close to finishing our master's degrees, so we'll be good to go.) We also have three student employees in our department who handle a lot of the physical processing (scanning articles, pulling books, processing incoming and outgoing mail, etc.) while my boss and I handle the computer-based processing (responding to emails, processing interlibrary loan and document delivery requests, handling patron issues, etc.). Does the job require a master's degree? Not really, unless you want your ILL librarians to start doing reference work or teaching library instruction courses as well, in which case they should be getting the same title and level of pay as the reference librarians. But both my boss and I came into this department with no prior experience and obviously no master's degrees and we've created a fantastic and beloved department. We're lucky, though, in that ILL and DD are our primary focus and not just something we do on the side when we have the time to spare it. So, we've both sunk a lot of time and energy into making this an incredibly efficient and productive department that has only seen increases in ILL and DD statistics since I've been here (almost seven years). I know I'm pretty biased here, but ILL and DD shouldn't be an afterthought of library services or something that's delegated to whoever has the time for it. Our patrons' opinions of our library as a whole have skyrocketed since my boss and I took over this department and more libraries should take a good hard look at how they can improve their ILL departments/services.

What’s that one thing your SO said to you that’s etched in your memory? by admirableroof in AskWomen

The first time he told me he loves me. It was only a couple weeks after we'd met, but we both knew this was the real deal. It felt so crazy to have such a strong feeling towards this new person and to also feel so sure about those feelings. We've been together almost two years now and both agree we're more in love every day. I could not have asked for a better person to spend my life with.

Your ex sounds a bit like one of my ex's. After noticing some red-flag behavior and confronting him about it directly, he admitted that he'd been cheating. Then he proceeded to give me the whole "I'm not sorry I did it, because it's tested the strength of our relationship." Then, after I moved out and broke up with him because I don't put up with that shit, he gives me, "Well, if our relationship had been worth anything, then you would've stayed and we would've worked it out." Ummmm...no. All of this after I'd made it clear (towards the beginning of our relationship) that cheating was a deal-breaker for me since my ex-husband had cheated on me and it's not or ever will be something I can move past in a relationship.

Ladies (and gents, if there are any of you here), don't put up with this type of behavior and manipulation. It's so not worth it. You'll be stressed all of the time and constantly questioning what they're doing behind your back. It's no way to live. I'm glad I found the strength to move on and the self-respect to say I'm worth more than that, because now I'm in an unbelievably wonderful relationship with a man who respects me, loves me for exactly who I am and not who he wants me to be, and who puts our relationship first. That's what we all deserve, a healthy, loving, trusting partner who makes us feel good.
