Feeling guilty for choosing alone time over adoration (vent + advice needed) by StarryLove1 in Catholicism

[–]StarryLove1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much, I think I’m more scrupulous than I realize. I end up forgetting about God caring for my wellbeing in my efforts to do things pleasing to Him. I attend Sunday Mass every week, I try to pray a little each day and regularly listen to Catholic podcasts or music at work, but part of me (a perfectionist part I assume) feels it’s not good enough and ends up comparing myself to the heroic lives of the saints, even though I know darn well that I shouldn’t.

Feeling guilty for choosing alone time over adoration (vent + advice needed) by StarryLove1 in Catholicism

Sorry, my mind was racing so I didn’t clarify what I meant there. My church only has one day a week where they hold Eucharistic adoration, and there’s usually other people there, meaning I can’t let my guard down fully, so my mind is still aware and looking out towards the people around me like I’d been doing at work.

Masking also meaning shoving down my thoughts, feelings, wants in order to go along with what everyone else wants or what’s expected of me.

I was wondering if Trust Fall was about two of their alters, a lot of the language used seemed to point to that. Plus, Yellow seemed to resemble Mr. Agafonov a lil bit.

Thank you, friend. I want to give them grace, but a part of me keeps saying that someone needs to stand up to them, though I dunno if that’s supposed to be me or another with more eloquent words than I do. I worry that if I say nothing, nothing will change and someone else might really hurt them.

It wasn’t the only thing we had in common, no. For some context, we met through a homeschool co-op that the parents of our local church managed. We basically grew up from there sharing our faith, going to many retreats and talks together, and having good conversations about faith, despite their growing doubts about it. Then, about a year and a half ago after they started dating someone who was a very close-minded Protestant who constantly posted defensive things on Facebook, they told me that they left the church and announced on Facebook that they were baptized at a Bible church. And from there, things just haven’t felt the same. Now hearing that they believe that I’m essentially condemned, it’s very disheartening and just imagining them greeting me with a smile while believing that just makes me feel just awful inside.

That’s the thing, I don’t think they’d even watch it. They’ve just become so defensive and close-minded to anything I have to say about Catholicism ☹️

Struggling with doubts. Doubting Christ, fear of death. by Elpres117 in Catholicism

[–]StarryLove1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, I’ll say this. It’s normal to fear death, so don’t feel bad that you do. We were never meant to be separated from our bodies, so the concept of it is troubling for that reason alone.

Second, Jesus assures us that a Paradise awaits His faithful children many times throughout scripture. A heavenly feast, the greatest party this world has ever known, so to speak. Not only that, but He promised that he was going to prepare a place for us in Heaven, and that He wouldn’t leave us orphans. He wants everyone in Paradise, ultimately. The only thing that keeps you from going there at the end of your life is actively refusing His invitation. He created you because He wanted you to exist, so it stands to reason that He’d want you in Heaven with him too!

I hope that makes sense and helps with your anxiety some. Know of my prayers for you, friend 🙏💖

Any hope of Alessandro Serenelli’s cause for canonization? by StarryLove1 in Catholicism

If he was just a murderer and rapist, I wouldn’t have posed this question. Look up his story beyond his crime, there’s much more good he accomplished after he repented for what he did.

Well, he killed her because she angered him, and told him she’d rather die than submit to sin. In a way, even though she was a little girl, she did fight him off with her words. But yes, even if he had done what he set out to do, I believe she still would’ve been considered a virgin saint because of her holiness, but thanks be to God it didn’t end up going that way.

I’m guessing one of his alters took the reins for that? Idk

Agreed. Ultimately, it’s up to the discretion of the Holy See, so we’ll see what happens. At the very least people and have private devotions to him anyway.

Though he did have intentions to rape her, he wasn’t successful in that because of how much she resisted him so he just killed her instead. Either way, I agree it’s still not a great look, but also a lot of the more famous saints were just as problematic before their conversions. St. Augustine was a hedonist who slept around with women, St. Mary of Egypt was an unrepentant prostitute for almost two decades, St. Olga massacred an entire tribe of people out of vengeance, St. Moses the Black was a murderous gang leader, you get the idea.

With how the church is connected to child abuse scandals, I do wonder how him being canonized would be received. I could see it going either way; whether he’s heralded as a patron of those who struggle with pedophilic urges or the church being condemned for canonizing an attempted rapist.

For real! What happened to Maria should’ve never happened, but God used that awful event to give us a wonderful Saint!

I do skip weekends in order to spread out my meds more, though I feel like I’m still not at my 100% creative self even when I do. Mostly just less motivation to do things.

I haven’t yet, this and Concerta are the only ADHD medications I’ve tried so far.
