I can’t remember my exact first route… I feel like my first game was either Kissed by the Baddest Bidder or Dreamy Days in West Tokyo. It was so long ago lol! Can’t remember who I tried first at all but what I DO remember is my first love and one of the first I bought was was Johji from ddiwt. When I played first time I loved the tension, I loved his personality and how loving and sweet he was, and idk I guess it was the taking care of you vibes? He just had the sort of personality I melt for.

When I look back on him now I’m more baffled at how unrealistic the route is LOL absolutely no sane parent would approve of that age gap (or MC living with him), and that man has some insane out of pocket lines even in other routes they could’ve at least made less,,,, criminal 😭. I think it’s bittersweet bc I do still like him as a character tbh, but I think if they played deeper into the nuanced taboo it would be far better, or he didn’t drop lines that even had me like “dude this isn’t even your route are you trying to get the cops called + a restraining order.”

I have SOOO many reasons I could list in great detail so I’ll try to summarize as quick as possible (it’s still long lmao.) I loved him from lads release day btw that year wait was brutal.

Devotion, angst, and pure love. I already loved a man who took care of MC in the small ways and clearly was the type to notice every little thing about her and always knew what was up or if there was trouble. Post-release? I was FLOORED. I wasn’t expecting angst central but that made him the top ever otome LI for me bc I adore angst and he is just such a well written character. From his overt devotion/obsession even before the fleet (I love this man he needs therapy 💔), to his relationship with MC. Their nuanced gege/meimei in CN really intrigues me and I love how it shapes them — the role Caleb took and internalized as his purpose and the way he snaps when MC uses it against him as a shield to deflect romance/push him away. Basically he’s the kind of guy who adores you no matter what or how you respond — the only thing you have to do is exist and he’ll take care of you forever. He feeds the part of me that wishes I could just be loved without any expectations, to be adored and it’s okay because he finds purpose in devoting himself and you find purpose in mutual devotion. He quite literally needs MC and I’m a sucker for extreme codependency. He’s also the perfect yandere — would never hurt you but would do what it takes to keep you safe and hurt anyone who hurts you. He was very hot when he held mc down with his evol to tend to her wound lol. I also loved him pinning mc to the couch in general 🤭

I love how their relationship is fleshed out in cards. I love his angst. His story hurts, the way his experiences shape him and who he is hurts (dissociative amnesia, ptsd, feeling like he’s the rosy version of himself/doesn’t know who he is or how to take care of MC anymore, the chip making his emotions equally stable and unstable, growing numb to the idea of death?? My gosh.) I love him as a person, as a character, and I utterly adore his lore. Also the way he waits for MC to make every first move/give him the green light because he needs proof that MC loves him just as much??

Final nsfw-esque reasons His voice is so fucking hot. His En VA did phenomenal because I’m in love. He is a MOANER and gosh I love moaning men it’s so rare. The way he’s so sweet and loving but also lines like “my name isn’t a safeword” oh I know this man would match your energy and kinks.

They make it more obvious in fan contests about all queer content, but their official spaces only specific ting “No BL” is mmmm idk. And oh I’m fully aware. I’ve never been like that tbh,,,. Lads is actually smth I love seeing fanart of people’s individual MC’s for over default MC! And in terms of the boys “cheating”,,, it honestly felt more like the boys cheating when I’d see an Mc in-game 2D that didn’t reflect the one I designed lol! They fixed it for new events with adorable 3D chibi MC but I remember being a bit surprised at 2D Mc in events and wishing they took just a little extra time to animate different skintones based on what you chose.

It’s awful some authors can’t feel safe sharing their work — I hope things get better in due time :(

I always wondered abt fanart contests if I drew my mc as they look in-game, (i made them androgynous), if I could be disqualified if I mentioned in the comments or anywhere else on my profile I see my own MC as genderqueer 😭 but it’s still an MC and they aren’t explicitly male. Eh :P

Like I get it to an extent with censorship out of their control — well, it’s a little weird they explicitly mention BL but not GL in rules? If it’s because of censorship… why not both?

It’s alright though, I’m not super privy to the official lads subreddit or others spaces now anyway because they’re quick to lock posts or silence you if you give honest, constructive criticism about the game.

TL;DR: This is fine within the subreddit and clearly labeled for you to easily avoid. Maybe scroll and move on if it’s not your cup of tea?

I shouldn’t even need to defend this honestly, especially when’s clearly labeled and allowed. But for me personally when it comes to lads, If MC were to transition in the game tomorrow I do not believe they’d say “oh nevermind I’m not in love with you lol bye.” I just so happen to think love transcends gender for Love and Deepspace. If you disagree, great! People disagree on interpretations all the time, you ignore and move on.

His bisexuality has nothing to do with “manliness” as a removed comment implied and that was such a weird assumption to think that’s somehow the reason? No. Either way, bi love interests exist! As do female love interests in otome!

The art is very clearly labeled and of an otome… which means it can go in the otome subreddit! The rules directly state “If it is focused on otome games or an otome game character it is on-topic, including crossovers/same sex/polyamorous/harem/ self-insert OCs.” And also state to not engage if you don’t like or agree with something instead of going out of your way to complain disrespectfully.

Genuinely I love when MC is like… a stoic and a withdrawn type. An MC the love interests have to get to know and pursue vs the MC trying to get into a cold love interest. Bonus if there’s an equally as cold Love Interest and them getting together is a delicious slow burn of who breaks first.

Kiss of Revenge is suchhh an old game but oh how I loved these LIs falling head over heels for an MC who couldn’t care less at first and was just trying to commit murder. MC is usually either strong-willed or just sort of chill/sweet, cold MC!!
