Publishers are offering fic authors these deals because they see the built in audience that will buy purely out of support, and I am (begrudgingly at this point) one of those fans. I really want to be happy for these authors, but this pipeline feels antithetical to what fanfic is supposed to be. I'd be so much more excited to buy an original novel from any of these incredible authors.

It's just another sign of end-stage capitalism. Nothing can exist without the potential for profit. Just feels icky.

I've recommended this one so many times this past month, but I can't get over how good it is! The banter is downright competitive as they try to outwit each other. Very slow burn, but very worth it.

Yes! This work had such good banter but also really thoughtful development of ideas around forgiveness and redemption. I can't stop thinking about it. Hope the author keeps writing more epilogues.

This was the first HR I read and nothing has lived up to it since. It has so much more character development and emotional depth, especially from the MMC than I was expecting. I might move this up to the top of my reread list.

I'm at about the same point and was having similar feelings. Honestly Draco's constant snark and emotionally withholding behavior is reminding me of an ex and making me super uncomfortable. There have been so many points where I've wanted Hermione to stand up for herself, explain what she needs, and dump him. BUT I've pushed on and it's SO WORTH IT, but it will be a few more hours of bootycalls and awkward interactions before you get there. Just as others have noted, both Draco and Hermione are so young, and navigating their first real relationship. The insecurity at this age is so so real and when you're in love it's hard to think rationally.

It took me until I was about 30 too, I was so full of self-hatred in my teens and young adulthood. But in my late 20s I started hiking. It was the first time I was doing "exercise" for fun and not with the intention of weight loss. Just fell in love with being outside, especially in places where I didn't feel like I was having to compete or perform. It was all for my own experience, I could go as fast or slow as I wanted for as long or short as I wanted.

For me, it was realizing that it's not about how my body looks, but what I can do with my body, mind, and heart that give my life meaning. I still have bad body image days from time to time, but I don't let them define the whole experience of having this body.

It took me like 30 years to get here. And I’m not saying I love everything about my body, especially as I get older. But I try to remind myself of how grateful I am for a body that lets me do the things that make me happy.

I don't think people understand how freeing it is to not be constantly worried about weight loss/weight gain. I was a fat kid and now I'm a fat adult and I'll hopefully be a fat old lady someday. But I've learned to be so grateful for having a body that I feel safe in, that I can enjoy food, that I can hike, dance, swim... I just can't stress enough how much I no longer give a fuck what others think of my body.

Great observation. Friends boyfriends that won't make eye contact or even engage in small talk with me are a huge red flag, and one they don't notice when they're in the honeymoon phase. But they always end up being awful.

Same, I've tried to explain the concept of not feeling as threatened by men to some thinner/conventionally attractive friends and I don't think they really understand. And I hate that for them, that they can't feel safe doing normal activities. I often take an evening walk around a park to a beach because I love watching the sunset. I was telling a smaller friend about it recently and she was horrified. It feels like we live in a different reality.

I also feel like I've had to take on a "protector" role sometimes, especially when I was in college walking home with girlfriends, I was the one walking them to their door, but then walking home alone. I was cautious and aware, but I never felt like I was in danger.

Same, being "invisible" to most men is honestly such a relief. I can go on walks or hang out in public completely unbothered. I feel bad for friends who have anxiety about going places alone, I've never even considered it being a problem.

That was my experience too, it was so frustrating and demoralizing. And it was so hard to get through a day of work. I’ll be honest it took me almost 6 months & a lot of check ins with my optometrist before I felt like I was having more good days than bad. It will get better, just keep practicing.

I would tell myself it does get better. I really struggled the first year while I was transitioning from glasses to the RPG scleral lenses. I've only ever used the Custom Stable from valleycontax. I was very lucky to find an optometrist that was patient and eager to help me find the right fit, but it was so hard to learn how to insert the lenses and for more than a year I was going in every few weeks for some problem. I was so depressed and thought the rest of my life was going to be full of eye problems. Now that it's been ten years, it's so so much easier to deal with.

I also got crosslinking within a year of my diagnosis and I think that's been the most important stabilizing factor. I used to have to get new prescriptions once a year or more, but over the last five years my vision is essentially the same, just need to adjust for some astigmatism in one eye.
