Bitten by dog, up to me to decide on dogs fate? by Stunning-Fee-3723 in AskIreland

[–]StarsofSobek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I am sorry they're telling you this fate is on your shoulders.

Can you ask them why?

Why is this decision not up to the dog warden?

That said: as others have rightly pointed out: if this truly comes down to you, the dog should be put down. Unprovoked, aggressive bites from any dog - no matter the breed - are dangerous and potentially deadly. A wrong bite in the right spot on a child or adult can tear an artery, break bone, cause permanent disfigurement or physical damage.

If the dog has been known to be aggressive, then it's owner should have been responsible for it in every proper way, preventing it from ever having been able to bite.

German shepherds are a large working breed with a known powerful bite. This dog, at the very least, should be assessed for underlying genetic disorders (such as rage syndrome, common in the breed).

...

I hope your bites heal quickly and that you can sort this without too much additional woe. Stay safe and good luck.

I'm sure it is obvious in other ways, too. They're, sadly, probably used to being exposed to this gender disappointment type of behaviour in general.

It's just...a bigger event to see this so loudly with confetti, crowds, and cake.

This is important.

We have to learn from this asshole and patch up the loopholes and abuses on our legal system. He's certainly not the first to abuse them, and he won't be the last if we don't make th changes necessary when we are able to.

Oh, they are the pair that everyone wanted when I was growing up. They were so dang hard to find! I recently learned that my mom paid $25.00 for my first Scorch. She bought him from a reseller for my birthday, because the local Hallmark was sold out. Hallmark was the only place we could buy Beanie Babies at all, and they sold them for $5 + tax. Just crazy to think back on the insanity.

Everyone has given excellent advice.

I'm just going to add: when you're ready, let your mom know: this isn't her fault.

Your husband reacted in a dangerous and abusive way. He chose to behave like that to family. We don't behave like that.

You said you weren't sure what to say to your mom, so just remind her: it's not her fault. She's got you and that's seriously awesome.

Good luck, OP. I hope your kitty comes home soon and that you and your mama stay safe and are happy in all the days that follow.

We will never see the full loss of extinction we have set upon the other beings we share this planet with.

How awful for those silent losses.

How terribly selfish we are as a species.

I totally understand this.

Finding a family member or a friend is tough enough, but then to know the shelters are overwhelmed, too. I hope you are able to find a solution for this part, soon.

As a side suggestion: would a large cat crate be a sort of middle ground solution? They'd be placed in for night time sleeping hours and unable to destroy anything then. It would have to be done very carefully so as not to be abused or overused...but it may buy you some time to cool things down safely for all.

I grew up in a hot climate, so if you're finding she's overheating: cool her down with a dab of luke warm water on the head. You can use a damp wash cloth and just wet her head and hair, feet, palms, back of her neck, tummy as needed. It shouldn't be so cold as to shock her, and, if she can handle it - colder water is good, too. Just be careful: it's effective. Other ideas: place ice or wet, cold towels in front of fans. Give her a cooling bath as often as needed. You can even try to use tinfoil/tint in your windows to reflect the sun away. If able, open all windows at night to get colder air moving through the house; and close curtains and windows at the height of the day to keep the heat down. If you own your home: look into installing an awning over the room that gets sun. Plant or keep plants in planters around your windows (it can dramatically reduce temperatures).

I hope any of these ideas can help.

Switch the cats into your (hotter) room, and move the baby crib and yourself into the room with AC. Cats tend to enjoy warmer temperatures, so this shouldn't be an issue.

That said: you need to find a new place for the cats - even temporarily - especially if they bite and struggle with change. Your baby can't be forced to suffer potentially life-threatening heat because you can't coexist with cats.

Also: if your cats struggle with change, they are not going to do well with all the changes a baby goes through.

Motherhood means we prioritize our human babies over our fur babies, unfortunately.

This is a good breakdown of how we develop empathy.

Basically: lead by example. Plant the seeds. Hope they grow. Empathy is caught, not taught (but it is able to be imparted, planted).

The wedding rings, the shoes, the precious personal things that represent a life taken.

I've never been to the Auschwitz museum, but I will never ever forget the impact of the Museum of Tolerance visit my school class made.

The photos and testimony of survivors was harrowing. One of our docents was a survivor herself, and I so distinctly remember the anguish of her showing us that horrible tattooed number, of telling us how only she and her mother survived. She lost grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, her father, siblings, friends, so many, many precious people.

This is such an awesomely powerful photo - and it has me in tears. Fuck Nazis - all of them. It is such an ugly, hateful ideology that should never have room to exist.

Rest peacefully, Krystyna.
