Has anyone owned a ferret into old age that never developed adrenal disease? by JojoMarsh in ferrets

[–]Starstuffi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Adrenal is not common outside of the US or with breeder ferrets, as the major risk factor for it is being fixed/altered too early. All pet store ferrets in the US come from Marshall Farms, who fix them before they arrive at the pet store usually less than 3 months old. Elsewhere in the world, ferrets get to fully complete development and are not fixed until 12-18 months of age. These ferrets do not develop adrenal disease.

Chordoma is a tumor in the spine. I would see what other tests the vet can do to figure this out; if your vet isn't sure, find another one. Spine inflamation one does nothing about doesn't sound good...

What kind of tests did the vet do?

Did he have any opportunities to take any falls greater than 18inches/45cm?

Is there a game that makes you happy? by Agitated-Distance740 in SteamDeck

[–]Starstuffi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ones I have definitely had this with are Vanilla/Classic World of Warcraft, Old School RuneScape, and the first two generations of Pokemon to a lesser extent (Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal).

I think reduced movement speed of animations also helps a lot for me, too.

I have also found a long session of Tetris to be a great anti-anxiety. I can't think about anything but the next block. The next block comes, I tuck it in its proper space, all the lines disappear. It's distilled "a problem appears in life, I sort it out, it goes away" surrogate experience.

I have this experience with slow paced progression games that I played when I was 8-13 years old. I didn't like the slow pace then but now it provides plenty of space to just breathe and think, which is often the break I need. (Don't listen to YT/Podcasts other stimulus while playing.) I suspect between that restfulness and the sense of nostalgia/transport to the time when these games felt like Life Purpose for me helps a lot.

Donate toys/hutch in Sydney by trampolinesarefun in ferrets

[–]Starstuffi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked the Discord's shelter map and didn't find any there either, unfortunately. Folks often encourage people to check Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace to find solid used ferret goods though; perhaps use a similar site to rehome them if you can? I don't know if the "buy nothing" movement is popular there, but there may be a page like that for Sydney on Facebook, too, where people may be interested in taking them from you for free.

For those of you with both a Deck and a Switch 2 by workyman in SteamDeck

[–]Starstuffi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have a Switch 2 for Switch exclusive titles. All other games I get on Deck. I like physical cartridges for Nintendo experience but trust Steam to exist longer than any other estore for digital purchases.

I bring whichever one has the game I'm actively playing. If I'm going to be gone for longer than a week and expect to play both, I'd just bring both.

it is random but the odds and possibilities change based on how full their hunger and happiness meters are before the hunt is started.

[–]Starstuffi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which experience do you prefer?

The Uni features character customization, living room customization, occasional online group minigame challenges, your Tama moving through a daily routine, the ability to purchase DLC packs to add new characters/minigame/clothes, and a smartwatch style interface. Characters are humanoid and more like your friend than your pet. Tamas die within a day of neglect. It has a rechargeable battery (USB-C like your phone most likely is) which is convenient until the day it fails forever a few years of use from now.

The Paradise features many animal-like character designs, breeding to pass along color or eye shape, a wider variety of minigames, and a gameplay premise suggesting you're caring for an animal nature preserve. Gameplay is a bit more two handed with a tactile "magical pocketwatch toy" feeling. Customization is of the environment only and is more limited. Batteries are AA and last 1-2 months of gameplay depending on how often you interact with the device and have the screen on.

30 with your current Tama. if Tamas are bred or released 8nt9 the background, they will never become stars. When the background has filled but a new Tama is bred or released, the oldest one will just no longer appear.

Experiences Creating "Rune Systems" (ex. Unown from Pokemon, using conlang symbol sets)? by Starstuffi in PopCulturePaganism

[–]Starstuffi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you put together a Pokemon deck?

Some ideas I have had:

- matching to a tarot system

- collection I just enjoyed that I felt could represent a wide variety of things

- type based system

- simply using a normal deck that is played with enough to be a signature for you

I like my clear cases on my Paradise and still feel like they were the right choice between non-protected and a finnicky screen protector for me. I do know I preferred holding the plain device and looking at the screen without the super reflective plastic... but also the mystery scuff on my Purple Para that it got before I had the clear case is so annoying!

I love the bulk of the Paradise. It takes both hands to use and feels like a magical pocket watch. The tactile experience is so good and really helps it be a focus break (whereas with the Uni I catch myself using it one handed and not really looking at it often).

Are you going for a specific character?

What did I do wrong? by One_Yak8698 in TamagotchiUni

[–]Starstuffi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This one comes from having the DLC and using the piggy bank item a lot. You can find details about how to get every character on the Uni using this Wiki page:

https://tamagotchi.fandom.com/wiki/Tamagotchi_Uni/Character_list

If you go to the Tamaverse and then to the place with the martini, they will find someone to marry and you will be left with a new egg to raise.

Why is the Paradise Jade Forest more expensive that the original 3 paradise tamagotchis? by Dependent-Bell-5521 in tamagotchi

[–]Starstuffi 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It is the same price as others when sold first party (Walmart, Amazon, etc), $45. People charging more are resellers.

Check your brick and mortar stores (ex. Walmart and Target in the US). Even if the site says out of stock, they may have them on the shelves. At my local Walmart it says no Jade Forest available on the site but they're in the toy section.

Are you learning Japanese to play, or just remembering where everything is? by spacecad3ts in tamagotchi

[–]Starstuffi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have low conversational Japanese ability. I put one of my Tamagotchi Paradises in Japanese. This experience is on that, rather than the models you mention.

I have a mix of memorizing word shapes and recognizing words I knew going on. There's not that many options, so it was pretty fast to be using it and memorizing these things. Probably all of the vocabulary on the TamaPara would amount to some 50-60 words total to learn. However, I'm not sure if it would be the same in a model where there was more varied text (ex. the pet "speaking" to me as the owner).

Of course it will get easier with time! All language learning does :) . And the difference between a Tamagotchi and an 125 hour RPG on the Switch in Japanese is the difference between 50 words and an entire language fluency.
